M17x Questions & Info Thread

Keep the faith guys...

I just got a call (June 6th, 08) from my Alienware rep (Wiley, Great guy!) and was told that the last of the M17x parts are ALL IN and the systems will enter production on Monday! (June 9, 08)

For reference the system I ordered and the parts I was assured are in:

Thats the same config as mine besides the tv tuner and RAM, my thoughts about cancelling just flew out the window

 

Well, let's hope that there isn't a massive log-jam of orders to process before yours gets built and shipped. And that the m17x doesn't suffer from any major problems! Here's hoping you get a sweet rig soon!

 

it's good to hear they gave you a call. I've had some calls before and they're very kind and respectful. All other m17x owners should probably be getting one too.

 

So we should expect m17x reviews in mid June?
I wonder how it will hold next to the Sager 9262 and the XPS 1730...

 

Is it for sure the end of june for uk buyers? hopefully thats when they will be shipped. If only... lol

 

Trouble is none from Alienware will give a direct yes or no, mind you i can't really blame the CS staff, if they say yes, they'll have a lot of customers to placate if this turns out to be wrong... if they say no (or give no real answer) they get hastle from us for not saying...

I'm not saying it's right but, at the moment all we can do is wait until Chaz get's hiw review machine.

I ntheory if the USA are shipping units, they can relase it in the Uk...can't they?

Alright then, a new week for people in North America with their m17x order status. Where is everyone standing? Has it gone into production yet? I haven't called them yet, but I' will later today for better updates.

 

i have the list of what is back ordered as well as the day they will come in the the orders are planned to begin production at earliest Friday the 13 and ship no later than the 20th

Wow, that's cool. So if they get it to you on-time, when do you expect you'll get your new baby?

The CS reps don't know a whole lot about new/upcoming products, it's like that at most companies. They aren't told about them until days or even hours before they are actually released. Not to dis Alienware CS or anything, but take what they say with regards to product releases with a grain of salt.

 

So normally the first m17x should pop up around the 20ish of June?
Still,pretty late compared to the m15x...

 

Well farewell m17x future-owners, i'm officially jumping ship and waiting on the black m15x... I hope you all the best of luck.

 

Skullcap Available Now
It seems there are also no plans for releaseing a black anything for the m15x, seems the black will be for the m17x and the silver for the m15x range...

They have also said that the Skullcap will only be released for the USA...

WTF. I just called the order status department and they told me that my m17x won't go into production for another 2 weeks . They told me that there is a huge number of orders on that system and that I have to wait. I ordered in early May and I am still waiting. They told me that it might ship early July. I don't want to calcel my order but I hate the way they keep changing their damn minds

 

yeah, as OB says, why jump ship from waiting for something you know is gonna come to waiting for something you don't know will ever come?

 

I just order my M17X. Now I am working buying 4gb of ram a secondary Hard drive. Before the laptop is sent to me.

Here the ram I am looking at. let me know if it would work.

@GRB: I jumped ship because the delays made me rethink the decision and made me realize i'm not that much of a gamer and that the m17x would be a pain as a student. At the time, i wasn't aware of the black skullcap fiasco, but thanks to OB i realize that it isn't coming soon, if at all. I'm ordering a silver skullcap m15x as soon as my Alienware Titanium Account is reset.

 

bebarhood, I can understand that you're a little p$*@%d but, think of it this way, at least they are not rushing out orders...

Waiting for ages will be annoying but, if you wait and they rush it, do it wrong or it's not assembled correctly you'll then have to send it back.... more waiting then!

Also if they are saying two weeeks that's the end of June, so it seems the dates are correct......IF they release it in time...

Keep your chin up (",) Think of the interest you'll be gaining whilst waiting lol

blueguy51, I didnt want to be the bearer of bad news for you, but, you needed to know or you'd have been waiting... and waiting.... for a long time i think. I'm sure you'll love the Skullcap in silver it looks very classy but, still different (in a good way lol)

The same exact thing happened with the M15x. Delays, delays, delays... Did that do anything for build quality? Not much...

 

I think I rather have a delay. Then a faulty system. It dont mean it will be 100% But nothing is. I like the range of 99.9% But that hard on computer systems now.

 

What I'm trying to say is... these are the same delays the M15x saw before starting to be shipped. And if it was due to quality control, then I can't even imagine what was wrong with it to start with.

 

Fact is it has to be better then my area 5550I that ran 110c and then would not go in sleep mode.

 

It could just be a supplier problem......................................................maybe? (",)

I'm going to wait until some reviews have been published and then decide if i'm getting the m17x or looking elsewhere, although i'm not sure what the alternatives as they are all ugly compared to the m17x...... Also i'm from the Uk so there aren't many Clevo/Sager suppliers left after Rock went...

Supposed to start shipping the new Clevos by middle July. Now... with these ones you will have to look underneath. More to the personality, rather than looks!

 

Kinda stuck on that I went for Store credit so I have to wait. By the time I get the laptop I should have More ram and a bigger hard drive. then the Next month a faster grapics card.

To be honest i really want the m17x as it looks great and does everything i want...

Just depends on how much longer it takes to get one...

At this rate i'll have it for Christmas ho ho ho hum...

Everyone I want you all to look back when dual core was new or when quad core was new.

1 At the time no games that use 2 cores. Now it like 10% to 14%. Still not worth to buy quad core. Waste of money.

 

True... but, you can overclock them without getting too hot...

It's mainly futureproofing but the fastest processor is still duel core so i'd probably go with that lol

But isnt it worth waiting & getting the new Centrino 2 vPro
& the Nvidia 9000 series

I guess it depends on what you want to do with your notebook. If you want gaming then Monty will not really offer much if any improvement over Santa-Rosa. The new Penryn's will be cooler though so in theory you can overclock them alittle and not risk meltdown...

The 9 series cards aren't fully released for the desktop yet and it's normally about 6 months before they produce the notebook versions... If you want a gaming machine then the 880GTX wil be hard to beat for a while at least and in theory you can swap them for the newer cards, depending on the motherboard you have i guess...

I would suggest waiting for reviews on the m17x and then seeing what you think... only a suggestion though (",)

i have just been looking at the m17x site, and any of you have noticed where it shows the link to the videos, it says that the m17x utilises quad core processors, is this true? cause i am pretty sure there were no plans for quad core in the m17x

 

As far as anyone knows at the moment, the biggest processor you can have is the duel 2.8 extreme chip, not quad core...

go have a look at the US site, notice when you look at the m17x overview, where the link is to the videos, it tells us that it utilizes the quad core processor, im not sure if its just a mistake, but im sure it says quad core

 

I looked the site over where you described, but didn't see anything about the m17x using quad cores. Did i miss it? Could you do a screen capture and post it?

 

I'm sorry but i can only find references to dual core or core 2 processors?

If you can get a capture, we can ask them if this means Monty or is a miss-print lol

Hello. I should have my new m17x sometime early next week (my guess is Monday or Tuesday). My order hit phase 9 and I did get an email confirmation. Of course, it is a baseline system, the only thing I added is the keyboard lighting and blu-ray drive. As such, I don't really plan on doing a big review, more of just pics and describing any and all flaws in the chassis (hopefully there will be none, with all the time they've taken and with complaints with the m15x).

 

And temps and 3dmark score

 

Where is everyone standing with their order? Any progress? I am still in phase 4

 

I think it's a waiting game for parts, maybe there was a high demand for certain parts?

No consolation i know but... (i'd be annoyed too, kinda impatient lol)

High end parts are still on back order? Thats madness.

Mine has supposedly shipped, but whenever I click or copy/paste the tracking number from the email into the fedex website, it gives me a message saying that the order hasn't been found. Its been 3 days now since I got the email (received the email slightly after 9 pm Friday, June 13th), can anyone give me an idea on how long it takes the tracking number to get into the fedex system? For living in Florida, its taking a lot longer to arrive then I thought it would...

 

Have you tried giving them a ring. If you order has ben given to them and it's not on the computer, it's posible that it's printed out or an email somewhere....

Well, most of it was just me being a little impatient. Since they don't ship anything on the weekends, when it hit phase 9 Friday, it just kinda stayed there. After talking through PM's with James, I'm confident I'll have my m17x sometime this week.

And yes, I will write a review and take pics
