I dont think is coming out until june though
-
Unfortunately not an option, as Alienware is not stocked in Vietnam, and there's warranty implications if buying a second hand or refurbished laptop and making a warranty claim in an Indirect yet Dell recognized country (Vietnam). I won't go into it, but buying new is the only option.
I don't mind if the R2 is not available for sale until June, but if an official announcement is just around the corner it should help drop prices of the r1 almost immediately after the announcement is made. Dell know they'll need to drop prices to sell remaining inventory. -
hi guys,
just wondering, will dell released the m15x for the 2012 lineup updates?
thanks -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
nope I think the current models are here to stay at least for this year.
-
I was wondering when the m14x R2 is released will the R1 model become much cheaper?
-
-
It's only clocked at 405Mhz! Impressive.
-
Now with the news of watercooling in the m18x we can now expect to have huge improvement in the m18x r2 if they decide to do it.
-
rumours are Nvidia announcing Kepler on 21st March, and Intel announcing Ivy bridge on 23rd March.
Shipping is another story, hopefully after they announce and lift the NDA. Dell will stop being shy and show us their new beasts! -
No, under load its clocks boost significantly. I know one review said the 640M bumps up to 625MHz on the core, so the 650M will do at least that, maybe a little more.
-
Any comment from anybody else in the know here? That makes good sense Tofu. I was going to order my r1 tonight, but maybe I should wait for a few more days to see if the announcement drops prices for R1
-
Well we know Nvidia is supposed to be lifting an NDA sometime this week.
-
Tomorrow, if rumours hold.
-
M18??? - OK so I am looking to buy a new M17x - I have the M17 R2, guess I should wait, but how long I really need more RAM and speed. Any spec on the M18? - Fortunately company buy, so $ not an issue, speed is.
Ah I'm a dumb butt, just bought it online
- M18s are out and shipping.
-
NDA is lifted
As we already know the GTX 675M is the rebranded 580M with only slightly higher clocks. No joy.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Got an origin PC email because I ended up on their mailing list at one point or another and it seems like they have just released the 675m for their higher end machines. I don't see alienware holding back for to long now as other higher end performance companies release their refreshes.
-
Now to wait for the 7970M and GTX 680M.....
-
TheBluePill Notebook Nobel Laureate
Short wait i hope. Maybe by Summer all will be out on the Market. -
7970M should arrive together with the 675M, at least as far as M17x/M18x are concerned. By the end of April everything should be announced.
-
Isn't the joy (or at least some bit of contentment) in 28nm upping the power efficiency? Might have some effect on Nvidia performance in a 17" or smaller chassis in light of a certain current issue with the 580 in the M17x.
Tune in to the news coming out of PAX East in April.
-
Die shrink and improved power efficiency leave more room for extra clocks+shaders. I doubt the actual TDP's will change much though except for the idle power draw.
Hmmm, that's sooner than I expected
-
Power draw is what matters in regards to "that certain issue."
One very important PC component vendor not named Nvidia or AMD has an embargo in effect. Whether an exception is granted or not is what remains to be seen. If you watch the PAX East news, you'll know if it was lifted or not.
Edit:
And I'm not sure about the TDP. Good thing for me to check on, though. Even if I can't say, it's good to know. -
Such a shame that the GTX 675 and 670 are rebrands. And GTX 660m in M14x R2 is quite possible.
-
TheBluePill Notebook Nobel Laureate
I don't think the 660M is much of a Stretch to put in the 14. -
Yes, that is suppose to be the joy but 660 and 675m are rebranded old GPU with higher clock. Meaning its not Kepler, no better efficiency.
Its probably gonna be old heavy alienware again.. sigh -
The 660M is Kepler, the 675M is a rebrand.
-
680M is supposed to be the new arch but its launch is tooo far ahead. Closer to autumn.
-
Does anybody have a decent idea about how long it is generally between launch and availability? Was definitely going to go for a totally tricked out m14x r1, but now considering waiting to see what the r2 is like. If its going to be another 6-8 after announcement to good availability though I might just buy an R1.
-
I'd say mid-end of May.
-
So if I buy the new model in, lets assume April.
Will I be able to upgrade to 680M in the near future?
Will it void the warrenty? Or can I send it back and pay for dell to upgrade it for me? -
You are asking questions which don't have answers.
-
Just a thought I was about to buy one last night as-well, then I mentioned I was going to hold off for the R2, I was talking through the chat btw, and the guy was like "No", its prolly coming out next year. So I was like give me a discount and he dropped the price $400...That make me think it may come out soon
-
Does anybody know of any other laptop that may come close to the performance of the M14x-with the setup they offer now?
-
Really? That's a pretty good discount. What were you getting? I'm going for a reasonably pimped m14x. About $1700USD with no discounts.
-
Is there any word on when the 680M option is going to be released? I'm buying an R2 at mid July. Want to know if I could hold off until those come out.

You can get Clevo 15"s with a 580M or 6990M.
Other than that.. Asus has the ROG Series, MSI has some hot machines.. Check out Sager, Malibal, XoticPC, etc.. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I heard in the fall, But I don't have any proof.
I guess we will just wait and see. It comes out when it comes out.
-
But, indeed, nobody give you the world wide warranty / support service that Dell provides...
-
TheBluePill Notebook Nobel Laureate
No Doubt.
. -
well, the next MSI laptop looks promising. If Alienware doesn't improve in build quality/weight with the coming refresh, I might consider going for them instead.
There is a 15" and 17" model -
TheBluePill Notebook Nobel Laureate
The Alienware Build Quality is quite good.. But i can't argue much on the weight.. Still.. the cooling is excellent.. so you do get something for it. -
Just curious: Are MSI providing the same level of world wide warranty / support service as Dell?
P.S.: Belive me (and my multi old years of experience)... this is important as quality and much more important than weight... -
Also, MSI is still leagues behind in components quality, reliability and performance. AW has only one competitor - Clevo. Next, come the top tier business grade machines (HP Elitebooks, Dell Precision and Lenovo ThinkPad W) and while they lose in terms of power and sound, they surpass both AW and Clevo in build quality, visuals (IPS RGBLED Matte screens), reliability and warranty coverage.
back to topic: I wonder what did Nvidia think when they put the 675M against the 7970M, the later should clearly win... And the 680M is not going to be released till late summer. -
Damn. I guess I'm going to have a longer wait
.
-
It's already out..?
Or did you mean on customization in AW laptops?
-
katalin_2003 NBR Spectre Super Moderator
It's not released as 'it's not out', not available in any system.
-
I just bought an m14x R1 last night and he knocked off almost $400USD from the retail price. Definitely a good sign they're selling existing stock in preparation for ivy bridge and Kepler refreshes.
As for the warranty, if you live in a non-direct country such as Vietnam (myself), then Alienware warranties are still honored! It was an extremely long and painful process to get this information, that eventually had to go to senior management in charge of continents, but I'm here to tell you that Alienware international warranties are about as International as you'll be able to find. Any country recognized with an official Dell network will honor your warranty, despite what a lot of the lower level support people will tell you.
Now just hoping this was the right decision to make and that the low TDP of Kepler doesn't result in a huge leap forward from the gt 555m currently in the R1.... -
Dude, definitely was not the time to buy an M14x. I'm betting the next r2 is gonna have something close to the performance of the GTX 660m. Although there are no benchmarks for that card yet, I know the 640m has been benchmarked and that card is doing significantly better than the 555m. It's actually pretty close to the GTX 560m. The GTX 660m is even better than the 640m, so I can only imagine how crazy the performance is gonna be from it.
-
GTX 660m will be the entry level card for the M17x R4 doubt the M14x R2 will have a GTX series card.
-
If the GTX 660m's tdp is low enough it will definitely be put in the m14x r2, it just needs to be able to be integrated into the motherboard.
New M17x R4, M14X R2 and M18X R2 are coming - Speculation thread.
