Ugh, for those who recently ordered inquiring about the Free Headset and Mouse the only way to get it added to your order is to cancel and reorder.

 

That's what I was afraid of...

 

Stealth mode was ON. It is now OFF. Dragon Age is back to smooth-as-baby-butt framerates. Now I have to build a cover for that button so it NEVER gets pushed again!

If I could get my hands on the engineer who made that bar...

Im on the line with a Dell Order rep who is able to get me the same price I had (with that 100 dollar coupon from a week or so ago) so Im gonna go ahead and cancel/reorder. At least this way I know for sure the bluetooth card is coming installed on my computer.

I mean it sucks because it pushes back my EDD but free stuff is free stuff I suppose. Especially when it's free stuff you can use!

 

What's so good about blue-tooth anyways?

 

instead of the free stuff, u should have had them remove it from the configuration so u save $175

It looks like if you're ordering right now and get the free headset/mouse they ship right now and the laptop gets shipped separately.

 

Has anyone overclocked their GTX 260M yet? If so, how and what results?

if you look at the right side of the page when ordering under print summary it says also includes Internal Bluetooth 2.1 Mini-Card - 2.1 Enhanced Data Rate. I understand that as Bluetooth should be on all M15x

 

* Rant: On * I officially hate dell support from india. They're not helpful, barely understands you, and not to mention freakin' rude. I've always talked to all customer service people in a nice and friendly tone but i noticed that the majority of cs people from out of the country, especially india, are downright rude. I called multiple times today just to get someone that is from america and EVERY SINGLE PERSON that picked up is from india. Gah!

 

When I was on the phone with tech support regarding the hdd noise, I asked about the bluetooth, since I didn't see mine in the device manager. He was already remotely connected to my computer at that point, so he downloaded the driver off the Dell site and tried to activate it. The driver installed, then said to activate by pressing the wireless button on the media touchpad, meaning the wireless button and the bluetooth button are one and the same. Problem was (he says) that the wireless was already activated, then he said that Windows permanently deactivates it, a known issue, from OS installation if a certain option is or isn't checked. Sorry if that last bit of info is spotty, it was 1 am last night when he was telling me this, and I wasn't about to start a fresh install on a possibly bad drive when I had to get up in 6 hours, lol.

 

hey shazzbozz have you been having any stuttering and sound issues with your blu ray playback ?

 

No issues on that front so far, knock on wood. Sorry to hear if you are though.

Hey guys I know I've asked a bunch of LCD questions already but I've got one more for you: For anyone that's seen the 900p screen and 1080p screen, how do they compare against one another? Is the 1080p significantly brighter or are they close? How about colors and viewing angles between the two?

I dont think he did much beyond just running Vantage with it .. Not sure if he monitored the temps but they should fine as the 280 is so close to the 260 really..

Would need some long term gaming though to really find signs of instability..

 

Ok my girlfriend wants an M15x..what's the deal with the promotion? When I put the system in the cart, it says 0 dollars for the headset/mouse but the invoice shows me being charged. Do they credit you later on? Also if you order via EPP, do you still get the discount? Because it doesn't show up in the checkout window for EPP.

I had a similar problem with my M1730, i found out I had a bad drive, you should run the Diagnostics from the Disc to see if there are any drive errors, that way you could rule out any HW errors

The symptoms I was having was Long Loads, Stuttering playback, erratic chapter skips, and more.

I was looking at hardware config for M15x and noticed that there is no 2nd HD option anymore. Does M15 no longer support dual HDs? I am looking at some sort of i7 laptop, but dual drives is pretty much a requirement for me.

 

yes the new M15x only has one hard drive bay

 

yes, M15x dont have dual drives, unless u got for M17x, but there dont have i7 their..

the reason i think they dont have dual drives for M15x is because its small, and there is no space, unlike M17x, bigger..

Hi I am having a very strange problem.
The enter key on my keyboard is by default being mapped to the numpad's enter key and hence I am unable to play many games.
I tried remapping using sharp keys but the games are not detecting this remap. It takes the original values.
I tried reformatting but still the problem is not resolved.
I run the a01 bios.
THE GAMES that I tried include NFS Shift ,NFS under cover and crysis.
In crysis , I can use the mouse , so I went to controller options and tried to assing the enter key to some function, It detects that enter key as numpad enter key.
In the NFS series , due to this problem , i am unable to get past the "Press Enter screen" which i am unable to!
What should I do?

4 types of dvd tried and only 1 burns and only at 2x
anybody got dvd's burning at full speed if so
which make. the ones i use that work are tdk 8x but only burn 2x

the joy of outsourcing... not only rude they are ignorant as well, i had to speak to one of em when the whole european order getting cancelled issue was going on. this guy just told me its still in production and before i could say anything i got tow lines... "is there anything i can help you with" and "session terminated"

 

havnt tried shift yet but undercover, when it says press enter, just click and it proceeds, then you can use the arrow keys to scroll up and down the menu and click. but be sure to use the laptop click buttons and not the mouse as when you use the arrow keys the pointer moves with the key pressed so u can just click on the desired function. but if you have a mouse you might move the pointer.

 

Rome32 Thanks for the advise. The game is working fine now.
But the problem shouldnt be there whith such a costly system.
Is the problem with only mine or all the systems?
Will replacing the keyboard unit alone solve this or is it bios related?

I figured as I am covered for that for 2 years plus complete care for accidental damages.

 

Rome82 I am sure its either a hardware fault or a keyboard fault as all the games detect that enter key as the numpad enter key.
I tried it on the external keyboard. It works only if you press the other enter key and not the numpad enter key.
So , such a problem can be resoved via bios update or should the keyboard be replaced?
Also the tip that you gave me worked fine in NFS undercover but not NFS Shift.
Its still stuck at the PRESS ENTER BUTTON.
Any other Ideas?
By the way, Did you complain about this to alienware? If yes what was their reply?

 

Ah I missed Dell's half arsed customer service! Ordered the M15x yesterday and today they had to cancel the order because surprise, no headset/mouse listed with the order! Been on hold and jumping back between reps for the last hour. Fun times.
