Somebody said watercooling ? I would love to do it to my 18x-r2 or AW 18. I got parts in place , but have not gotten the time to really dig into it. Right now, I'm working on getting my laptop cooler modded with 120mm fans.

Hi Mr.Fox, hope you can help me.
I have a medion x7827 laptop with the 780m in it. Same laptop as MSI GT70-2oD. I flashed slv7 vbios and another custom vbios based on my original stock one but with overclock/voltage increase. Problem is the 780m throttles in both vbios versions (i think). Modded vbios value is 850mhz but it downclocks to 705mhz (current clock - nvidia inspector) while playing the witcher 3.
I tried to install your modded drivers and edited the NVMLI.inf and changed the subsys numbers for my videocard. All goes well and it installs without problems on windows 10 64bit. Problem is when i try to change the global settings in my nvidia control panel (change adaptive to prefer maximum performance), the witcher 3 starts 1 sec with black screen and goes away. If i change the setting back to adaptive the witcher 3 just start normally. I also cant play the game because everything lags crazy, terrible slow. Maybe 4 FPS, unplayable. I added the witcher 3 profile to nvidia inspector but that doesnt help
Do you have any solution or ideas for this because i want to use your drivers.Last edited: Apr 18, 2016 -
Hey buddy. I have Witcher 3 and this old driver doesn't work well with it even using an imported profile specifically for Witcher 3. If you have not already done so, turn off all GameWorks cancer features and that may help. I never could get it to work right. As far as I am concerned, the performance is worse than Arkham Knight. Disabling NVIDIA CrapWorks helped me more than anything else. It's not because 780M is not strong enough as much as NVIDIA's cancer drivers cause it to perform far below what it is capable of doing with drivers that are not screwed up.
-
Say on this thread since it is an old driver mod. Do you have any of the newer drivers that have this mod as well? I would like to have oculus work but this driver is too outdated for some reason. Thanks in advance

Back again with my old stupid problem. My GTX 880m throttles like hell on Alienware M18x R2. It just jumps to P5 state randomly while loaded. I tried everything. Custom vBIOS from techinferno forums gave me bsods, any modified drivers including those by Mr. Fox didn't really help, although the problem disappeared for a time after driver change but now its back and driving me insane. I tried force p state for the cards but it just does not work for me for some reason -forcepstate command for the nvidia inspector does absolutely nothing. Tried creating a clean powermizer profile and then force p state with the same result. Maybe anyone has any clues on what else should I do?
P.S. sorry for my poor english I'm just REALLY frustrated right now, damn throttle issue seems to guess my every move and counter it. Oh and by the way its not just some small throttling. Oh no it drops to the floor as low as 300MHz on both cards.Last edited: May 12, 2016 -
Try switching over to integrated graphics, let it run for a few minutes, then switch back to discrete graphics and see if it stops it throttling.
-
Tried this just now, nothing happened it switched to P5 state rigt away. It looks like that in afterburner.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
Bummer. That's how 880M used to always look. NVIDIA must have discovered 880M was finally working better and did something special to cripple it again. If you are trying to use newer drivers that may be contributing to the problem. My 780M GPUs use to do that on any drivers newer than 345.20 and nothing I could do would improve it except use old drivers released from the beginning of last year or older. Maybe try the vBIOS that @GodlikeRU is using and see if that helps.
-
Right now I'm using your modified 345.20 drivers, by the way isn't @GodlikeRU using the same modified vBIOS from techinferno forums?
-
No, he is using a different one. He has it posted for download.
-
I will try it right away but I think I actually use the same vBIOS right now. Should I still flash it if nvflash shows me the same version?
-
Yes, I would. @GodlikeRU is not using the Tech|Inferno 880M vBIOS, and he is one of the few 880M SLI owners that is happy with it. He is running 780M clocks and voltage on 880M also if memory serves me correctly.

880M will test your patience for sure. I have abused the hell out mine. I thought if I could kill it I would upgrade. I just won't die.
Is this problem specific to SLI users? -
Running drivers 362.00 in my SLI 880m's and not having problems at all

Hello,
I am using last stock vBIOS on 880M that came on my card with 353.06 drivers. I've modified it to have 780M clocks, didn't touch voltage. I prefer longer lifespan of my cards as im not rich person anymore. I posted both versions, 780M clock and full stock.
RegardsShadowbrocker likes this. -
Just flashed both cards wit vBIOS from @GodlikeRU. Still throttles like hell. It drops voltage, switches to P5 state and lowers the clocks like nothing changed.
-
That only assures me that it's not a vBIOS issue. Cards were fixed in production process or it's thermal pads placement issue (check my signature) as some owners did not got throttle as well.
Can you post ASIC quality? (GPU-z) -
What do you mean by thermal pads placement issue? During this test cards don't overheat. Besides, they were performing well for some time even under heavy load.
-
There is a component on the image that my AMD heatsink wouldn't cover so I made cover from RAM heatsink. Don't know if this should be covered. It is in my laptop and they don't throttle. Last possibility is that cards were fixed in production after getting mass reports of throttles.
-
Ah, almost forgot. Check this - http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...possible-throttling-fix.791358/#post-10253180
I did exactly same while installing 880M SLI.
Sry for double post but I wanted to bump. -
I don't think its a heat issue, it would have been the same for the old drivers, however they only throttle with anything never than 327.23.
-
In addition to link posted above you can also try to force Pstate with nvinspector.
-
So, to do this I will have to flash my notebook BIOS with this unlocked verion. Is that right? I don't reallly have any experience in flashin anything other than vBIOS.
-
No, no mate. Don't flash anything. Im talking about this.
P-state force - http://windowedup.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-to-force-specific-p-state-using.html -
Tried that already, no effect at all. Nothing happens whet I execute .bat file for nvinspector. I will try this BIOS thing right away.
-
Hmm maybe you're right about flashing. I don't remember if there was IGFX/PEG setting in stock bios. If not you need to flash unlocked M18xR1 BIOS from Techinferno forum. It's easy. Just use provided exe file. Wish you luck
Im going to bed. See you tomorrow!Shadowbrocker likes this. -
That's the point there is no IGFX/PEG settings in my BIOS
Thanks and good night!
UPD. I can't really download files from techinferno and I don't even remember how I managed to get my hands on their version of modified vBIOS, so there is nothing I can do for now. Guess its time for me to sleep as well.Last edited: May 12, 2016 -
Got my hands on ulocked BIOS version thanks to @GodlikeRU. Will flash it tomorrow and tell you the results.
-
Update. I flashed my BIOS with the modfified version trying to load to windows gave me bsod so I reinstalled it. And so far I haven't seen any throttling at all. I'm using 345.20 modified drivers provided by @Mr. Fox and everything seems to be fine. No crazy switching to P5 state at all. It may be a temporary thing so I will continue to monitor GPUs behavior. By the way @Mr. Fox with your driver both cards are constantly in P0 state is it intended or did I mess up power management settings by switching it from adaptive to max perfomance and back?
Mr. Fox likes this. -
Glad things are under control again. The cards running in 3D performance (P0) is not cause by the drivers. It can be many things, including something as simple as having the web browser open. If you have Chrome or Firefox with hardware acceleration enabled, changing that to disabled may allow the GPUs to clock down. Antivirus software or Windows Update running in the background can also cause it.
-
Oh, thanks for the explanation right now I have both Chrome and Windows Update. One more question though do you have any plans on modifying any newer versions of nVidia drivers?
Last edited: May 14, 2016 -
No, not at this time. I no longer own any Alienware systems to test them with.

I have 353.06. You can safely install them. They have Kepler fix for Witcher 3. Just mod inf file.
As for the latest drivers I just ask for SLI profiles upload because they're dangerous.Shadowbrocker likes this. -
@GodlikeRU could you please tell me how exactly should I modifi .inf file for the newer drivers to install them? I did it before and everything worked fine untill 361.43 but then nVidia changed .inf file structure and I had a great number of errors during the installation. By the way how do you import SLI profiles from the newest drivers? It never worked out for me. And what is the Kepler fix for Witcher 3?
-
Hey.
I don't know anything about changing INF structure so I can't help you with that. I was changing INF in normal format but if they changed something then I can't do anything.
To import profiles use nvinspector. Go to settings. Click import and select profile that someone uploaded (you can request on forum). I am using imported Metal Gear Solid V profile and it works.
Kepler fix for Witcher 3 - This is driver hotfix for Kepler cards 680M/780M/880M that increases performance in Witcher 3. This was probably limited by Nvidia to show that Maxwell is much better but after rage on their forum they released a fix.Mr. Fox, Papusan and Shadowbrocker like this. -
And to nobody's great surprise I'm back again as my cards just throttled the crap outta me. Just like that, previous solution holded for 1 day, even less than that. That's it my next PC will have radeon GPUs. Can anyone provide me with a Witcher 3 SLI profile so I can try it with 327.23 drivers? It probably won't do me any good but still there is nothing else I can think of.

Hello,
Here is the profile. Even if you do these steps with IGFX/PEG they still throttle?

Yeah, I did it and nothing changed. SLI porfile does not seem to work with drivers that old - I can see both cards are loaded but FPS is still around 20. Guess I'll just have to buy a completely new desktop PC to play witcher 3. Ow well back to play old games
thanks everyone for the assistance, I guess my cards are just not supposed to work properly on M18xR2 and there is nothing I can do.
-
Did u tried modified vBIOS for 880M?
-
Yeah, it gave me random bsods while cards were loaded, could not even say if there was any throttling.
-
Update. Flashed my cards with modified vBIOS again. No bsods this time, but I have almost instant driver crash when I lunch 3DMark test. Can't even complete the 1 test to verify if it throttles. The crash though is always the same. The card switches to P1 state, drops down voltage from 1.000V to 0.868V abd lowers the clocks.

Can someone upload Need for Speed (2015) SLI profile?
I will be grateful
