Didnt read all the post but the 7970m is up on the US site, cost 150 dollars less then the GTX 675m and 200 dollars more then the GTX 660m.

Can't wait to see how well the 7970m performs, here's hoping it does well because it's probably the GPU I'll be getting in my next system.

The flaw in your logic is that the 675m can also be overclocked.

The simple fact is, the 650m is only specified to work at those given speeds and there's no guarantee you'll be able to overclock your specific card at all. It certainly won't overclock to the levels needed to match even a stock 675m - never mind a 675m that's also overclocked. You might not even be able to reach 660m speeds on some cards, as some of them will possibly be rejected 660m chips that can't remain stable at the 660m clocks. Variation in the cards means that some will be able to overclock better than others - and you should never rely on overclocks for speed comparisons, unless one card consistently overclocks better than another and you're accounting for conditions that make an overclock reliable.

He was acknowledging that it's not going to be as fast as an overclocked 580, that would just be stupid to assume otherwise... (not a hit towards you, just clarifying)

if 1+x = y, then obviously 2+x = y+1 will be greater (with no monkeying around for you math nerds, I see where you're headed, just an analogy)

I know pretty much nothing about overclocking, but even I know that you'd never be able to, without some crazy luck or w/e overclock a card like the 650 to the same as an overclocked 580/675, and foolish to think otherwise.

Sorry if old, but here's a video of the new M14x, M17x, and M18x side by side. I mean, they're exactly the same externally as the previous versions, but I finally found a video to directly compare the size difference between M17x R3 and the M18x, which isn't as big as I thought it would be. I'd probably still buy the M17x instead though :/

It will take ages for Dell AU to stock the new revision anyway.

They don't even have the new 7xxx series video option card on the R3 yet.

As much as I don't like sticking up for dell, I just did some looking into the prices of M11s and M14s, we do cop a little bit of a price gouge, but were the extra cost hits us is the "forced" upgrades, our units have higher specs than the american ones, thusly ours begin to cost more from the start, it wouldn't be as bad if they let us get the 'yank bottom spec' ones as then the prices would be similar...

So its the forced "updgradeds" that is killing our prices mostly (well on the m11 and m14 anyway)..

    Cheers,
    Nick

Might be a good source to get the skinny before we do our press release tomorrow. That would depend on how his NDA is worded, and if he adheres.

Dang! I miss all the good stuff when I don't check the thread every day.

Should be in the release tomorrow. If not, remind me in the thread, and I'll ask.

    ^See what I did there?^

DO NOT CANCEL YOUR ORDER, unless you need to cancel for reasons other than wanting your system to ship with Ivy. If you placed your order after the announcement on Thursday, let it ride. All will work out fine.

Component manufacturer release dates slip sometimes. Sometimes you plan your production cycle based on supply/demand and when you expect a new component to release to sale. When that date shifts, your plans are shot. The last thing you want to do is "gap out," which means you have no systems up on your website for order. This is in NO WAY a reference to ANY Dell business partner. It's just meant as one isolated and totally-not-necessarily-related-to-anything-going-on-now example of why SOMETIMES dates may shift, and systems integrators (Dell, HP, Asus, etc) have to do a little tap dance to cover gap outs.

Speedy obviously got straight A+'s in Reading Between the Lines 101 and 102. ;)

I can't say for sure, because I haven't read any of the merchandising decks sitting in my inbox (zzzzzzzzzzzz boooorrrrinnnggggg), but my guess is price will not change.

*Do not hold me to that, as I have no idea for certain, but I'd be really surprised if we did that and sacrificed all the goodwill we're about to earn in 24-48 hrs.

I need to clear up one little thing in advance of any upcoming news. This will require reading between the lines again. Note I made 3 distinctions about embargoes- announce, sell and ship. A certain bit of happiness and joy depends on the ship embargo, and not the announce or sale. That is all.

Not tomorrow. You will have to hang tight for a wee bit. Can't say more.

Apparently the reviews for Ivy have been coming in. Granted it is only the desktop stuff but it basically is Sandy Bridge that is more power efficient, doesn't overclock as well and has a quicker iGPU and also PCIe 3.0 support. I expect that in terms of laptops, users should see a minor bump in speed, slight better battery life and better integrated GPU performance. The i7 3770k stays cool up to about 1.32v with temps under 80C and then the tiniest bump causes it to shoot straight to 100C no matter what your cooling (apart from subzero).

I'm gonna jump on the Ivy bandwagon when the GTX 680m comes out and whether it is any good, if not I'll get an Ivy with the 7970m. I also want the PCIe gen3 (MXM 3.1) support :D As you can see from my sig, I'm a power user and I probably will get a 3920XM for the overclockability however from what I am seeing, I'm not hoping for much in terms keeping things cool :(

Just placed an order for a M18x R2 today with an estimated ship date of May 23. Let's hope that all this reading between the lines will land me an R2 w/ an Ivy surprise.

You will be fine after the ship embargo lifts, which is before any orders will ship in May.

DO NOT cancel your order unless it's for a reason other than wanting IB. If you suddenly need the money back, by all means, cancel. Or if you decide to go with an MSI or whatever, by all means, cancel. But if you are only cancelling so you can re-order with IB, don't do it.
