I've already tested AFR and AFR2. No real difference.
-
-
i didn't think he was using nvidia recommend, that's why i didn't say anything to him.
they do make a difference, but depends on your settings and what your benching for.
for vantage, you need to use sfr/afr or sfr or in some cases afr2. again, depends on your settings and driver. -
The cloth objects in Vantage still have the shakes when using the Dox drivers. I wonder what causes that. -
and after all that, run the whole test to see if your over clocks are any good....test 1 thru 4. just curious to see how the dox hold up under physics, since that's what the flags waving in the wind are. -
-
interesting if it we're happening during gaming...but benching...who cares...lol (well, not completely true..it slows the fps down so it's best to have no stuttering)
you don't even really run that test.
did you run your quad in dual core mode for vantage? and if so...did your score match your dual core? -
I only did the dual core test for 06 when you requested it. I never tried it in Vantage.
Right now my system is apart and I'm staring at it trying to figure ways to get it cooler. I also removed the thermal pad from the 9400 and added OCZ freeze and I once again put in the qx9300. I want to see how it performs with a 32bit system. I think I need to meditate on this. Need some inspiration...lol -
When it comes to benching i have to inspire myself or it wont happen at all . Thats why i lost interest almost immediately when i got the M17x . That and its summer outside here so that makes it harder
.
-
All my kids are napping right now so now is my window to play.
I have two old heatsinks, A broken xbox 360 and I'm trying to see if anything is possible. -
Haha well like they say it doesnt hurt to try
. Ive been creative like that at times .
The copper on the 360 HS is to thick though i can tell ya that as i have ripped open a couple. And some of them dont even have copper anymore at all.
Some heatsinks will have a thin layer of copper you can pry off on occasion. -
also, if you have a portable air conditioner...it will do wonders. dammn, wish i had my portable air conditiner when i had my 9262...
edit:
t.e.k would be the ultimate cooling solution for a laptop. it just came to me right now...lol
the problem...you would have to run the two tiny wires out one of the vents. and you would have to get the very lowest one available in power rating. then run power to it. that would drop your temps almost immediately. one side gets freezing cold while the other side gets super hot. the more watts the t.e.k uses....the colder it becomes along with getting hotter on the other side. (speculation of course) -
Where's Don when you need him? I see one possible problem and that is the cpu fan. It's on the underside of the system and sucks air into the system through a hole in the motherboard. Then that air is cut off by the magnesium cover. I'll take a pic in a sec.
Edit: The 9400M is the Northbridge unless I'm just having a big brain fart. -
rotflmao! i have central air too, but this room was getting up the the 100 degree mark, so invested in a portable.
then try running it with the cover off. just to see if the temps drop.
i thought the 9400m was your gpu? you should have 3 gpus and 1 north and south bridge..(speculation of course on the m17x) -
-
just found it.
it's all 3 in one...wow! didn't know that....
gpu/north/southbridge
-
-
that it is...you may need to expand your ideas to include the 9400m to a degree...if that is at all possible. and keeping that chip cool may stop the stuttering or at least keep it to a very bare min....

As soon as it's done processing it should be available.

the fan is pulling from the bottom and blowing out the back.across the copper..not into the case...
or
it blowing very little into the case but more so out the back.
did you pull that fan out and see if you can fit a higher cfm fan in there...it will be louder, but you will get far more air if it fits. -
Do you have a recommended fan to try? -
none at the moment...i don't know exactly what that fan looks like. if it's standard...then its possible to switch to a high performance. but to get an idea of if that will work...you only need to set the laptop on top of a house hold fan. this will blow cool air through the whole laptop. and if it helps drop the temps by a few degrees...then that may be enough to get to the next level.
-
lol...I don't have one.
-
What does single gpu for sli mode represent? Kind of a oxymoron. I've done a couple runs with that setting and no stuttering.
-
well dammn!
what about the next door neighbor, friend, buddy, pal, mate, homie, the neighborhood enemy or even the store at the corner. anyone at this point...lol
-
If I tell my wife I need to go buy a box fan to run under my computer she'll have me committed, lol.
-
i would have went and bought it. kept the receipt. test it to see if it worked. if it didn't..take it right back. in your case...put it in the trunk and wait for her to come home so you can go back out (if your home alone with the kids)
or flat out say..
"baby, im going to top my world record for over clocking my gaming laptop that i bought to game with instead of spending valueable time with you"
sure to get you hit with something un mentionable...lol. and then commited -
lol....sounds about right.
-
do you have an extra freezer?
-
I have an extra fridge w/freezer, why?
-
well... if it was the one that sat flat on the floor and you opened the lid up ward. you could just set the laptop just inside of it to cool it down to well below normal operating temps. by setting on something like a cookie or cake cooler or even your laptop cooler. let it sit there for about 10 minutes then power it on and check temps... they should be about 5 to 10 degrees lower. if so...run a test and see if your fps stay at optimal. the longer it sits the colder it will get get. but you can't just leave it there. you have to watch for condensation. and if your doing constant testing...then should should be fine.
-
I smell condensation
-
.
-
Actually it's a fridge with a freezer on the bottom and drawers conveniently pull out to set things on top of but I'm not at that point yet. Still testing Win 7 32bit.
-
not yet anyway...if you tried the central cooling...then that freezer idea aint to far behind...lol
i posted this in the stutter thread... about why the quads are failing for starters, but since it's all connected to the 9400m...hard to say the extent of the whole affair...

If i lived in Southern California on the other hand i would be tired of sunshine im sure.
-
not me...sunshine is good.. all the time for me. but remember...i work on computers for a living so i can benchmark all day if need be while working...hahaha, " lucky-mandrake-cough-me"

Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
Can the SLI 260's run crysis @ 1920 x 1200, All high, dx 9 , 0-2xaa at 25 fps+ consistently at al times?
-
Yep with ease . Especially in DX9 . Should be able to handle that in DX10 as well . Theres a couple parts of Crysis though where the engine gets taxxed to no end . the snow level and the final ship level.
-
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
From now on I will start at the snow level, to make sure I have what it takes to play the game.
-
Yeah the question should never be Can it run Crysis ? it should be can it run the Snow level in Crysis
. Since most people fire up the game and think there good but boy they couldnt be more wrong lol.
-
check out this sli enhancement patch for nvidia profiles, i got crazy awesome fps in call of duty 4, but thanks to stuttering in cod4 it was very choppy for me. try it out and see what you get
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/24638-evga-sli-enhancement-patch-v14/ -
Yeah i have been recommending those drivers and also the SLI enchancement patch and to just follow EVGAs drivers in general since they are really on top of things .
-
First benchmarks
This is with stock drivers (179.xx) and no OC

and there's a big difference in performance between them. AFR was the best one. it gave the best performance out of them all.... my external works and sometimes it doesn't otherwise i would of showed you the performance difference it gives between the 4...
i only recommend the others when your games are choppy and you can't see anything. this means afr isn't supported right and instead of disabling one card and loss alot of performance, you change the way sli/crossfire sli's/fires(lol) and it worked everytime for me. games i tested with my whitebook were grid, Lord of the Rings and some other game......
i remember they were saying the southbridge was alittle slower then the northbridge so it handled all the other parts like the hdd, usb, pci, and all the other components. and the northbridge handled the pci-e(gpu), cpu, ram, so to combine that all in one, i can see why the northbridge gets hot.
what is everyone results with the 9400m on and off. i think it would be higher with it on but because of the heat it brings it just might be to much for it. (i think i have seen it 10c hotter sometimes.)
except explosions and grenades and heavy stuff.
set everything on very high except
shaders high
shadows meduim
water meduim/high
and that should give you the best performance/graphics that you need for that game....
it looks like i have alot of work ahead of me. -
Are these normal temps? This is after running 3dmark06 3 times. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
your fine.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
just a heads up, the PCI-E freq. can be changed through NST
(but I am not sure if you can change this without changing the fsb as well)
-
Did you get any good results from it ? IE less or no stuttering ? or your just letting everyone know
.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
can you take a screen shot of the motherboard setting in nst?
i have seen the cpu, gpu, and the ram. which is good IMO. you don't need an overclocking gpu tool, setfsb, memset, it's all in one.
i would still like having the option of setfsb though.
