This is takig so damn long. I just called CS and they told me that they should expect the missing parts next week and they should ship it the week after that. Are they serious? This is insane.. Anyone got another answer?

when they design a montevina lappie, i guess. unless the quadcore cpu that intel's working on uses a normal penryn socket. i figure you could put that in the m15x too, if the cooling can handle it.

So people around the country are finally getting their systems. I was reading a report and found out they changed the case? its not glosy like the m15x, it is now matte. Although the screen area may still be glossy that is going to take out some style points imo. Maybe it was just this particular case because i know the cases got back ordered. If anyone knows anymore information please reply. To my understanding the new m17x is not made with the same material as the m15x. this could be bad i know that last years model with the m9750 was made with a similar kind of material so it would ve scratch resistant and stain resistant. On all of my previous laptops that have been matte there have been issues with marks on it that are not removable from where my hand would sit when not useing a mouse. the Glossy coating was a good choice for alienware my friend has the m9750 and it is indeed scratch and stain resis. anyways leme know if anyone heard any diferent about the case bc matte is not the way to go imo.

The onlything I dont like on the M17X is you dont want to touch the edge around the screen for is a black Glassy finish and it leaves prints. But the laptop is solid.

What I'd like to know is when the m17x is going to be available off of the UK website; if I'd known that the gap between it appearing in the US and the UK would be this long, I would've had a friend ship it to me from the States instead <_< >_>

And it's going to be a rather unpleasant surprise if 8800M GTXes are the most powerful option when it's finally available. You could almost have had a baby in the time in between the first 8800M GTX being available (November 07?) and now.

so the case is solid? the case does not have a glossy finish? do u know if it is still stain/scratch resis or is the solid like it used to be 2 or 3 yeards ago when the m9750 series was that silverish black color. because that one leaves stains from hands lol. If you have any info about the case being a good case let me know bc i am not much of a mouse fan when playing simple games such as WOW. thanks i really hope the case is a goood solid scratch ressis and stain resis screen. And also i heard the quality of the cam was not as great as most 2.0 cams.

I thought that the non glossy case was a better idea. The screen surround (what there is of it) is but that matches the screen... If the chassis is matte it will fend off fingerprints better and look cooler...

I agree about the Uk issue... WHEN DO WE GET THE m17x...

Go, go, Oodle-Bear! Whereabouts do you live?

    Hmm... </stalker>

It's a little silly, but I'm holding out for the m17x because I don't like the colours on the m15x. Specifically, it having a silver case but a black screen rim.

By the screen the finger prints show. The case is solid. No sound unless someone slam it shut you will hear the moron slam it shut. shaking the desk the laptop dont move much. Moving the screen so it will shake it last 5 sec and it stops. The M17X is solid.

Sound quality. Dang it loud for a laptop.

My clevo pro star laptop is not as loud. And there no static on the M17X

I kow matte will reduce fingure prints but do u think it will stop hand stains from having ur hand rest on the free space next to the touchbad? Also will matte be scratch resis?

    ROLF.... Go, Go, Oodle-Bear

I live in Northampton, England, about an hour from London.

I'm thinking that if it was in silver it would be too much like the m15x, the mat finish is "stealthy-er" lol

To be honest, a date would be nice, or even a month, if they (Alienware) stuck to it.....

I far prefer the matt black to shiny silver. The silver looks a little... cheap. And plasticky.

In some areas the M17X you can see your finger prints. That mostly inside the laptop by the screen.

But this laptop draws air from the top and bottem and draws heat to the back. The question is what notebooke will run this way? Most systems draw airflow from the bottem into the back. And they run hot.

Let me get this right... It pulls air from underneath and blows it out of the back... Doesn't the 1730 do the same and that keeps very cool... even when overclocked?

    Interesting...

Wonder if a cooler would help with cool airflow underneath... Infinate maybe?

I actually like the design of the ripley flat black for the m17x. Feels more mature and serious reflecting the power of the machine and the maturity of the brand. But personally, I just wish mine would get here. lol

Just a question kind of off topic.. I purchased a car charger power adapter with my m17x and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them?

I usually take about 10 hour road trips. You think I will be able to game for the whole amount of that time (if i wanted to)? I'm guessing they don't charge your laptop as well as the regular charger but how long would it be till I had to turn it off? Anyone know anything about this?

I take it the gpu fans throttle up and down or do they hold the temps steady?

    Either way they sound good.

temps are pretty good... i like my temps dont go above 78C with my 8700s and havent seen over 70C with my X9000 pretty good so far :D (the AS has not even been broken in yet so itll be lower than that)

aren't you supposed to "burn in" cooling compounds with a few hours of stress testing?

it depends on the compound. for example AS5 which i think is really over rated takes 200 hours for cure time. my favorite compound OCZ Freeze which i think is just as good as AS5 takes no cure time.

yea exactly what exiled said i like AS5 and i had alot of extra AS5 because thats all i use on all my components and usually when i get a new video card or anythig i take it apart and change the compound because they usually use too much and never the right kind :p

    Oodle,
Temps and fans cycle up and down depending on what i am doing. X9000 cpu idles in the 30c's, 8800 gtx gpu's idle in the 30c's. Stress tests and some games send the cpu temps into the high 50c's, gpu's high 80c's.

    Idle in the 30s? Interesting.
My XPS idles at exactly 62C, and max temp is 75-76C when playing Crysis at 1920x1200, or 78C when OCed to 550/1500/850 .(GPU)
The CPU idles at 35-40C and maxes out at 57-58C.

well tbh idle temps are based more on your ambient temp so for example if your room is like 15C then 30C cpu is pretty good for a laptop and well the same goes for the GPU because the lower the ambient temp the lower the temp of the air going over the CPU and GPU therefore lower temps... thats why i usually keep my laptop airflow in the way of my Air conditioner works well because my AC is outputting 16C air :D it always helps the situation

EDIT: oh and yea its IMPOSSIBLE to go below ambient temp with air (or even water) cooling the only way its been done is with EXTREME cooling which is too much of a hassle

Those readings sound good, my work notebook (Dell Vostro 1000) idles at around 47 DegC, i used Notebook Hardware Control and forced the CPU to run at full al of the time for this (",)

I'm still waiting to get out of phase 4 but, when i get mine i'll check the temps lol Guess everyone does from here....just to be safe?

For some reason, they have different power consumption though.

    8800M GTX consumes 35 Watt
    9800M GT consumes 65 Watt
Quadro FX 3600M consumes 70 Watt
    9800M GTX consumes 75 Watt

wow thats pretty interesting. what the point of using the 9800 now if it lowers battery time and runs with more heat. since it is 65 watts i dont think we will see this in the m15x.

wouldnt that mke the 8800M GTX better for laptops than the 9800 GT since the battery life will be decreased and more heat will be created by the 9800 GT compared to the 8800 GTX

If I'm not mistaken, the stats regarding the 9800 GT power consumption were published with wrong specs. Initially there was a huge debate regarding 8800GTX vs 9800GT and it seemed that the former had better specs. After a while, it became clear the specs are identical.

KillerNotebooks posted a comment some time ago mentioning they are EXACTLY the same cards, just rebranded (meaning... EXACTLY the same card, chips, etc... Just a different name).

There any accurate reports of the power consumption? And if they're the same specs, other than power consumption, what's the point of getting one over the other?

i don't think those power consumptions are true. they don't make sense, in that the 9800m-gt is basically just a 8800m-gtx (as proven by benchmarks), but uses twice as much power? doesn't make sense to me.

I don't understand how people can say that the m17x has a good quality screen?

If you where to see something better, you would then say this is pretty bad quality.

If you use Notebookcheck for your sources, then don`t.
They are known to post misleading information and inaccurate.
My typo above, 8800M GTX=9800M GT. Both use 35W of power.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, na?

Hay Vato_Loco It not about the screen it about the GPU that displays images on the screen. It like this. Take Brand New LCD TV. But if you have a Crappy Cable connection (Old cable Wires)or TV antenna (Mountains or to far from towers). That Brand New LCD TV is not going to look so hot.

I think right now Alot of people getting to much info. Some people it from the wrong areas. It like The old. He seid, she seid, he seid crap and to get the Truth is from all of this? It not going to happen.

Best idea is Wait and see. Yes if the 9800gt is faster then the 8800gtx Cool. I will Buy 2 9800gt if Not I will get the 8800gtx.

nope the 9800 gt is the exact same card as the 8800m GTX and the temp situation with the 9800M GTX is not looking too good.

    @Vato_Loco

well i compared my screen to the macbook and the MBP screens (which are suppose to be some of the best) and i like mine better it looks much better and when i watch blu ray movies this is much clearer than the MBP
