Gt73vr also VERY noisy. On top cooling rpm it reaches ~60db.

In which test did 86c show up? I watched that Chinese Review, it is much lower temperature after repasting
-
Because the chinese review use liquid metal thermal pad. -
Can you see the picture?
Its a real life testing on game expo. Stock paste I gues. -
All brands can have their quality problems

4k UHD fps break down
Important resume: gtx1080 still suck at 4K -
EDIT/NOTE: MSI version of 4K does support Gsync

I think you guys are talking about two different things. quantumshadow's screenshots are of the MSI GT73VR with 1080. The Chinese review was of the Alienware 17 with 1070.
IMO not much point speculating on what the Alienware might be with a 1080 based on a completely different laptop.quantumshadow likes this. -
MSI screenshot for reference only. AW performance could be similar.

Question. In terms of input lag(talking about gaming like Street Fighter V), does it mean both non gysnc and gysnc are the same?
Sent from my E6853 using Tapatalk -
This will depend on how you use the non G-sync.
Meaning, if you don't have G-Sync you can either use V-Sync or not.
In order to remove tearing without G-Sync you would need to use good old V-Sync.
The down side to V-Sync is that it introduces more input lag and also incurs a frame rate performance hit.
I do not mean because the FPS is capped at the refresh rate I mean you actually lose some GPU processing power to use V-Sync.
One of a the biggest benefit with G-Sync is that you get the same no tearing result from using V-Sync but with out the extra input lag and without the performance hit.
Don't get me wrong there is a slight performance hit if you look at benchmarks while using G-Sync but its not that significant and I wouldn't exactly call it a performance hit.
I would call it a reduction of power to fully optimize the output visuals. At the end of the day one could use neither can get full blown balls to the wall FPS but graphics output you would see would be suffering.
i.e. tearing etc.
I personally think its better to have a fps at a solid some what locked 90-120 FPS versus a FPS that can go to 200 but is also bouncing around more.iunlock likes this. -
He didn't used that. It was a normal paste. He didn't put the liquid metal result on youtube.
-
Sorry I cannot see the picture.

I think the AW17 1080 will have a modified heatsink or beefier fans, but it on't be the exact same barebone for the 1060/1070 and 1080 imho.
Proof please ? -
Even asked Alienware/Dell about current Displays for 17 R4 version and 10% off in my country, they said it´s not the 120Hz one so i guess it´s the 60Hz GSYNC Model? Is there any 60Hz GSYNC model at alienware 17 inch devices? I still hope they´ve got incorrect information at support but seems not
Does it make sense to wait 1 month (argh) and put 200 bugs on about to receive 120Hz display instead?
regards,

No need of proof. I am Chinese myself. The Chinese youtuber didn't use liquid metal during test. He paste some liquid metal to the new AW15 because his friend gave him some and he just wanna try it while showing people how to disassemble a AW15.
-
bro was that test on stock paste from alienware or was it gelid extreme or some other tim ???

nobody knows. Dell proved to roll out different hardware SLOWLY. If spec sheet doesnt clearly state screen has gsync then it hasnt.
Depend on how big hardcore gamer you are. I know people who cant live with fps less than 144hz. They got nuts when see mouse pointer dragging across the screen leaving trail (!?).
Also depend of how you can handle TN (opposite to IPS or AHVA).
Most shooters require high fps in order to spot enemies faster. All other slow pace games ok with 60fps. -

The info page is up for the 13 - not sure if anyone posted this yet, didn't see it the last 40 pages or so.

Nice! Does OLED display present screen tearing just like LCD? Be a shame to get the amazing colors and then have screen tearing.
-
CATALANOpunch Notebook Consultant
I currently use a 4k OLED as my primary display - I dont notice too much tearing, but I do use vsync (which bothers some people). I dont play any twitch games though, closest thing is DOTA 2. -
Nice specs for the 13, if my memory serves me correct someone mentioned the slight delay to why the lead times on these new Alienwares is long due to a Chinese holiday?
-
Weight is 5 lbs-- so turns out it's not too heavy as expected, though still heavier than previous iteration.

There is confirmation of the quad core, which was the most important thing I saw - Alienware’s most powerful 13" gaming laptop. Featuring quad-core, H-class processors and NVIDIA 10-series graphics, the Alienware 13 has evolved to offer unprecedented gameplay."

"SSD-Only Storage"
So much for a cheap laptop. I guess there'll be two M.2 slots, with the starting capcity at 128 GB to at least cheapen the price. However, it's about 5 pounds, which is only half a pound heavier than the 13 R1/R2.
And with no information about any other GPUs, either the GTX 1060 is the only option or the other options are under NDA and cannot be listed. -

I am really bummed about this - Umar mentioned a 2.5 option - but that doesnt seem to be the case. I have a TB 2.5 sitting here that would save me a ton of money vs upgrading an M2. -
Maybe it's possible to use a 2.5 inch drive instead of m.2, similar to the current 13.
-
The question that remains is, will there be an i7 option?
-
CATALANOpunch Notebook Consultant
I didn't know that was possible? Is it supported right out of the box? Any adapter needed? -
Yes, you can see the adapter in this upgrade video, You can either fit 2 m.2 drives or a single 2.5.
-
You do need the right cable if you wanted to make the transition from 2.5" to M.2 and vice versa. And if you're going to M.2, you'll need the adapter.
I could see the 13 R3 implement the same thing, now that this has been brought up. -
Some Cooler Master stuff. Neither the stock paste nor the best paste.

Question, how do you guys get good price when ordering Alienware?

Anyone have any clue on how long it might take for these to show up in stores? I plan on ordering mine in the next few weeks but id love to be able to see it on display somewhere before i order.

Based on how retail works I would assume probably within the next week or so. Most major retails get their stuff qued up for the holidays by now with occasional new release items coming about a week or so before Halloween.

So, is it really true that the new AWs doesn't have a TPM chip??

Buying anything sight unseen is kind of risky. Photos and reviews and YouTube videos are nice, but there is no substitute for live inspection and physically handling something before you bet your paycheck on it being what you want. This is especially true when a totally new/redesigned product comes out and there is no verdict from the end user folks in communities like NBR and Tech|Inferno attesting to the quality and performance based on their personal experience. Taking a leap of faith is sometimes necessary, but I rarely ever feel comfortable doing that. With several examples of hot-running laptops with Pascal GPUs sporting thermal pads that are too thick, fans loud enough to scare deaf librarians and what not, there is good reason for pause.
-
Thank God for guinea pigs. We'd all be lost without them. I finally stopped doing that. It got to be too expensive after a while. Now I let others go first using their own money and watch.

you know returning stuff is covered by dell right? even the shipping label. -
Is this a good deal for new AW 15?

I'd say spend a bit more on upgraded warranty if you intend to keep it for more than a year.
Adds to the resale value, too.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Of course. You have to be resolute and not listen to any of their diversions to let the time window run out though. They'll make every false claim and ludicrous promise imaginable to buy more time while the clock is ticking. If you're buying it for the purpose of testing and sharing your findings and sending it back with absolutely no intention of keeping it, as you do, that should not be too difficult. For those that buy it with the intention of keeping it and find that they are not liking what they got, it's a dangerous but highly effective stall tactic that they have been using for a long time. To be done effectively, you have to be very demanding and refuse to accept anything less than a refund/RMA and pre-paid return label on your first contact with them. Otherwise, the run-around will start, people won't get back to you, etc... Until the last grain of sand falls through the hourglass and they say "sorry, the return windows has closed" LOL.Papusan likes this.

I got you.
What configuration you want me to test? -
I find it hard to believe, but someone that bought the machine will have to confirm. The previous AWs have a TPM chip. It probably comes by default on the motherboard...
