On top of cancelling my order, this great dell salesman told me that the m17x is getting the new i7 cores on the 18th of Jan!!

if it doesn't have a led screen, preferably rgb then there is no reason for me to buy it. I mean I'd be happy with a core 2 with led. I could always buy the base model with 1900x1200 and add in the graphic cards and processor later but if they just dropped in i7 and did nothing else then I would be mad

Sweet, I'm happy to know they're doing something with the M17x soon. I really just see this new M11x as being absolutely pointless. It has the power of a mid-range 15" laptop. So yeah, its a slightly smaller version of what I have now. 15" laptops aren't too big to carry around, I carry mine around on a daily basis, it's not an issue. Simply thrilling. Any news on hardware besides the i7's making it in?

I want the m11x not as a replacement but more like a companion to the M17x and M15x. Something that cost around $300 or $400 dollars. game on the larger one and surf the web on the M11x at the same time

That would be a netbook, this is going to be something like a thousand dollars. I see this as being a machine trying to fill a void that didn't need filling. I don't want something that's a "sort of" gaming laptop. I'm willing to spend $400 on netbooks, and a realistic amount for a gaming laptop such as the M17x, $1000 for something that can't really play games and only has a 720p screen is a waste of the battery life. I've seen some netbooks for decent prices around, I just sold an hp mini that could do what you said, surfing the internet while gaming on another machine, for $280. I also know people who have the Asus Eee netbooks and they're a bit more durable than the hp's. So yeah, get one lol. The Atom is ready to take on Firefox.

Edit: I read elsewhere that it may be $799, but that doesn't change my point.

Core I7 M17x vs Core2Duo M17x - Battery life is probably going to be better with a core2duo wouldn't you say?

This might be the only bragging rights that A00 M17x Users will be able to have over A01 ;)

i'm alergic to lappy that have no dedicated gpu so it sorta fills the gap for me

i7 batterie life will depend on how the igp for the i7 wil work so as far as we know i7 might even have better batterie life

As far as battery life with i7's, you can keep the clock at 900Mhz per core. Not sure how low the c2q's go.

QFT! Nvidia is behind badly this time around. ATI is going to sell mobile DX11's by the zillions. DDR5 on mobiles finally becomes a reality.

USB 3 is vastly underestimated by many notebook fans. The only thing I'd add to the above would be a 32nm I7 mobile. Looking at the dual core's that just came out, I'd bet a 32nm I7 quad extreme could hit 2.53 as a base clock.

    2010 Could be a nice year :)

So we all know that the next M17x will feature beautiful LED display or maybe even better RBG LED display. But anyone has any idea if it will be 16:9 or 16:10?

If it's 16:9 then basically the next M17x will look different from the current one right?

And by the way which screen ratio do you guys prefer? For gaming in particular because I believe every movie nowadays fits better on 16:9 and graphic job has nothing to do with screen ratio right?

I just talked to a Dell rep on chat and he said the i7 refresh would be out in 1-2weeks.

Now, whether that's true or he was just making up rubbish to keep me quiet is another story :p

It really shouldn't take longer than a few more weeks because they announced the refresh on their blog. Why announce something that's not ready?

With the Asus G73j sporting a 5870 do you guys think a refresh will include those cards? I do not know when the asus comes out so they might refresh with the same cards in the current line up. I want to get a 5000 series for my M15x I'm thinking its going to be outragously expensive though.

I just read a report saying AMD has already shipped out "many thousands" of mobility 5800 and 5700 cards. It would be a shame if some manufacturers start selling budget gaming laptops with 5700s before we even get a shot at owning one. 5870 has 700 stream processors vs. 128 in the 280m, seems like a pretty big gap.

You have to divide the SP's in the ATI cards by 5 to equal nvidias.

    So 800/5 = 160

    And the 5870 has 800 SP's, not 700.

That's pretty optimistic. I don't think we'll see 5870 this month though I'd love to be wrong and be able to order them in x-fire. BTW do you have any contact info. for escalating an issue? I've tried unsuccessfully now for 4 days to get return labels from Dell.

Hey guys, this is my first ever post :)

I was on the phone to a dell sales rep (I'm from the UK) and the guy told me that the i7 processor for the m17x should be available in about 2-3 days!

First of all I called him and I said that I want to buy the m17x laptop, however I will only buy it if the i7 processor is available for it. He put me on hold for about 2 mins and said that the processor is available for the m17x, but it isn't showing up on the website due to some technical fault. After that he said he'll call me back in 30 mins with some more info.

He then called me back and told me that the i7 processor isn't available, but it is available on the m15x. However Marketing confrirmed that the i7 processor will be available for the m17x in 2-3 days with new graphics cards and everything!

He also told me that the price of the m17x is going to be raised by quite a bit, with these new options.

I hope this is true as I cannot wait! I've been waiting to buy the m17x for a long time now :).

And is anyone able to confirm what I've just said?

Also, on the UK website, there is a new, 1gb 280m nvidia DDR3 video card available instead of the 2gb one. Is this an upgrade with direct x 10.1 or a downgrade by 1gb? As I'm a bit confused!

    Thanks! :)

1GB GTX280m is a single card, the 2GB option is actually SLI (2x1GB....1GB usable in reality). Still if there'll be new GPUs soon Im interested to see the options!
