5150Joker....What made you jump to the M15x? I am still waiting on the Studio XPS16 and am getting tired of it. I saw you tried the Clevo. Can you give me some insight.

Darn even though I have already ordered last week there is a new promotion in Canada.

    http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/alienware_promo?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs

It's a nice discount. Talking to an agent now and will probably cancel my order and just order this one instead. Maybe upgrade the cpu.

Edit: Nevermind, the screen upgrade and blu-ray reader would make this cost more than what I bought my first one for. Still for prospective M15x buyers in Canada this is a great deal in my opinion, especially if you don't care about the screen or the blu-ray reader. If you order today the Agent told me the EDD will be Dec 15th. I'm in a bind because I will be leaving my town for a month on the 17th. I need the laptop before I leave so I don't want to cut it too close.

that promotion isnt actually all that good. If you configure the system normally you can get the same price, but you would have to opt for the 4GB 1333 Mhz memory rather than 6GB of 1066 memory. And honestly the 6GB of memory is overkill anyways. I'd rather they left the memory option open, so I could've gotten the 4GB at 1333 Mhz and paid an even lower price.

Yeah agreed. I looked at their final price and mine and thought it was a good deal, but after comparing that offer to what I got I'm def not cancelling my current order. I can always replace the HD and memory myself.

Sadly the person I chatted with kept saying my EDD of Dec 11 was probably going to be delayed til the 15th at least. I hope he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Finally, I got my baby! THe FedEX guy took all day to get it to me but I finally have it in front of me.

Initial thoughts and first impressions that went through my head as I opened the box:

    - Wow there are so many layers to the unboxing, feels really expensive. A grin fixates itself on my face.
    - This thing isn't that heavy! I can feel the bump of 85 WHr battery inside the felt cover. Very sturdy. No creaks of any kind
    - Used knowledge from watching a dozen unboxing videos to quickly peel away the plastic covers.
    - Wow this thing is big, I was expecting it to be big but it is still surprising. My old Dell Inspiron E1705 is no match for this juggernaut.
    - The finish is beautiful, smooth. Already I can see my smudgy finger prints on the black top cover.
    - Flipped it over to admire the steel tag with my gaming nick engraved on it. Not as big as I thought it'd be but the engraving is clear. I wonder how long it will last before it gets worn down.
    - The cover opens up smoothly, no flex at all. The hinge is just a little stiff, a good thing since there is no latch whatsoever. It snaps a little bit when you close it making a small thud.
    - Hitting the power button immediate lights up keyboard and other LEDs. I realize I am actually grinning even more than before. I feel like a kid. The wife agrees with me.
    - The fan roars to life as the B&W alienhead splash comes on. The roar immediately dies down and the system has been dead silent since.
    - Windows 7 finishes setting up in a couple minutes and tells me to setup a user. I discover what the hubub is about around the trackpad. It is going to be useless to me. The left/right buttons are too stiff and not springy enough, very hard to hold down for even a short period of time.
    - The screen is beautiful. I scrutinize every inch in search of dead pixels. Not one in sight.
    - Command center is buggy. Crashes numerous times. AlienTouch crashed while trying to apply changes.

    I am one very happy M15x owner. :D :D :D

First off, congrats! It must feel great to behind the wheel of an "All- Powerful". How many days did the whole process take for you... ordered to sitting on your desk? I feel like I'm checking my status ALL the time but I only ordered it last week XD.

    Nice x333! GZ!
I'm so jealous you got to engrave your nick on the steel thingy :p
We don't get that option here in Swe, and when I called em about it they didn't even have an excuse, just "that option is not available for Swedish customers".. -.- lame

    @Avengement:
    Ordered 11/05
    Delivered 11/24

I did the same thing while waiting. Even today the Fed EX guy delivered it at 8:30. Their advertised delivery time is 7am-8pm. It was a nailbiter all the way to the bitter (or sweet?) end.

@jonazdnb: Thanks! Sorry to hear they don't offer the engraving for you over there. I wonder why that is?

Same here jonaz... My Canadian rep told me " I have no idea why it is not offered". /shrug

Thanks for the info x333... if I'm in for the same 19 day wait I'll get it on the 5th. My rep initially said I'd have it on the 4th but my EDD is the 11th. The rep I spoke to today said my order might even be delayed til the 15th.. that worries me!

It's like engraving an ipod.. You can put whatever you want. You also get a special alien language that goes along with whatever you wrote.

I know the M15X sports a 15.6" but I'm wondering what is the actual height and length of the 1080p screen itself, I'm trying to get measurements so I can actually picture it on my desk and whether or not I should opt for the M17x.

Yup! Arrived this morning, I skipped class just to play with it. so far, im liking it much more than the m17. I put the SSD in it and it is very speedy, I'm about to run the windows experience test on it in a few minutes, I'll post back with the results.

    I bought a Kingston SSDNow V-Series 128GB SSD.

It should retail for $250, although it's more than that on Newegg.
You can easily find them for around $200 on eBay.
I managed to buy mine off eBay for only $175 shipped.

I wasn't really planning on buying one since I had always thought the ones worth buying were like $400-500, but when I realized I could get a 128GB SSD for under $200, I thought I'd give it a try seeing as how I saved a boatload of cash on the M15x from Dell anyways lol.

Also: Driver versions would be nice, let's get you two to compare them
