Nebula red for me, free in the uk, I wouldn't pay extra for it however! As for the lighting, it's black on the inside so the colour doesn't matter.
-
I don't see why AW can't offer red for free in the states also. But then again people from the UK and EU I think have to pay higher base prices, if I'm not mistaken?

I7 720qm / Win 7hp / 4gb ddr3 1333 / 1920x1200 beyond hd / 1tb HDD (x2 500gb raid 0) / x2 5870's / blu ray combo / bluetooth 370 module / intel 6300 lan / 1yr waranty / Nebula Red
Comes to £2200 or roughly $3200
How much for that in the US? (out of interest) -
If you meant Blu-Ray burner by "combo drive" then it would be $3,074.00 subtotal. (Less if you only meant reader) You meant 1 year basic warranty, right?
Not sure what you meant by the bluetooth module since there's bluetooth stuff included but no options to get different ones.
EDIT: That is with just the regular colors, not Nebula Red. -

where can i find pictures of drakes silver and black M17x?
-
I was contemplating silver vs black. Silver looked it would pick up much less finger prints than the black, but in the end, I figured the silver would stand out too much compared to the black, so I went with the safer route. To be honest, the Red is nice, but 100 bucks extra is not worth it. Might as well put that towards the specs. I dont think that even if it was free, many people would choose red over black.

I did get a bit off by haggling but am well pleased now as importing would have worked out alot more expensive than buying from the UK (for me anyhow)
Cant wait for "the beast" to arrive now!! -
-
Black all the way. Alien FX looks best that way.
And it goes with the rest of my tech. -

thx man. geuss the red/black wasnt really your thing.
-
Merk - you hit that out of the park. That is the EXACT blue I had in mind. I kid you not, exact.
I think it's a pipe dream that Dell would bring it, but it looks tons better than the red, imhoI'd buy THAT blue in a heartbeat.
-
I think, after much consideration, I'm going to go with black. When dishing out $3000 I prefer to take the safe route, as opposed to choosing Nebula Red, not really liking it, then buying a seperate black chassis.
If only the red was more of a deep, blood red. If I did go with Nebula Red I'd probably spray it once over with a dark red, protective coating. -
Fun fact in Dell HK:
Nebula Red on M17x doesn't cost extra money, but you need to pay extra $200 Hong Kong Dollar if you want silver colour for M15x... -
I chose cosmic black cause it's a timeless color. Not in a million years will the color look "old."
-
Slideshow featuring Nova Blue and Plasma Green. Good colors in my opinion.

I would buy blue. -

One of the reasons i chose the Nebula red was that ive had silver laptops in the past, they never really seem to inspire from an aesthetic point of view....black being black is, well of course, black and didnt offer me much inspiration.
Change is as good as a rest huh? -
I got red in the end. Looks hawt.
-
I might actually go for the black for a less flashy more professional look so that I can turn off the lights when I need to not be so flashy.
Silver looks really cool, but unlike the lights it doesn't seem like I'd be able to turn it off. xD -

Trust me, the Black isn't all that great. I really regret not getting it in Silver. It's an Alienware, it's supposed to look somewhat flashy and unique, the Black is not unfortunately, and it's a fingerprint magnet.
-
From all of the media I've seen the Silver (Lunar Shadow) is the one for me. The Red looks nice and all, but I would prefer a slightly deeper hue.
-
The silver has a metallic finish you cannot see in most pics.
-
-
Having put my first nick through to the metal underneath on my Lunar Silver M17x, I am grateful that is silver... so besides hiding fingerprints, it hides minor scratches well too. As Mandrake said, there is a slight texturing to the finish that looks sweet in person.
I could have shot myself for nicking it too -
I love the soft touch stealth black m11xr2 that I just ordered. But I would've put up with the scratches and picked up Nebula Red in a heartbeat if they had it available as a color for the m11x.

Secondly, it looks professional, no doubt about it. I'd almost wager that the black is less professional because people will wonder what this monolithic laptop is when they see it, whereas the silver more easily denotes "laptop tool". Don't even think about red -
-
Since I'm so very much on the fence about color, I have to say I appreciate the many sided opinions on the colors folks have chosen.
Does anyone find their color preference varies with the day/mood?
ps: That nova blue would be a serious hit if the aluminum shell could actually take an anodizing that would get it that color. Paint wouldn't really do the job well. But anodized that color would sell very, very well I think. -

Ive seen some nice paintwork on a few cars which is pearlescent and changes colour depending on the angle that its viewed from....looks absolutley amazing....that would look cool on a laptop
-
Greatly prefer anodizing to paint.

Just another thought - i know alot of you prefer black for the "professional" look (less in ya face so to speak) which i do agree with....im not a flashy kinda guy but lets face it, the m17x whichever colour you go for, looks sleek stylish and professional....even in red lol.
Ive got mine sat here right now (just delivered) in its ickle black carboard box just begging me to open it (which i will do a it later) and see how good the nebula red looks in the flesh....
Must say, im quite excited (and im 36 lol) to see how she looks! -

unboxed, unpacked and unveiled.....WOW is all i can say....im astonished by the colour....the build quality, the screen brightness....everything.....glad i bought AW now!
-
The red looks awesome, but you can never go wrong with black. Black is a very classy color.
-
If I may add, after I got my hands for a few days on my black M15x and decided to return it, on second thought I don't recommend that colour to anyone. It's quite dull, and it's a dust/fingerprint magnet, more than a black M17x since it has a kind of glossy lid. Lunar grey or nebula red is highly recommended as far as I'm concerned.
-
-
Arg I keep coming back to this choice...
Blue = ideal, but not avail
Black = nice - but maybe gets fingers/dirty pretty easy
Red = better than silver and cleaner than black, but maybe a bit too red...
/sigh -
I would go for red if you had the extra cash.
It looks bad a$$ and also, (After seeing red in person) I can say that AlienFX is not really affected at all (You barely see the red while open). -
I tend to be attached to blue in the FX color is why the red seems a bit "offish". $100 is something, but not really much as a % of the overall cost. Figure once you are in for the cost of this machine, the color cost is more of a "get what you'll be happy with" kind of thing.
-
I have the silver. No regrets! No photos could do justice to express the metallic sheen when viewed in the flesh. Understated professional looks and flashy in the same package.
I never noticed any fingerprints or scratches on the silver parts. In fact its been a month and a half and i never had to wipe down any of the silver parts. Unlike the screen and keyboard surfaces which i had to constantly wipe clean off dust. I've even resorted to keeping a paintbrush handy to remove those pesky bits of dust that seem to get attracted to the black plastics.
I DID however notice the looks and stares that glowing alienhead attracts at the local Starbucks! -
TBH, the red happens to be the best color out of the three, i chose red and i might choose different color like silver the next time around. But red makes the system stand out, and makes it more noticeable, it makes people say "OMG!! Is that an Alienware!!" LOL
Nebula Red
-
i have red. but recommend silver cos it's different with M15x's, M17x have pure silver not grayish
