I've heard rumors you can make that number jump by getting the latest drivers from nvidia.com. Not a big jump, but a jump none the less.

Btw when my system was in production stage, I called them up and requested them to change the name on the name plate to something else... but when I received my system, the name shown on it was still the original one. Anyhow, I called them today and they told me they can't ship the name plate I requested ( why?... ) but they're giving me $50.00 discount so I guess I shouldn't complain... =S

Well... when I was about to make an order, I had 2 systems on my cart. One had the name plate " Roxanne & Yuki " ( I just typed some random name on that build ) and the other one is " Roxanne " ( I didn't remember that the name plates were different at that time ). I deleted one of them, and went ahead to make the order. A day later I realized I ordered the system with the " Roxanne & Yuki " tag so I'm like " oh hell no "... >_<

    I requested " Roxanne " but still got " Roxanne & Yuki " =S

Yuki is my cat's name btw. XD

Just received my black m15x at 1:04pm today.. its now sitting locked up in my suitcase (in my dorm room.. staying in a double heh) charging while i'm at the library studying after class (such is the woes of a college student T_T)

    a few things:

looks awesome, sturdy, and it really feels lighter than the 9lbs i expected. or maybe that's just me, haha. I feel its definitely carryable for a typical college student. the installation is fuss free too and it is extremely silent for such a beast (haven't ran any programs tho, had to rush off for class). LIGHTING including when charging is AWESOME.

did a quick check on dxdiag and BIOS was a01. didn't do much else like checking for Bluetooth etc. According to the packing list on the Fedex box, there wasn't any bluetooth minicard among the specs (and the order form i printed when i ordered) :(

another big problem, or maybe i'm just new to getting shipped stuff, was that I did not receive an invoice. Should I call them up about that?? There is only a small packing list on the top of the FEDEX box that lists the configuration and specs and its kinda like a tear-out piece of paper.

Will be downloading the bluetooth driver as recommended and testing to see if it connects to any bluetooth device later tonight. Will be posting pics too =D

for info, i ordered my set on Oct 20th, and was shipped out on Nov 2nd. Arrived today (Nov 4th) =) way earlier than their original EDD of Nov 10th, so worry not guys, it should be arriving soon.

note: the touchpad still feels laggy even with the new bios, but was managable.. managed to navigate windows without much problem, its just a slight annoyance. Then again, i'm gonna be using a mouse most of the time, so it isn't much of an issue

    p.s. nice pics roxy! =)

    oh ok thanks!

another update: just got a $100 coupon (no other purchase necessary) from dell EPP for a single online purchase... this was cos they increased the discount from 7% to 10% a week after I purchased the system and slashed the upgrade prices =) might get that orion messenger bag or a monitor + wireless keyboard set!

to clarify once again, Bluetooth did not show for me using device manager nor windows search function until I downloaded the BT driver from the Dell site -- this is after I had done a clean install of Win7 -- don't know if it was there under the original vista, didn't have resaon to check it then. After I installed the driver I activated a BT mouse and both the mouse and the BT card now show in device manager. BT is supposed to be standard in the M15.

Okay, BT - I don't see the drivers on dell's site and I don't see it in my device manager. I will keep digging but right now it looks like BT is not included.

Hey vek, I was expecting this to happen. It seems the 720 is quite popular and alot of people in the XPS forums are having the same issues with the processor being on backorder. I hope they can get that out to you ASAP.

Few questions though, does anyone have any idea how to get the media controls to work with winamp?
Oh and any good programmes to use for overclocking the gtx260m?
Never had an Nvidia card before and Nvidia control panel seems to be a little lacking in features.

Well, they have started to box a few of the XPS orders that had the 720, so maybe it won't be on backorder for too long since the I7 is the primary processor for this laptop. *crossing fingers for ya*

yeah it seems like it shouldn't be on back order at all, but like you said.. being that its the primary proc. makes it more so likely. i wonder is anybody with the 820 or the 920 dealing with this as well....

in the mean time ill need something to keep my mind of this back order issue.

    Congrats ApoNono

as for me... I am a bit angered!!!

I left a note for the fed ex guys printed and signed for him to leave my shipment in the garage since I'd be at work and what do it get.....

a flipping door tag... GRRRR, the whole point of my leaving that note was to avoid that flippin door tag!

so now im excited and mad all at the same time, guess ill just have to be patient and wait until tomorrow. :(

lgsshedden - I downloaded the drivers, installed them and got a message in the install saying to activate bluetooth by turning on the bluetooth switch. I did that but the message never changed. Guess that means mine doesn't have the card in it?

Ummm it worked at 1st then the sound stops working and almost everything I try to do is greeted with a program has stopped responding message. I kept re-booting to fix it but after a few minutes things stopped working again. I believe it had to do with the displayport sound setting because after I changed it back to default speakers everything worked fine again(knocking on wood). But I am back to no sound through TV. Anyone else had this issue?

Got mine in on monday. All I can say, is I have been so busy gushing over every detail (the superb craftsmanship, the insane performance) that I have not had time to take pics or write a review @_@

I will have a review up this weekend but for now, I can say I am 200% blown away by this system!!!! Can you say Crysis on ULTRA settings on NATIVE RESOLUTION??? MY M15x CAN :D :D :D

Alienware has definately created a machine so unbelievably fast, that I am quite scared to be left alone in the room with it

I'm sorry mate, this sounds awful and definitely a nightmare. How did you pay by the way? I'm curious... with that amount of money I'm sure there might be a couple of processing lags depending on payment, though you ordered September and we're in November now...this is really absurd... and to top it they get the colour wrong. I'd be really mad if this were me, places like Rock albeit more expensive and delivering after payment within 5 days or earlier. That's Dell for ya... :/

i was bored so i did a little price comparison:

My specs when ordered through the dell website:

    m15x = 1,499 starting price
m15x cosmic black = included in price
intel core i7 720qm = included in price
    1gb Nvidia Geforce GTX 260m = add $200
    1920 x 1080 = add $100
    6gb DDR3 @ 1333mhz = add $350
    500gb SATAII @ 7200rpm = add $75
blu ray reader = add $150
    9 cell battery = add $100

Grand total = $ 2474, on the website it says $2524
I just needed to put this in comparison as these are the same specs that i have and i paid $1910.75 and also got free next day shipping.

although, i do have to deal with this back order issue with my i7 720qm, i just needed something to keep me motivated and excited about my purchase. if you would like to share some of your price comparisons with any discounts you may have received feel free to do so. thanks

Question on Hive. To login you need your customer ID and zip code. As someone else here indicated, all I got was a FedEx sticker with my parts list. It has a customer number for AAFES (where I ordered from), then has shipped to me at my address. Needless to say, I haven't been able to login to hive since I don't have a customer number of my own. My biggest concern is that I paid for an extended warranty and am wondering how they track it.

For example, with AppleCare, they send you either download it or buy the package, load it up, then the extended care stays with that computer until it expires. Anyone know how the Alienware extended warranty works/is tracked?

It is tracked via your service tag ID# which should be on the bottom of your lappy or on the side of the box you received. I believe when you make your order, the warranty is then tagged to that ID#. You can call Dell, give them your service tag ID#, and they can verify for you. Hope this helps! :D

Edit: Oh forgot to mention.. hive does not apply nor work for the Dell/Alienware units. It is only for the older Alienware products that were sold through Alienware themselves.

BT Update: I have been on the phone with Tech Support for the last hour.

Step 1: Remote Control my machine and do everything I did to try to get the phantom BT Card to work. - Failed for me and Tech

Step 1.2: Tech wanted me to open case to look for the card but I told him I was not his onsite tech

Step 2: Tech checked invoice - BT Not Listed (I could have told him that)

Step 3: Tech checked Customize Options on website to confirm if BT was optional as their specs say it is - Tech could not find the BT Card option (No surprise there I double checked this the other day)

Step 4: Tech said he found out they have multiple tickets open on this issue and is going to order me a card (free of charge) and schedule an onsite tech to come out and install it for me.
Tech is going to call me tomorrow and setup a time for Friday to come out and install the card. so the turn around time is really good.

Looks like there is a goof as far as the website options and what the manufacturing facilities have as far as what to install.

The BT Card is supposed to be optional but on the site it is listing as a default item. So if you already have an order in and yours shows up without a BT card just call Tech Support and they should sort you out like they are sorting me out.

    Hope this helps

    ApoNono

PS: I will post a mini review in the next day or two for those who care about a young mans opinion on this wonderful machine.

I was looking for that link.. thanks shadow. So, once you click on that link, just put your service tag ID# in that field, and it should tell you. Now, if it does not show anything, depending on how long you have had your laptop, it does take some time for the system to update the information.

Edit: @ Apo, thank you very much. I wonder what is going on over there. I repped you for your efforts. They really need to fix this, instead of issuing tickets and having techs go out....sheesh.

Thanks Bubbamel, at least Tech Support is willing to get the card installed with little to no trouble and in less than a week turn around in my case.

I have no immediate need for a BT card but when you pay this kind of money for a machine you expect everything to be installed that the website says will be.

I agree, and that is why I am very displeased. Especially when it has always been offered.

So far so good...just came at a bad time lol. I do online school so Tuesday night (the day it arrived), getting all homework ready for 11pm turn-in deadline. Today, next unit of school (2 classes) starts, have to post in two separate discussion boards and attend seminar.

Long story short, all I've gotten to so far is d/l WoW, d/l Bitdefender, d/l Firefox, d/l CCleaner and installing them all...haven't done anything except surf lol. Still have to load Office and Adobe Creative Suite, and more school tomorrow night, so probably Friday night and the weekend before I put it through some paces.

Also, I've had zero problems with Windows 7, FX, etc., so I am pretty happy about that...but then, like I said, not a lot of time spent yet!

    GL on the upgrade!
