Yes, a high gamut screen would be my preference over the current M18x panel. I also mentioned a few times in the past that IMHO, the best laptop screen on the planet is a 30-bit IPS RGBLED MAtte panel found in high-end Elitebooks and maybe Precision (though their screens have more tinting). I'd love to see such a screen in AW and Clevo laptops. In fact, if there's no such an option this year, I'm not even going to think about upgrading.

I never said there wasn't any advantage of having air enter the front of a laptop vs the bottom. Only said that the cooling performance wasn't as great given the components and also the real gaming temps were always higher than those of the same gen AW machines.

Personally, I find the M18xR1 to be equipped with every possible feature except for better screen quality + matte finish. We have everything, from HDMI-IN&OUT,

2x headphone jacks - neat feature! We have kids and when they fall asleep me and my wife can still enjoy watching movies over a glass of blue label JW without any need to leave the floor or compromise on volume level!
WirelessHD, etc. I terminated our Telus TV account and stream the movies directly to our plasma tv while still working on my laptop. It's simply amazing!
Macro Keys: Gamer or not it's always nice to have one key shortcuts for launching frequently used applications, or store handy key sequences like Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/etc. If typing a lot it can save you quite a bit of time. I find not only the functions but also the position of macro keys to be perfect for a laptop. Another great plus!
State of the art backlight system - you can even play music with the lights synchronized and flashing like on a disco, lol Not so handy to me but still a nice bonus.
one of the best sound systems found in a laptop - An absolute must for me, I hate mediocre sounds systems of the business grade machines.
12in1 card reader - great for backward compatibility with all gens of older and newer cards out there. no need to connect my old Fujifilm s5500 via usb anymore like I used to do with every other laptop.

I'd love to see all of these features in the next gen in addition to:
    1) IPS RGBLED matte 120hz screen
    2) more hard drives
    3)mSata slot for mobile broadband

    Lol I wish ;) :D
So you actually didn't own a MacBook before? then is not much to discuss there
I didn't said they was powerful did I ? you can extend the warranty like any other company when it comes to repairs they fix it locally or they replace it with a new system

You can guys think whatever you want buy Clevos Alienwares Asus here is to many people that they didn't even try all the I tried in years all the part replacements frustration broken laptops

Righ now I don't own a laptop I am not going to lie the one I order from the outlet has stuck pixels and dell replace the screen 3 times until I give up and that's what usually happens I am not to patient to deal with all that crap all the laptops has issues that's why is better to have the best warranty and the rest is secondary

No need to be rude, I'm asking a question looking for an answer.
Sound quality seems poor compared to other laptops I've heard, which is disappointing in a computer that many artists use to create music. Doesn't get very loud, and the sound isn't crisp.
No, you didn't say it was powerful. Partially because Mac's can't run anything that would cause significant stress, besides Adobe applications which most people think their built-in programs are better anyways, or they just view and edit their pics (photoshop) after they designed them in a computer that can actually handle the files.
Didn't know about warranty, thought it only came with one year.

Having used many Apple computers, Air, MBP, and desktop, I'm not afraid to say that I'm a Mac hater. That being said, that doesn't mean that I'm so close minded as to not want to know, learn, and understand other people's point of view. There are aspects of their computers that I like, but there are also more features that I dislike. With people like you that have owned many laptops, I feel it is important to probe as much as I can wilts looking to buy a laptop. Since, as you pointed out, I haven't actually owned a Mac computer as my own personal device, I have to rely on my brief usages here and there, and knowledge from people like you to see if their low specs can ever justify the price tag.

I'll tell you I am still on the edge of my seat waiting on the M18X details.. Wanting the RGB full gamut screen (1920 X 1200 would rock here people!) I don't thing its a lot to ask for.. It one of the things that's kept me in my M1710 for so long.

I waited to buy into the M17X R3 only to be let down when they no longer had the 1920X1200 and did not buy.. The M18X came out and I deiced that getting 4gigs of Vram might sort of make up for it. And now..Hoping to get both! (I expect to be let down)

I do have to comment in on the Clevo / Sager 2012 systems...I was watching them very closely and it WAS a strong contender for me.. First they were to ship early march, then late March, then early April, Then late April... A few days ago....Seems units went out to the retailers ONLY to be shipped back to the manufacturer Due to "Catastrophic Failure" as it was explained to me. What that means, I'm not really sure but the "release date" has been pushed back again on them.. The stats keep changing ...I feel I can not trust their product at this time. Maybe the R2 for them but there is no way I am touching the R1 with 100 foot pole.

    -Just saying..

    AC Adapter options:
    240W and 330W

    GPU options:
    2x Radeon HD 7970M (CrossFire)

Wireless HD (WiHD) Card - optional extra for both M18X R2 and M17X R4.

LCD: 18.4" FullHD LCD White-LED Glossy...sorry, still no RGB-LED offered on this model.
Also, it's still "stuck" at FullHD (2MP) resolution. They're not even trying to compete with the New iPad 3MP screen.

    CPU options:
    Ivy Bridge i7-3610QM,2.3GHz
    Ivy Bridge i7-3720QM,2.6GHz
    Ivy Bridge i7-3820QM,2.7GHz

    HDD Storage options:

    750GB 7.2K 2.5"

    SSD Storage options:
    256GB / 512GB Samsung PM830, SATA3, 7mm, 2.5"
    32GB / 64GB Samsung PM830, SATA3, mSATA
    512GB Micron C400, SATA3, 7mm, 2.5"

    RAM options:
    2GB / 4GB / 8GB, 1600MHz
    2GB 1866MHz

Looks like R1 topspec just as good :)

so there is no reason to wait for the m18x r2 because its the same as the currnet model except with a ivy bridge and 600m series gpu(which u can put into the m18x anyway) so then should i buy the m18x r1 now and upgrade it to duel 7990m's or 680m's when they come out? sounds good to me also for a cheaper price am i right?

Looking pretty good and in line with speculation, shame about the screen but hey you cant have everything and i can certainly see why redesigns may well be left to next year. Of course a pretty big factor remaining is the price, its all well and good offering those specs but if i have to remortgage the house to buy it i dont think it'll be happening :p

Is anybody else a little pissed off there is no news for a new M11x R4?
Sure it's great to see the bigger models get some nice new hardware and refresh but is AW going to ignore arguably one of there best laptops in term of sales?
If any AW laptop needs a refresh it's the M11x.

I am too how come with all that power of dual 675M's they cant put a 120HZ screen but it makes sense they want to keep the r4 appealing

and why there is no info for the M14X r2? we can just expect gt640M-gt650M and quad cores they can't put nothing else on that machine with one fan only

I agreed with that when the latest was the R2, but to be honest I think they upgraded a lot of good stuff in the R3 (particularly the GPU).

Now, the only remaining thing is to get a matte screen on the M11x, but that's true for all AW laptops. :)

Its time for 6990 upgrade to 7970M/675M :D

I think 2920/2960 still powerful enough , its not necessary to upgrade , unless its free.

@iPhantomhives congrats on your 99,999 post :) :D I don't think you even need to upgrade to 675's if they are just 580's and not more powerfull than your 6990's lets wait and see how the 7970's perform and that would be the only reason for actual M18X owners to upgrade

    lol that's funny :D :p

Looks like I'm gonna wait for the next refresh to upgrade. This 6990m should keep me going
.... for now. If the 7970 is a worthwhile upgrade I may look at that, but till then I'm content with what I have. :)

there is got to be a way to put the Vaio RGB screen to work on the M18X I know the screen has one extra connector for the backlit but if you know the pinout and the voltages with some skills and a soldering gun it may be possible ;)

Once this becomes official, and there is no RGBLED, then it will be time for me to eBay either a single 6990 or two of them for Xfire, now, if there is a way to slap a 7970M in my RGB R2 then I will be soooooo there :D

I'm still so depressed that that panel was not compatible with the m18x. I had such high hopes... If the R2 panel isn't an upgrade, I may just buy a used or refurb R1 and see what happens in future revisions.

I think Intel`s NDA ends Monday next week. Then we will see tons of new notebooks announced.

I just hope AMD have everything ready til that date and doesn`t chain up the OEMs with more NDA

Same here though I'm not holding my breath to see something exciting as far the M18x screen goes. :(

There probably won't be a M11x R4 until the Ivy Bridge dual cores come out in June, but the current R3 might still get an updated GPU (28nm Kepler).

That would be awesome especially if the panel is matte/ag but AFAIK, there are no 3D panels in 18.4" category. Perhaps he meant the M17xR4 :)
