And I thought GT660m would be an option for the m14x...Why isn't it so?
-
Sucks big time if they discontinue the M11x. Very unexpected, and sad. Wonder what valid reasons they have.

It looks like Alienware engineers are lazy to put a subwoofer in M17x R4
I dont mind if they want to use the old chassis but a least improve/modify one or two things. I also want 90%-95% gamut LCD
Now Clevo gaming laptops already have multi-colour backlit keyboard and equipped with Onkyo speakers (and subwoofer), I think Dell/Alienware need to rise up their game. -

From Tom's Hardware,
"Though no official announcement, the Alienware M18X R2 gaming laptop specs have been leaked.
Information coming out of dell-lab.posterous.com has the upcoming Alienware M18X R2 featuring the new Ivy Bridge mobile CPUs. Users will have the option between three CPUs: i7-3610QM (@ 2.3 GHz), i7-3720QM (@2.6 GHz) and i7-3820QM (@ 2.7 GHz). To power the 18.4-inch FullHD LCD White-LED Glossy screen, end-users with have the option for dual Radeon HD 7970M (CrossFire) or dual GeForce GTX 675M (SLI) mobile graphic cards. A third option of the GeForce GTX 660M will be available but it is unknown if it will be available in SLI or just a single card setup. As for your memory options, the M18X R2 will offer DDR3 1600 MHz in 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB, with DDR3 1866 at 2 GB.
Users will find the M18X R2 offers a wide range of storage options from standard hard drives to SSDs. Users will be able to choose either a 500 GB 7.2K 2.5-inch HDD or 750 GB 7.2K 2.5-inch HDD for their systems. If speed is more your thing, you have the option for SSD storage. The SSD storage options include; 256 GB / 512 GB Samsung PM830 (SATA3, 7mm, 2.5-inch), 32 GB / 64 GB Samsung PM830 (SATA3, mSATA) or 512 GB Micron C400 (SATA3, 7mm, 2.5-inch). In addition, the Alienware M18X R2 will feature a Wireless HD card (optional), a 240 W or 330 W AC adapter, and two color choices - red and black." -
For what it's worth, my idea at IdeaStorm, asking for "Matte screens on all Alienware laptops", has been put "Under Review". This is good news, because topics placed under review usually end up receiving a definite answer, whether "yes we will implement it", or "no we won't".
If you want to make your voice heard by Dell about this, now is the time to flood that thing with "+1" comments...

(sorry for mentioning this again; I'm not spamming, I just REALLY want to buy an M14x with a matte screen) -
Looks like somethings are official : Alienware refreshes M14x, M17x and M18x with new graphics, same old processors -- Engadget
-
Too bad wanted to buy a m14x... Well I hope then that for the m14x R3 matte screen and thinner chassis will be there

Wow, that is a REALLY BIG disappointment ..... especially for those that waited eagerly or postponed buying an R1 only to find little enhancement of any great note on the R2.

Alienware refreshes M14x, M17x and M18x with new graphics, same old processors -- Engadget
Engadget just announced M14x, M17x and M18x refreshes.
M14x will come with GT 650m GGDR5.
EDIT : French configurator mentions Dual HDD configuration for the M14x :
64GB mSATA Boot Drive + 500GB SATA (7,200rpm)
64GB mSATA Boot Drive + 1TB SATA (5,400rpm)
EDIT 2 : Sorry I didn't see you posted this already ! -
The systems are already up and ready to order with an estimate delivery date end of May 2012... I do not know why this is still a speculation thread...
-
Can somebody explain me what is the "64GB mSATA Boot Drive" mentioned in the m14x r2 configuration? Is it a SSD?

It should be a mini PCIe SSD.

Not matte, but anti-glare is better than nothing! -
I now see only nvidia gtx 660 and 675 no AMD option at all (which was available earlier today) Hopefully it will pop back later on.
-
I guess the R1 already has the "anti-glare" treatment.
It's labelled "TrueLife" here, maybe it's not the same thing though. -
And maybe a 1920x1080 resolution would have been nice for the m14x.

And here I was thinking Clevo was lagging behind with their "refresh".
-
Mmm this new m14x smells good
, perhaps this or the new mbp (when it comes out).
The GT 650m sounds just great, is it GDDR5 or GDDR3? -
It is GDDR5
.
You can choose between the 1go and 2go version. -
This is just GREAT news this baby should be on pair or a lil bit better than the GTX 560m
. Sorry for keeping asking, any idea of the release date?.
-
Canadian site pricing gone nut! cpu upgrade from 2670 to 2760 is $731, to 2960xm is $1481.
-
Better wait for ivy bridge though. -
Yep, I guess the first batch of core i7s will cost a kidney
, but the performance looks very nice. Is just that on some place of the official alienware page I managed to customize the R1 :S, but by entering through DELL I got the R2.
Let's see how much it will cost in Mexico... I have some discounts there!. -

Dell Alienware M18X R2 Specs Leak | techPowerUp
I would say possibly that what we are seeing on the config page is not the R2 but a revision with 600 series GPU's and the R2 will be close behind, agian speculation.
Sadly looks like no screen upgrade at this time.

Killing the 11" was a typical Dell Move.
They innovate, build something ahead of its time.. And wonder why it doesn't sell well. However, after they have established a brand and the market is about to explode for it.. they pull it.
Did it with the Adamo (ultrabook), did it with their MP3, PDA, Smart Phones.. everything.. -

Until I see clear evidence that an Ivy Bridge XM proc solidly outperforms a Sandy Bridge XM proc and the new generation dual-GPU configurations totally slaughter what I already have, and that the M18x R2 is not downgraded to a plastic chassis like the shenanigan they pulled with the M17x R3, I will have minimal interest in the R2. For me personally, the speculation is all rather pointless until we have full disclosure and Alienware shows us their cards.
New M17x R4, M14X R2 and M18X R2 are coming - Speculation thread.
