How do you know that this is the actual gsync 120Hz display?
-
Even if its prototype the way it looks is unacceptable
-
Why? Prototypes aren't sold to the consumer. Finished products are. I don't care even a little bit about any problems with prototypes if that problem doesn't make it to the finished product.
-
I'd put the weird screen quality on the environment luminosity and the camera not being focused on screen, but no it's no TN
.
OR it's the 120hz TN panel
Look at the video I linked you, It does look way better right ? it's the standard IPS FHD panel. The contrast looks rich -
It is very hard to judge a screen while watching it on another screen.
-
Its difficult to judge anything in any videos online as many of the systems they have had on hand have been engineering samples.
-
I'd say impossible without knowing the camera that recorded it, the codecs used, and what kind of pos-processing the video got. Naturally it will also matter in which screen it's being viewed.
-
When i tried to take a photo of my phone screen at an angle to show my responsive website on the phonescreen i had a similar look. The camera screws up the exposure to keep the rest of the scene correctly exposed. Also polarisation of the screen layers play a factor.
-
TN screen cant look good. Period.
-
Ok, but we are talking about TN.
IPS in this case is plain 60hz, so its not interesting at all. Same is 4K version. -
Like I said the WQHD panel that is used in the Asus 27inch Gsync monitor, Acer Predator XB1 27, Asus 27inch Gsync monitor is pretty good when it comes to color, contrast, brightness. Horizontal viewing angles are good. Vertical not so much. So if it is in the same league as that panel it can be okay.
-
Ok ok
-
Of course it won't be in the same league, as the highest end TN monitors, due to price constraints.
The Acer Predator XB271HU for example is an $800 monitor. -

You've gotta be kidding; if you pause it at 0:56 there's an extreme angle of the screen there with no colour distortion at all. There's no way that's a TN panel.
It could be in the same league as the MSI 17" TN panel though, which was reviewed extremely well by NBC: http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GT73VR-6RE-Titan-Notebook-Review.172916.0.html
Compared to the Asus 1080p IPS, the MSI's TN panel better blacks, better contrast ratio, and a higher colour gamut. -
Lol, in theory. In real life no one could guarantee Dell gonna use same panel.

Actually I can guarantee they won't use the same panel; the MSI is a 17" 1080p 120Hz panel, where Dell are using 15" 1080p 120Hz or 17" 1440p 120Hz panels. Still, there's the chance it'll be of similar quality. No point in any of us assuming anything until they're actually available and reviewed. -
So, when can we expect to see reviews of REAL PRODUCTION UNITS? And when will the first deliveries to customers be made?
Seems to be way to much speculation going on since AFAIK they should have been out in the field by now or have I missed something?

My sales guy said first shipments should be going out around October 6th-7th.

Who's your sales guy? Can he work with any of us?

Does anyone of these has HDMI In ?
-
No
-
Rather ask why Dellware skipped that nice feature after the socket machines. No other had this feature.
-
The 120Hz panel ? Don't judge it right away the initial AW reveal video doesn't really allow us to attest the quality of these screens.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but apparently the new laptops will support Optimus with the non-G-Sync panels: https://twitter.com/aw_umar/status/781537658854002688?s=09
Also, new timeframe for 120Hz panels is mid October: https://twitter.com/aw_umar/status/781580713032228864 -
Thanks for the heads up, Well, if there's no Gsync I'd rather have optimus ^^. that along with a 99whr battery pack will sure last loooong.
-
So AW Umar said QHD will be available for 15 inch on Twitter

Aw13 gets quadcore!

And it seems like there is no fhd 120hz gsync :/ i am a Bit confusedLast edited: Sep 30, 2016 -
Umar also posted a gallery showing the new AW13 vs the M11X
Now I am stuck between wanting the awesomely portable AW13 w/ OLED or the AW15 with 120 G-Sync. Alas!
http://imgur.com/a/iFjpx -
If the new 13 does HQ options, no doubt the successor to the i5-6300HQ is one of them. Now, whether it gets an i7-7700HQ (or whatever it'll be called) is yet to be seen.
-
Too bad the AW13 is still close to 6 lbs..
-
I think they are actually creating a competitor for the aorus x3 with this laptop. The thickness would allow more cooling.
-
Quad core on the 13" is great, the question is if they will have i7 quads.
-
Well gigabyte does it with thinner models while compromising cooling. So AW should be able to do it better with their current line up.
-
Well, the reason as why I say the i5-6300HQ's successor is very likely an option because it's a low cost option, just like it is in the 15 R2 and 15 R3. It's a quad core, but a budget one.
All that awaits is what i7-HQ they'll use. Probably an i7-7700HQ, and it stops there.
EDIT: Manuals for the 15 R3 and 17 R4 are up.

Also, the infamous FN + F7 is back.Last edited: Sep 30, 2016 -
FN+F7 means the dGPU is directly connected to the displayport etc? so we can use gsync?
-
That, we don't know. The HDMI and miniDP ports should be routed to the dGPU (because VR). What the FN+F7 does mean is that the dGPU is likely to be connected to the laptop's display.
-
Confirmed by Frank Azor via Twitter. November 1 full launch 1080gtx AW17
Sent from my E6853 using Tapatalk -
So from what I'm reading on the manual and the quickstart we won't probably have optimus but we will have the option of using the iGPU, which should increase battery life a lot no? (in all fairness it should always be on if you're on battery power x) )
-
It would be like the old days:
Switchable Graphics (iGPU drives display, dGPU can do work)
Discrete Graphics (dGPU does it all).
It's been a while that Alienware said a laptop has Optimus (maybe since the AW14?) in the specification papers. -

Except only a few posts later: https://twitter.com/aw_umar/status/781865669834907650
I'm really doubting that QHD is going to be an option for the 15"; I think he made a mistake. If you look at the manual it lists FHD 60Hz/120Hz and UHD as options. No mention of QHD: http://www.dell.com/support/manuals...7104E6-B8E1-4803-8B47-61420CB59FAE&lang=en-us
Heh, just noticed something about the display specs; apparently the diagonal size is only 15.6mm
Seems someone got their units mixed up.

Maybe it's a super secret reveal: the smallest gaming notebook ever!
Obviously, trading inches for milimeters is one hell of difference.
And they even give the equivalent value of 0.61 inches for diagonal measure! lol -
Thats also a great Info! This means it should be possible to upgrade the Screen to 120Hz if u bought a 60Hz now (assuming there are some on eBay and they are fitting) or am i wrong?

It's still uncertain I think. Having the display directly connected to the dedicated GPU would mean that Optimus is not available, and yet we've had 'confirmation' via twitter (for as much as that can be considered 'confirmed') that Optimus is available. I'm not going to assume anything until the laptops are in consumer / reviewer hands. -
Not necessarily. Alienware may have put in a MUX switch in the laptops, just like in the older, big laptops. That way, both the iGPU and dGPU are routed to the laptop display, and allowing the option to have Switchable Graphics (Optimus/Enduro) and a Discrete-Only option.
Of course, this is all unconfirmed, but it wouldn't surprise me if Alienware was mute/ignore the topic and we find out the laptops have a Switchable Graphics mode. -
They touted 7-8hr battery life and GSync 120Hz = MUX. End of story.

It's possible, but then Umar has stated that the G-Sync models don't support Optimus, which kind of kills that idea.
Like I said, it's still uncertain.
They've touted 7-8 hours battery life, but they haven't stated which versions have 7-8 hours battery life. Unless you've got something stating specifically that the G-Sync version has 7-8 hours battery life, IMO it's definitely not end of story. -
I am pretty sure thats the case. The Manual states that there is a Fn+f7 function, so this wouldnt make sense at all if u could switch between igpu and dgpu manually.. for this we got optimus now. I know the first m11x had this option but at that time there was no optimus.
On the other hand: alienware already has experience with mux switches and this function would make way more sense

Anyone know how much is going to cost the 17 model with 1080gtx ,6820HK and 2K 120hz screen? is it going to be at 3000-3500$ range or more than that?
-
Should be around 3000$-3200$. All other vendors with mobile quad and single gtx 1080 share the same price.
The laptop may feature g-sync and optimus. Clevo and msi has it, mux switch. You either use g-sync and dGpu connection or optimus and no g-sync upon restart.

Sorry if this is asked before but why 1080 isn't available yet ?
