all Aus units came with 330watt as did mine with 580m GTX. i think dell US site should be 240watt for single GPU Config or 330watt for dual GPU config.
headsup to any US person that ordered recently

I haven't personally had any issues with mine but I have only had one Alienware machine so far. I have read a great deal about how great the Dell support is and many people here will say the same thing. It even common to get the machine exchanged all together further down the line if an issue persist. I have read of several people that got upgraded to m18x (from m17x) and so forth.

Since you seem to live at a location without Alienware resellers I would atleast consider the extended 2 or three year warranty.

Sounds super secret, was told I'd get no contact from the shipper until the laptop arrives due to restrictions in place *cough*cough* ETA 19th May. So delivery dates after then mean 'guaranteed' Ivy Bridge as others have said.

18% discount what do you guys think?

£2180.79 after tax and shipping for M18x R2

Alienware M18x Cosmic Black - Anodized Aluminum
    (whatever replaces this)Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.1GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
English Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
    Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675M SLI™
    8192MB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
    HARD DRIVE 500GB 7,200rpm SATA 6Gb/s HDD

    Primary 12-cell 96W/HR
3 Years Next Day In-Home Service with Premium Phone Support

Tried to see if he could do me a reasonably priced SSD i.e. not £600 for a 256Gb. But all he offered was 18% off everything which swallows up the discount everywhere else.

PS: He tried telling me installing the SSD myself would void all the warranties, smells of sales pitch?

One thing: if your system is not sold in your country, we don't have parts or service for it in place. You would have to mail the system back to wherever it was shipped, and they would have to deal with the service. Not the best situation, but we have no support infrastructure in place in countries where we don't sell a product.

    UPDATE:

Remember I explained about the 3 types of embargoes? Well, we've looked at the situation with a particular unnamed component that shall remain nameless. The messaging for customers and our front line agents is confusing. So, there will be no announcement today. When this embargo for the unnamed component lifts (currently targeted for April 29), we will clear everything up with one announcement instead of parsing them out on 2 different days.

To be perfectly clear, this DOES NOT change what I've said about not cancelling your order because you want to make sure the unnamed component which shall remain nameless is on your new system. I highly suggest if you have already ordered, do not cancel unless you need to for reasons other than component availability. Only cancel if you need to for other reasons is my guidance. If you are ready to order today, I would go ahead and order so you could get in line. All orders will begin shipping in early May. A certain unnamed component that shall remain nameless will be on your order provided you ordered after last week's announcement.

All this means to the bottom line is that nothing has changed other than we won't be announcing anything today, but rather we are targeting the next round of announcements for April 30 (6 more days).

Don't throw things at me. I'm already hiding under my desk.

Does this cover Dell worldwide or just US?

I have a quote for an M14xR2 in the UK and when I questioned about the unnamed component I was told my quote was only valid for the named component and even if the unnamed component was released I would still be given the component on the sheet.

It warms my heart to see the front line is staying on message. However, as long as you placed your order after last week's announcement for one of the 3 new products announced- no matter the region- your system will ship in May or after with the desired unnamed component. If something totally wacky happens, and it doesn't, I guarantee you can reach out to me here. I'll make it so. But you won't have to. You're good.

Sorry if a bit off topic; but if I were to order today; the EDD would be 05/22. When would my creditcard get charged? Right away or closer to delivery/when it's in production?

Also the 30 day return only starts ticking once it's out for delivery?

Go for at least 3 years Advanced warranty if you can swing it financially. You'll be glad you did. I got 4 years and it paid for itself at least three times over. It's an awesome warranty. If you add extra time to an existing system, it will cost a ton more money than adding it to a brand new (not yet delivered) system. If you need to cancel the order and re-order to get the lowest warranty price, might as well do that. That will also ensure you get the unnamed item Bill has us excited and curious about.

I'm wondering if they will be shipping the unnamed parts as replacements for the current gen?? I.e. M18x R2 for M18x R1. I have to call today for failing proc and I'm worried about a delay in parts with all this model changeover. This is like part swap #4 so system might get swapped.

We have this question on the table with engineering and marketing now. It's too early to tell if they will update the BIOS to support next gen CPU's. Internal discussion has just begun. As far as I know, we are not back logged on current gen CPU's for service stock. We may have gapped out at the factory, but service stock levels are good as far as I know. Make sure you point out that 4 parts with no resolution angle when you talk to tech support. I can't speak for what they can do, but I can definitely say you should make that part of your story for them.

Yes. We are targeting an early post-launch date for cut in. Just know it's coming soon, and we'll announce it when it does.

Your card is not billed until the order ships, not when it's in production. The return policy is 21 days in most regions. I think there are some countries where local laws dictate 30 days. UK maybe? In either case, the clock starts ticking once we have invoiced the system (aka shipped it, aka charged your credit card).

(sorry for bombarding you with questions) but am I able to configure a M14x with the Killer wireless at this time? If not, am I able to make changes to my order ~May if my laptop is not shipped yet, and that wireless card becomes available?

It might say on your order details. If you can look and post the part number back, we can check it. Don't post your order number, please. Privacy concerns.

Killer Nic coming later. You will have to take the Intel for now. We will not have a formal upgrade process. You will have to buy the card from us or other outlet and install our posted driver when it's released.

Cant wait for my M14xr2 to arrive with this unnamed component within!!
My only let down with alienware is that they dont support custom name plates in the UK =/

Correct. We've kept the front line agents in the dark a bit, because the message is too confusing. The chance for miscommunication is high if they know all the details. Not that they are dumb or anything. It's just not the usual, straightforward launch. Too easy for them to make incorrect assumptions if they haven't stopped to read the internal comms. M14xR2 will bring you unnamed component that shall remain nameless joy.

Hmmm. Current target date to exit qualification is known to us, but we can't share. It may slip for other reasons (supply logistics is one that may put us at risk, for example). The date we have in mind to exit qual is pretty soon (that's "very soon" plus a week). What date that translates into for order availability is not known to anyone at this time. We're doing all we can on our end (marketing) to make it ready the very next day after qual exit.

OK. So, I BOM'd the part down. Comes back:
    D6GG7 MOD,SSDR,256G,S3,#1,7MM,PM830
That means it's Dell part number D6GG7, SATA3, Samsung PM830. That drive is only available through OEM/ODM purchases right now, and it's mSATA at SATA3 speeds. Here's a thorough review. It's fast. Really fast.

APJ launches on May 2. China on May 5. I'm guessing Singapore gets in with the APJ launch date or very shortly thereafter.

    Bill,

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I was hoping it was a msata drive, this gives me a better options to find a secondary drive for either storage or raid. Again, thanks to you I'm feeling better everyday about my purchase.
