Oh boy. I updated to 347.25 to test with the Gsync hack thing. Not only do I not have Gsync though, but I lost the on-the-fly SLI and in addition to this, power and temp targets have been locked in nVidia Inspector. I think I might as well stick on 344.75 the rest of my life.

If we are to trust this reddit poster claiming to be from PCPer.. They are somewhat calling this mod bogus

    http://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/2tv4s9/nvidia_gsync_hack/

Have you tried on an external monitor?

    UPDATE:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1538208/nvidia-g-sync-free-on-dp-1-2-monitors

    It's actually Malventano from PCPer..

So far only 1 other guy has claimed to have it functioning. He has a 980m as does the original modder.
D 2 Ultima.. You and another guy with a 980m have both tried without success.. But both of you had 120hz panels.
Could someone at home with a 60hz panel and a 980m try and put this to rest?

Same issue as the 880M... the card controls its voltage and core... overclocking doesn't do much in most apps

After testing? Same **** as the 880M

Started at MSAA 8x, moved to TXAA 4x and where it pretty much stabilizes is at temporal SMAA. Let me try some other games. Keep in mind the voltage needed to achieve 1300MHz is high... almost 2v... yet one card hit 88 and the other 82... try feeding that voltage to an 880M without CLU!

Nvidia obviously doesn't want us overclocking these because they set the power limit too low

1 - Change your bloody signature Ethrem it still says two 880Ms get that filth outta here
2 - Have you forced "prefer maximum performance" via NCP for the games by chance? It should at LEAST hold stock clocks (if not your OC) when doing this.
3 - I assume you're already using the modded vBIOS, since you said you were able to hit 1300MHz (and stock caps out before that I think).

Alright, here I am .. again. Finally had time to play with your mod for a second time. Tried to uninstall the intel video driver without much success. Well yes, both drivers are out but then after reinstalling your driver mod, I'm still having the same error.

Tried to dig a little more but it's way over my head. Looks like it really is installing the nv_dispi.inf file as I can find log about it :

That Code 12 error I am having must be about a line added in the nv_dispi.inf instead of my nvlti.inf. Here are some more information found in the Properties tab :

    {Conflicting Address Range}
The specified address range conflicts with the address space.
    C0000018

    Inf name is oem2.inf
Inf section is said to be 154

    Install error
There are no compatible drivers for this device.
    E0000228

I'll be going back to the default 344.75 driver :vbfrown:. Still working great even though I was feeling for a performance boost (claimed by a couple of people here!)

    Thanks!

Official clocks run fine. Even on firestrike UHD

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5715742?

I have RTSS and monitor closely. nVidia broke the drivers, purposely or not, that they run stock boost 100% of the time. Overclock them and they pull 880M

That doesn't look like the modded vBIOS though... have you tried that? It should hold 1127MHz constantly with those. I believe OCing on those works (with 344.75 at least) and holds, but I don't doubt that stock vBIOS acts like 880Ms >_>.

Also, glad to see you removed the filth from your signature XD

You think im dumb? I was one of the first with the modded vbios. I'm one of the reasons you have it. It took 7 trials before the 3 series worked.

It has its normal 1126 boost 100% of the time including benchmarks. When I do 1293 it drops as low as 800. Its a driver issue.

And I run two power supplies so don't pull that card. 660W is more than enough for these cards.

On my machine I had to go back to the official driver because this one broke HDMI audio.

I asked because your GPU-Z screenies showed 1038MHz for the card, and I thought the default clock was 1127MHz with the vBIOS. But yeah, I won't doubt it's a driver issue at all. Can't OC with 347.xx and 344.75 is problematic. Have you tried desktop-modding 344.91? Or is it 344.81? It's one of the two; TBoneSan said it was great for these cards, but he did say OCing was not really guaranteed with them. *sigh* why can't we just get working hardware anymore?

I am using 345.09 with the 980M SLI and it seems OK. It does not fix the issues Alienware has with the clock speeds dropping under load, but it is overclockable and does not throttle as much as some of the others.

    Ran these today...

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9360954

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5724449

Not as good as 980M SLI should do, but not horrible scores. The throttling sucks. I have to run everything except the Physics and Combined tests with the CPU at 3.1GHz to keep the GPUs from dropping to 135MHz on core, then kick it to 4.6GHz using a ThrottleStop profile for the last two tests.

HI, I have a GTX 970m, any chance of some custom drivers for that being available? This card can do so much more than the mere 135+ limit on core...

Hey Mr. Fox! I've had this mod installed for a long time now and it works nearly flawlessly. The only issue I was having is that it doesn't detect anything connected to the HDMI or the mini DisplayPort. Is this a known issue? Or is there a setting I need to look into? I already tried everything in the NVdia control panel and nothing worked. Thanks for your help :)

Hey buddy, glad it has been working well for you. On the HDMI and mini-DP, I have no idea. I don't use external displays and have never tested it. Since it is a desktop driver, it might be missing something. If you use the hotkeys to switch to HDMI and DP, do those still not work?

Hey Mr Fox! I've been using this mod for a long time now and it works flawlessly! I had one concern though. I can't get the HDMI or mini DisplayPort to work when in discrete graphics mode on my m18x r2. Is this normal or do I need to change a setting? I've already tried everything on the NVidia control panel and nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help :)

No the only time they work is when I'm using the integrated graphics only. I think the driver is the issue but I am not for sure. I also tried installing the driver from the nvidia website but it keeps saying I don't have the hardware installed

Is there maybe a laptop mod similar to the desktop mod you used? I really love the fact the graphics cards work so well for this laptop even if they are meant to be for desktop but the fact it doesn't work with the display ports really messes this up for me because it means I can only play the simplest of oculus rift games

Try another set of drivers and see if that works. I use 334.91.

I probably will. I really really enjoyed the mod Mr. Fox did for the 344.75 desktop driver but I need the HDMI to work for the Oculus rift. The problem is no driver that I download from the NVidia website recognizes my graphics cards. I've tried every single one and I figure only mods will work at this point. I can't seem to figure out why it won't detect them. They always appear as "basic graphs adapter" on my Windows 8 drive and something of the sort on my Windows 7 raid. I can't figure out why it won't recognize them on either that way bit I'm guessing the woke basic thing has something to do with it. Thanks for the tip though :)

It does not recognize your system because 880M was never available in the M18xR2 as a factory configuration option. The NVIDIA drivers can only be installed with an INF mod because the standard NVIDIA INF does not contain your hardware ID. My driver mod worked for you because it is a mod.

You will need to learn how to do you own INF tweaking because it will always be necessary with an "unsupported" system configuration.

See this information: [Quick Tips] GPU Driver INF Modding for 'Aftermarket Upgrades'

I tried using 344.91 like you are but for some reason when I go to connect other displays the only thing that works is the VGA port. Or at least it is the only thing detected. I know for a fact now this is only a driver issue or I don't have it configured correctly. Can you tell me how you set yours up? I tried doing the rigorous display detection and it wont detect anything. Maybe you can help me with it? :)
I really appreciate your help :)

No that is the thing. I have an r2 as well so I know its possible. Either the driver is bad or there is a setting I am missing. I just installed the 344.91 driver last night and it does the same thing as the 344.75 and the 347.25 drivers. It only detects the VGA and the laptop display. I tried switching to Compatibility mode on the setting of the control panel and still nothing. I tried the screen resolution option under the right click and even the control panel (still the same thing just different ways of getting it). I have all the drivers updated thanks to iobit driver booster and its even the paid version. I don't know what is wrong and it is driving me nuts lol

@Mr. Fox , bit off topic but what are your settings for XTU for 4.3GHz and 4,5GHz? Was just wondering as I'm trying to get an idea of how much voltage is needed to get 4.4GHz++.. I'm barely able to do 4.3GHz but I think I'm doing something wrong..

You can just google. HWBot Mr Fox and take your pick from different benches he's done from 4.3 to crazy 5.0Ghz.. I found one here without too much sifting for 4.8Ghz ..

Then you just click XTU settings where I've market here.
Remember though...no 2 CPU's are the same..silicon lottery and all.

Yup.. I'm getting a bit of power throttling due to the damm limit in the BIOS for the R4.. I need to learn how to use throttlestop to get past this by a bit.. Next step in the Ocing process :D

Unless something has changed, the Extreme CPU has a TDP limit in the M17xR4 that the M18xR2 does not, and it is going to throttle a little bit no matter what you do. Brother j95 can tell you all about that deal. But, my setting may help... definitely worth a shot. ThrottleStop may also help. Delete the ThrottleStop.ini file, set and test your overclock with XTU, then launch ThrottleStop and it will "adopt" your XTU-applied settings. Create a Windows Task to run ThrottleStop at logon and it will apply those settings automatically.

I've attached my 24/7 "Daily Driver" XTU overclock profile for you. 43x4.

A bit off topic but going to my older posts on this thread.... I FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!! :) :) :) :) If you ever have the same issue as I did, uninstall all of the NVidia drivers and connect your display. Once it is connected (your display will be connected but wont be detected because you are missing the display drivers) reinstall your NVidia display drivers and it should fix the problem! :) I hope this helps anyone who may be having the same issues :)
