Oh awesome. Around the clock huh? So my brand new very expensive M15X monster is being assembled by a sleep deprived Malaysian worker on minimum wage hoping for overtime. Fabulous.

I'd say mine was in production for about 5 business days

Wow guys, this thing is phenomenal. I'm blown away at the quality of the build.... ESPECIALLY if you had an m15x before

Oh and with brightness turned down and power saving mode on, the 9 cell estimates about 2 hrs 30 mins

Amen! This is feels like its coming a from a diff. company compared to the old m15x! As for battery life on the 6 cell, lets just say alienware was nice to include a UPS with their "mobile desktop." Not really good for much more than switching outlets or a power surge :p Then again, thats all I wanted from this baby :D

Well, my status just went to Shipping! That's 7 days after placing the order.

I don't know what happens next. I paid for next business day so the logical hard nosed in me says that better damn well be here tomorrow, but the Dell website naturally is showing "tracking unavailable", "shipping date unavailable". The EDD has not changed from 11/16/09.

Fingers crossed. Had a ty day at work today so staying home to wait for a delivery tomorrow will be awkward, but hey, f*ck it.

Wow, it's all action in Dell order fullfillment day. 10 minutes after the status said "Shipping", the EDD changed to ...... [drum roll] TOMORROW [/drum roll]. That's 8 days order to delivery IF they aren't lying poopy heads.

I have the black...no more a fingerprint magnet than my old black sager, or any other system I've had. If you have gunk on your hands, gonna transfer to what you're holding :p . I am not any way disappointed that I went black instead of red or silver (tbh, silver wasn't even a consideration, coming from a MBP unibody, which is aluminum and silver).

as far as battery life for a performance laptop goes.....

its like asking the mpg for a Lambo... call me crazy but I know ill be happy even if this monster had 1 hr battery.

    Hi People!

Here is the status of my M15X.
1.) Tried BT driver from XPS studio 16 R226750.exe
and it says "activate bluetooth using wireless switch" or else need to press
cancel. So I think my M15X doesn't come with BT.
2.)My CPU-Z don't give the exact frequency of my DDR3? Would someone can help me how to verify this beside opening the laptop? Any software? I have 1333MHZ and I want to make it sure it is 1333MHZ.
3.)Also in the attachment, I ran HD Monitor and I am surprised that all four cores were in 57-60 degrees Celsius? Is that normal??? It was in balanced mode running on battery. I am beginning to worry. Help me out here and inputs are needed asap!

    my precious M15x Nebula Red
    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.73 GHz
    4GB DDR3 at 1333MHz
    15.6-inch Wide HD 1600 x 900

Honestly, I feel like seriously hating on Alienware simply because mine still has yet to ship. I ordered it last weekend and was hoping it'd ship sometime this week. But, it's still "in production"...

Maybe I need to simply forget about this order and just wait for the box to suddenly show up at my house. But, I intentionally ordered the M15X with only a few minor tweaks to cut the shipping time in half. Well, looks like I failed there!

Anyway, sorry for the small rant. The M15X I ordered has the i7 processor with 4gigs of DDR3, a 320gig HD, and a 512mb nvidia 240m graphics card. That's it. Everything else is basically what you start with. Its a cheap build, but those specs will provide me with what I want from the laptop.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of Alienware and I'm just looking forward to getting my hands on this computer. But, I seriously lack patience here.

Felt exactly the same way until I saw my status change this evening. You ordered yours last weekend? If that's the case you ordered 2 to 3 days after me. Mine went into 'shipping' this evening so (fingers crossed), you should see an update change Monday/Tuesday?

Not long now dude. Hang in there - I'm told it's worth it.

    Thanks, Froogle.

I don't know how Dell ships, but I think they ship in batches. Mine, was much like your original estimated shipping time, on or before 11/16. But now they're showing on or before 11/18. So, hopefully it'll ship sometime next week.

I was hoping to see this shipment before the weekend... But, I guess all good things come with time. In the meantime, glad to hear yours is on the way. Enjoy!

i saw one today at Microcenter.. The screen on it was amazing 1600x900.. Bright with awesome colors and viewing angles... The keyboard lighting left a bit to be desired compared to the M17x .. Looks like it has one strip of LEDs to handle the backlighting .. Chasis looked alot different as well as it had more gloss and painted look to it .. Overall though very nice machine and that screen was outta this world :)..

honestly, i does feel like it was made by someone else entirely... lol Dell. Finally, the build quality is as good as my old trusty 12" Dell 700m which i've been using more and more over the past few days while i waited for the mothership to land .

    little story for you guys...
I was so anxious to play games on this thing when I first got it, but I knew i had to get work done first... so after loading up the backed up docs from work, thoroughly scanning and installing productivity software, i finally got the chance to install far cry 2 after a few reboots! i did so, loaded up my saved game for a couple days ago on my other pc that i was playing... but to my dismay THIS THING COULDNT EVEN HANDLE THE SCOPED DOWN SPECS (low-medium on way lower res than native) AT MORE THAN LIKE 10 FPS!

I was so dismayed and immediately knew something had to be wrong! I quit out into windows, checked my nvidia control panel, searched google for weird performance issues... and then it hit me! I never turned off stealth mode :D I went back into far cry 2 with a confident grin, ramped the res WAY UP (to my native 1080P res) and then flipped ALL the graphics options to ULTRA :D (for those of you nfamiliar with far cry/crysis/crytek games, the options go 'low to medium to high to very high to ultra) .... smoooooth as butter! What a beauty! <3

oh and its managed to stay relatively cool the whole time!!
    This one's definitely a keeper!!

Hey guys, I have some information for you. I've spent countless hours over the past week on the phone with sales representatives, customer care representatives, resolution specialists and all of their managers/supervisors.

As of a couple of hours ago, the production facility in Texas DOES have i7 720QM processors on hand and are fulfilling orders at this time. I don't have any knowledge as to how much supply they have, but I do know that they do have some and are not completely backordered. I received this information because in order for Dell to apply a $100 coupon to my order, they had to cancel and reenter the order. This obviously pushed back my order a week or so, so they assured me that they would escalate my order and highly prioritize it so it would be built and shipped sooner. At that time, I asked them about the i7 backorder and they called the production facility up and asked them for me about them, and they told me that they would be able to start building my laptop asap because they do have the i7 processors.

After talking to almost a dozen diffferent people at Dell, I managed to get a pretty good overall deal through EPP on my Alienware M15x:

    Core i7 720QM
    4GB DDR3 1066
    1920x1080 WLED
    NVIDIA GTX 260M
    500GB 7200RPM HD
    9-Cell Battery
    Next-Day Delivery
    Subtotal: $1,686.60
    Total (Tax Included): $1,804.67

They also made mention of compensating me with a $75 Dell coupon for all of the inconvenience I have suffered.

The cooling seems to be pretty beefy in it so if anything just some more fan activity trying to keep the temps under control.. I doubt you will feel any heat coming off the keyboard etc just from the new CPU since it already has a quad in it so its not like going from a dual core to a quad.. The difference should be minimal at best.. Throw Prime 95 on there and run it on both CPUs though to see whats up..

Thanks for that info electrosoft I was wondering which monitor is 1600x900.

Anyone have any performance/benchmark on GTA 4?
Is there a way to turn off all your lights? Because when I'm trying to sleep the lights would be quite distractive?

I know this laptop can run WoW on Ultra (Max) settings so that game is cake :D

M15x has Intel mobo/chipset. M17X has the Nvidia mobo and hybrid system (9400M / High power cards)
Haven't had a chance to Furmark/OCCT it yet
MXM3.0b and yes, it is possible. 280M has already been tested and works.

Don't bother with GTA4, it has issues with the i7. Someone previously mentioned on their 920 CPU the game keeps dropping to very low frame rates. I tried it out on my 820 and had the same deal, frame rates fluctuate between 30fps and 3fps. Turning off Turbo and the Nvidia mulit-core setting didn't help me either. This is the only game I've tried so far that does not run well.

Lights are no truble, FN+F11 turns them off.

CSHawkeye81 do you mean you've picked up a i7-920M off the shelf, and plan on putting it into your M15x?

I am quite keen on picking one of these up now. Just wish there was a dell kiosk located in South Australia so I could have a look at the things dimensions. Will have to wait till Christmas, I know Sydney has them, might be time for a holiday.

Seriously, does anyone have a Dell XPS M1730 and a M15x? If anyone does, please post up some size comparo pictures! If I can see these, might be able to buy one soonish in time for Christmas.

Got a question for those who bought their M15x rather than using Dell financing.

When I purchased my M15x, it was last weekend and the amount was paid in full over the phone. Now it seems like Dell failed to collect and the money has been dumped back into my funds. When I noticed this, I thought "deja vu" because the same thing happened a year ago when I purchased my 15" XPS. Needless to say, I received my XPS. But, Dell still didn't collect until a day or two after the package arrived. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I ask this question because I know my XPS does not have all the specs and nice features as my upcoming M15x. So I understand that processing takes a bit longer. But, I just don't want any setbacks... I'm trying to be patient with Dell and respect the Alienware brand. But it doesn't help when the vendor fails to follow through like they should.

Yes, it has a tutorial while you start to play which gives you an overview on how to move, interact, use your inventory, control party members etc.
