before the Tech Support guy got off the phone with me he said that his Supervisor is contacting the Website team at Dell to have them fix the site but assured me anyone in my shoes will get it for free but I agree - it is a slip up that should not have happened.

thanks for that shirt, I just sent dell a email about the upgrade to the 820 so ill follow up tommorrow with a call.

I really hope this works out, that would be awesome if i could get the 820 for free, but if their able to do it they may charge something. free is always nice though. ;)

No hive anymore for new units including the M15: all online stuff is through the Dell support site, and Alienware is phone support only, next business day on site standard for first 12 months.

Good work on the BT issue: seems both that and the video options were inaccurate but hey, if that's the biggest gripe we can come up with its pretty good: hopefully everyone's on site experience with tech support is as positive as mine was -- the tech guys were positively drooling to actually get to play with the new M15!

Looking forward to the next phase of this thread as more and more people get their laptops delivered and running as they want with suitable wallpapers, log on screens etc.

Recieved my Alien today. And man, this is a nice machine. I haven't had much time to mess with it, just checked to make sure everything works and it doesn't heat up or anything. So far, it's a champ. Ran 3d'06 and got 11337 marks. Not bad at all. This is with the 820, 260M and 4GB1333. Standard config through AAFES. Unfornately, I head back out for CQ's tomorrow (military) so I have to lock it up for the next two weeks. Quick question though, those that done the Win7 upgrade, does it do a full wipe and reload. IAW, is there any reason to load all my games, iTunes, and crap or just wait for the Win7 disk to get here and go through it all then?

Oh, and BTW, the 1600x900 screen and BluRay looks awesome. Anyone on the fence on the screen resolution, the 1600x900 doesn't dissapoint.

@ chris, when did you order your laptop? they pre installed windows 7 on all systems placed on or after the 18th of october.

it sucks that you have to go back out, but im sure that time will go by quick.

I second this. I had a chance to play around more with my boy's M15X and I'm pretty sure this is the machine I want. The 1600x900 screen is very nice, and the build quality is underrated. The plus is while gaming it is decidedly on the quiet side IMHO. He's been thinking of going with a Blu-Ray/Red/1920x1080 one (Current is DVDRW/Cosmic Black/1600x900), so I might be able to scarf this one off of him.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I ordered through AAFES on the 16Oct, Dell began production on the 18th. My invoice has the Win7 Coupon on it when I ordered, guess they hadn't updated the AAFES site in time. No worries though. I figure the disk will be here by the time we get back, I can do the fresh install, and spend the day getting everything loaded.

I'm still amazed at the quality of the system and how much a difference dealing with Dell vs AW has been. I ordered a M9750 back in the day, returned it for a full return because of a dead vid card, dead battery (wouldn't take a charge) and DVD with a faulty tray. It was hell, and AW was PITA to work with. It took a BBB complaint and my bank to get my full return back. But, it seems Dellienware is working good together so far. Kudos to them.

Oh, and a side note. If you're into RPG's, pick up Dragon Age: Origins. It doesn't dissapoint.

I definitely second this. It probably looks great on the M15x. I know bioware is pretty good on optimizing their engine for PCs. It runs great on my desktop! :D

what would be your dream colors for the m15x ? or is the black, silver and red good enough for you

i would have bought the red one if the lid wasnt red. that might sound weird to you guys, but i really like the sides of the laptop being red...but the whole lid is just too much for me. it would be a little awkward to open up in my college classes where all the students have thinkpads because the school gives those out to everyone

    Maroon with gold highlights.....

The pack-ins would be a Pimp (Huggy bear style) hat with glass platform boots and a mink jacket.....the mouse would look like a pimp glass and everytime you changed the color scheme a sound file would scream, "DY-NO-MITE!!!!!"

The back would be etched with Snoop dog in full pimp mode attire...the bottom would have Kat Williams. :D

    ....sniggity diggity dog....

But seriously, yeah, Maroon with gold highlights. ;)

It's all about personal taste..you know, eye of the beholder. I agree with your friend and think AW laptops are ugly and overly flashy. My preference lies with the new Clevo models but then some might feel those are too plain and boring. Just depends on what you like.

If you turn off the lights, the Alienwares are not flashy at all. They look very edgy and progressive.

My next Laptop - if they ever make it - is a next-gen ATI powered Alienware with faster and cooler i7s... thinking 3ghz i7-950 level performance with a 25 or 35W TDP.

tried installing the driver from dell, after it says click on wireless button to activate bluetooth... doesn't continue because i don't seem to be able to activate bluetooth.

I'm assuming the wireless button is the synaptic touch button beside the louder volume and alien FX button, above the "PAUSE-BREAK" key. i only get a wireless symbol when i press it.

will be calling dell tech support up tmr as well to get my card installed.. -.-

Yeah I'm getting the 1600x900 for better gaming performance question on blue-ray.

For blu-ray is there a significant difference in image quality on 720p vs 1080p?

Since 1600x900 is 900p can you set up your blu-ray for 900p display or not? I'm new to the whole blue-ray.

to our eyes there is very little difference from 720p to 1080p
i have never heard of an option to set it to 900p don't think its possible
    but 720p is fine

You got a PO# from AAFES or Dell?

I'm assuming your state-side but what's AAFES/DELLs number on checking your order status?

i got my PO# from AAFES, once your order goes through with them it will be available. a good number for AAFES is below.

you can check your status online and by phone. the AAFES is 18005272345, a good number for dell is 18002832210 (its automated) press option 3, 2, 1, 1 ... its somewhat accurate, but you can always call customer service once dell receives your order from AAFES if you need more help.

you can go to the dell order status website to http://support.dell.com/support/order/status.aspx ... select your PO# and zip code from the drop down boxes. the zip code will be 75266

    hope this helps. GL

activate bluetooth from the main search button: not sure the media button is an active switch for the bluetooth, just the wifi -- will experiment
well that's confirmed: just hit the media button and it switched off the wifi and turns it back on buit has no effect on the BT. Use the main program search function, and then open the bluetooth program first time and it will search and find any BT devices you want to attach.

Which 15" display is the M15x using? The Clevo W860's have the AUOED model that I think is the same as the ones used in Dell Studio 15 and 16.

i would find a piece of wood or a dinner tray or somthing flast to go underneath the laptop to make sure the vents are clear, as the bottom of the laptop has parts that come out with rubber feet on which helps with the circulation.

Iam totally confused which colour to order... any suggestions??

    JUST GOT NY m15x!

    First impressions:
    1) GORGEOUS boxing
    2) GORGEOUS manual
    3) GORGEOUS LAPTOP
    4) very quick
    5) plugged in mouse because Touchpad is even worse than the last m15x
