Yeah... I called Dell and cancelled my order for now. Once I hear the announcements out of CeBit, I'll decide whether to re-order the R2 or wait to get the model that includes the 5870s.
Back to waiting lol...

Where are u 5870!

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i will like to see a total body redesign m17x with the 5870's and a new cooling system not to loud but i guess i am dreaming
-
Be careful what you ask for, a redesign could be a plastic G73 clone with a big butt! All the M17x needs is thicker copper pipes for the CPU cooler because that's where the majority of the noise comes from (CPU fan ramping up).

Name one plastic notebook that is high quality? I can't think of anything. Lenovo is okay but even that isn't Alienware/Precision quality. They don't use ultra high quality plastics for notebooks. There is a reason why everyone loves Apple macbook pro build qualty--because it's a uniform aluminum design. -

-
any word on the 5870s new info or anything?
-
I think last word anyone got was they should be out March 1st ~ 2nd week; supposed to be announced during CEbit in Germany (March 2 - 6)
-
Yeah it's coming alright. Let's just hope there will not be anything wrong with the 5870 crossfire.
-
Waits patiently until release of 5870's...
-
bet the first batch of m17x with 5870s will have edd of at least a month due to all you campers
-
Wondering if there is no 5870 story during the CEBIT or say till the mid of March. How many of u guys will place the order for current R2 like me straight away.
-
i'm waiting till the 5870's get here. Been waiting for months, what's a month more?
-
by the way, ceshimm, just looking at your sig, 640gb @7200rpms dont really exist now i believe, so hm, better stick with the 500gb@7200rpms, or they will probably give you the 640gb@5400rpms and charge you extra.
-
-
640@7200rpm on the dell/alienware website right? because in u.s. there is the same option, but there is no 640gb hd thats on the market now(that i could find after a long search). maybe it is on the market in australia but there is only a 640gb hd @5400rpm though. So i'm not sure too sure about it.
-
one more thing have to point out is when US is lack of Blue Ray, we have it in AU all the time. -
-
.
what happens here is we only have 640G 7200r in raid 0, 1T 7200r in raid0 and 500G 7200r in raid 1. that's why i said i do not care cos i do not have other choice. -
indeed, i'm sorry if i made you feel defensive about it or if i attacked AU buyers in anyway. I'm just making sure you know what you are getting, that's all, because if you end up getting a 640gb @5400rpm,then you probably paid more than you had to and the hassle with getting that dealt with is probably not something you'd want to go through. And I agree with you, that there are variables in product demands such as the bluraydrives and such.maybe there is really a 640gb@7200rpm in AU, but just make sure you know what you are getting. ^^
edit: are you saying you are getting 640gb raid0 as in 320gb x2? or do you mean 640gbx2 which is 1.2TB
because if you are saying its 320gb x2 then you are definitely safe and correct. -
-
hahah, alright, my mistake. -.- on a brighter note, if people are waiting for the 5870s, they might not be available to order till the end of march or so, that is if its even available then, and you probably won't get it till end of May or beginning of June considering all the production delays they are already experiencing. -.-
-
-
-
Shouldn't be too hard and probably would be faster than waiting for Dell?.
-
Any updates on this? I just sold the R1 and was hoping to get a R2 til I caught this topic. Should I go ahead and just order first, then if and when the 5870's do come out, upgrade to it?
-
People were expecting some kind of anouncement at CeBIT but so far nothing. CeBIT ends on the 6th of March but I doubt the 5870 will be anounced.
If I compare the 5870 release dates with the 4870 release, it took almost a year from the time ATI released the 4870 card for AW to offer it. Even thoguh there were tons of rumors online that AW will release 4870 around CeBIT 2009, it didn't happen untill the Fall. If AW follows the same trend, they will not release the 5870 until sometime in the early Fall. I hope I'm wrong though. -
I'll be purchasing 5870s next week (provided they have the xfire connector).

Sry if this is a nooby question, so you can actually fix the cards into the laptop yourself hence neglecting the wait for dell to release it?
-
T3Vince,
Yes, that's what this thread is talking about, buying 5870m from Rjtech.com when it comes out, although most (myself included) are waiting to hear from our local guru like 5050joker to test it out if it is compatible with our machines (M15x and M17x), so bypassing DELL to upgrade it ourselves. Of course there's risks involved like DELL warranty would not be able to cover the damage to anything in the laptop if occurred from replacing the third party GPU yourself.
I got fat bundle of cash saved up for 5870m all ready once the word reaches down to us that it fits and works. I want it so bad, because iw ant my machine to be able to run SC2 PERFECT -
T3Vince, that all depends on if the BIOS supports it. If it doesn't support it then it does no good. Also, if they don't have a x-fire connection, then again it's pretty useless
-
I see, so the 5870 crossfires have not really come out for laptops yet I presume?
-
looks like no 5870s for AW.
-
Yep that is correct. It will probably around the end of the summer before AW releases the 5870's.
-
can not wait that longer. i'll go with 4870s next week.one more question, did DELL made any kind of annousment when they release 4870 last time or just quietly pup up on thd weasite
-
-
-
-
ok what i am thinking is they toke one year at least they offer 280sli which can be called high end in the market at that time. while for now if they stick with 4870 so long, they r geting far away of most powerful gaming lap, and lost custmers. newly dx11 games r coming¡ however i think i might go with 4870 because no more choice
-
GT 200 in june, that's what I want..drool.

I might be proven wrong with my 5870 theory. Here's this:

I sure hope The_Moo is correct.
