If you actually look at the benchmark comparison charts the dual 580ms beat 7970m by like 5-10% in most of them

I ordered my m14xr2 the day after it was released, my expected delivery date (EDD) is may the 16th
Anyone getting theres before this date?
Might be a geek and do an unboxing vid
-
Most people should be getting it in May so dellinware can sneak in a certain unnameable upgrade of the processing kind soon as they become avaiable
-
I didn't ask him directly about this but it's assumed. As Bill has indirectly mentioned; it will include this part. (You can always cancel/return if it doesn't). But why else would the EDD be so far away if it didn't include the unnamed component?
-
Thats what, i cannot return i live in a country where we dont get alienwares :/
and i would be receiving it through my brother who visits us once an year :/ -
It sounds like your brother could return it for you if it doesn't have the unnamed components? Im ordering one now, the anticipation is killing me
-
I caved in. Just ordered my M14X from dell. Got an awesome deal. Thanks Bill.
-
Yeh its all adding up and fitting together that we will get ivy bridge in this years refreshes xD
Why would alienware release a refresh with last years cpu when thier competitors will be using IB?
All the shipdates are mid may plus, this gives them time to build the laptops after recieving the IB proccesors from intel around april the 29th??
Ive read that IB shouldnt increase the price of the laptops!
The reps just tell you what they know and dont want to cause confusion =)
You could wait to order when alienware confirm all this if you can wait
I cant wait, i needed a laptop asap after my ancient dell 6400 died
I got engineering assignments to write!
Just sit back and keep an eye or two on this forum for updates ^^ -

Fairly interesting. -
Some reps do know but aren't allowed to say anything like Bill said.
Well to the dark side! I mean the Alienware side ! -
Any1 knows if the CPU Changing if you order a Sandy now is the same in Germany?
Cuz the Alienware chat there is super representative with spamming all the same sentences xD -
Just ordered this bad boy from Dell using a whopping AAFES Military discount. Hopefully based on Bill's information, I'll get lucky and see a particular unnamed component that shall remain nameless when it arrives.

Ty very much
Then ill order an m17x r4 with
core i7 2760qm
6gb ram
500gb hdd
7970m
for 1500
i got 16GB ram at home and 128gb ssd at home so all will work out well i hope
-
I checked the M17x R4 on AAFES and it comes out about the same as P170EM w/ i7 2760QM. I'm considering now one, but wanted to know how the AW screen compares to stock (or 90% gamut) 17.3" Clevo and was wondering if anyone tried both and what's your point on each one?
-
True that
but as you say " anticipation is killing me" , think about me man
if i dont get the component ,my bro will take it back and bring after an year , lol till then anticipation would have killed me
Plus i had already ordered on the 2nd day from the announcement ^^ so if i get the same things with a lower price i shall cancel the current one and order again from him =]
Anyways to my final conclusion , il stick to my original order =]
which delivers on 25th may x] -
Well this thread sort of died after learning the 7970m's for the M18x-R2 won't be available for at least another week... It sucks because you know Nvidia is probably going to try and release something, and with all their upcoming announcements, it just makes me nervous. I hope by the time these AMD cards are released they aren't somehow outdated, or soon to be...
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
you know what is the worst part the M17XR4 offer more GPU power than the M18X now and by the time they release 7970's on the M18X and we pre order that GPU will be outdated lol there a lot of people purchasing ES 7970's now that maybe the only way to go
+ rep
-
Yeah Speedy it always seems like if you cannot get the product the day it is released or at least with in the first week or so the clock is ticking so fast that you will be outdated by the time you actually receive it
.
I know last year the 6970 owners were not all to happy they announced the 6990s so quickly.
I wont be surprised if the 7990s will be right around corner this time as well.. -
indeed the wait of waiting for the 7970m cf is killing me, someday I just want to order the 675 sli and get it over with.
-
Dear QuadBro,
Long time, no see. And yes, you are right. -
Optimistic Prime Notebook Evangelist
This is likely an announcement regarding the desktop GTX 690. This has been speculated by multiple sources. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yeah man I just see all that people getting 7970M ES's and make me wonder what I am waiting for at least Dell should list the cards on the website so I can order and wait a month
-
Imagine the powah of a 7990 if a 7970m can reach a desktop 580(behind by like 5-10%)!
Tbh if the 7970 is already at 100 W can the tdp for mobile cards go any higher with the current mxm ? -
BorntoPumpGas Notebook Consultant
Agreed, I thought the counter was cool
-
No sign of bill yet for more clues and inbetweeners
Hopefully by the 29th the waiting game will be over
-
I believe they said the new MXM slots in the M18x handle 130w so they can indeed go higher
The power of the new cards are so insane even a single 7970 for gaming purposes is more then enough and will be for sometime to come.
They need to create newer games to take advantage of all this great new tech but sadly the tech is coming far faster then the great new games. -
Holy wow.. imagine a dual 7990 config...bet thatll run crysis 1 nicely XD
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
that's the funny part we are playing 10 year old games on this new tech lol but I don't care where is my 7970's DELL ?

here you go sir 7990's you can play plants vs zombies at max res -
Didnt Bill say that there was a driver qualification issue and it should be out quiet soon ( very soon + a week ) :/
But omg we can finally play plants v zombies at max res?! -
Optimistic Prime Notebook Evangelist
I would expect the so-called embargo on the unnamed component will be lifted on the 29th, to which internally the announcements happen at Dell, and we'll hear about it on the 30th. Speculation on my part.
As far as ordering a new system now, it has been said multiple times that your system should ship with the unnamed component. I would trust the source.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
exactly soon + a week
I just don't know why we can't order if is going to take a month to build to begin with I guess this is worst because I don't have a computer and my wife do my son's do
yeah lets play angry birds 4096x2160 DX11 high res textures
-
I don't know to get 7970's soon as they come out or wait and see if they DO end up releasing 7990m's. Either way your patience will be rewarded !
As for the angry birds...I think we're lacking the raw power for that now :/ Lets stick to 800x600 -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yeah I don't need more than a single 7970m for everything I do so is not like I would die if they release 7990's but like you say the patience will be rewarded I really hope
yeah man 800x600 sounds more realistic that's a demanding game
-
The unnamed component and the Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M - AMD CrossFireXT are listed now on m18x' Tech Specs.. posted on dell us website.
-
Nice thnx for the update !
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!

-
I cant find it either...

BlackStar plushie is not amused . -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us -
Exactly what I see...
-
They took it out lol.. at least we were able to get a screenie..
-
Wouldve been nice to confirm the pricing though XD
Surprised they didn't put an option for single 7970m -
yea.. thats what i thought as well
-
Looks like they are just toying with us atm, atleast we can see whats to come! Good find
4.1GHz quad core
P
-
BLACKSTAR WANT ! Lol jokes
Probably better to get the standard clocks one and overclock it yourself later if needed ( saves a 100 or so dollars if I remember right) -
What deal did you get? I am looking to core an i7, 2gb vid card and upgraded screen.
-
Well I took Dell-Bill_B advice and re-ordered my system that I called and canceled yesterday morning... before I read this site... lol... but 2 things came out of my read, I changed my video card to the HD 7970M from the GTX675... now the waiting game for aforementioned part that will not be named... 8) Here's what I ordered....
M17X R4, 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-2760QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0), 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M, 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz, Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader, 64GB mSATA + 500G 7200RPM
My question is when, notice the confidence, they upgrade my system to Ivy Bridge will I get a comparable cpu? I hope so.....
Thanks for all your help goes out to everyone on this site,,, CHEERS -
Bit of a newb, but seeing this mSATA a lot in the refresh, and just wondering: how does it work?
Is it cache like in hybrid hard drives? or some sort of mini ssd for boot drives?
Also if it's a mini ssd, does it act like having a secondary hard drive in terms of putting things on it?
Or am I just way off lol.
New M17x R4, M14X R2 and M18X R2 are coming - Speculation thread.
