I'm kind of curious if it even delivers sound displayport-to-displayport. In that way, it's possible to check if it is just displayport-to-hdmi adapter that's the problem, or if it is an inherent alienware problem. I just don't have any displayport devices.

I'm kind of bummed out, because I can't get sound though my audio headset ports when the displayport to hdmi adapter is in, which is weird.

@Joker: Let me clarify what I meant. I've heard of some people having problems when using a displayport adapter to connect to their hdmi cables. However, the displayport to HDMI cables apparently work perfectly. Hope you're able to find a fix.

Seems like I misspoke. I have Displayport-to-HDMI cable, and not adapter. And it doesn't deliver sound.

how long does it take to deliver L.A? And is there really difference between 1066MHz ram with 1366MHz ram?

Woo hoo! Same day I received my 20% confirmation email from bing cashback, my M15x status just updated from processing to IN PRODUCTION!

Razu, not sure about shipping, traditionally dell either shipped from Memphis TN or Texas, TN takes 4 days via ups ground, Tx takes about 2 days via UPS ground (to Los Angeles) which is usually their shipping method of choice. I paid 39 bucks for 2 days shipping, didn't wanna pay the outrageous 69 bucks next day shipping, and I don't want the extensive throwing around free ground shipping, so I took the middle ground and paid the 39 bucks.

Hey JOKER, just a question out of curiosity, what stage was your order at when u cancelled? was reading up on dell support, they said once it shows IN PRODUCTIOn, cancellation is no longer allowed... interesting..dell seem to have changed their policy quite a bit since when I owned them long time ago.

I guess they are cranking these out. Mine just went from Order processing to Pre Production to In PRoduction all within a few hours worth of time.

Now....pain in the arse time of getting my bestbuy Asus G60vx prepped for return........

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me intruding quickly on the thread, but it seems this may be the place to get the most trustworthy answer about an m15x question from some owner's. My m9750 fried on Monday and is out of warranty, so I'm replacing it with the 15x. My main question is below, but if anyone wouldn't mind speccing it out if they think I'm bottlenecking somewhere, please let me know.

Is 8gb DDR3 (1066) just overkilling it? I want to keep this at $2700 which equates to $2500 with the promotion, so I'm mixing and matching. Personally, I think that the i7 820 and 6gb of DDR3 (1066) is much more balanced and I'll see more benefit from it. Do you guys agree? Also, is there somewhere in here that my system will have it's performance chopped that I can upgrade outside of RAM/Processing?

I'm going to order the laptop within a few hours, so if you're able to chime in, that'd be great.

    Thanks alot!

I installed 3dmark06, but the highest score I get is around 6200. I'm just using the out of the box default settings.

I have 0 experience with the program. Can anyone explain why I'm not getting the around 11000 as others do. Don't know if it is because I'm using win7 x64 bit, or if I need to change some settings.

What?... even if its out of the box setting you should get at least 10k. Are you sure you weren't in stealth mode at that time?

Like many before you. Try to disable "Stealth mode" a power-saving option on the M15x. It's the Ufo-button and easily operated.

Stick with 4g's of RAM and get yourself a SSD. Most people dont realize that with current processors and ram speeds your real bottleneck now is your hard drive. Get the SSD and you'll see just how much faster it really is.

I just checked and my went from order processing to in production. If they build alienware as fast as they build their other laptop it takes about 8-10 days. My last order last month was placed on the 13th and i got it on the 22nd. That is how long it took most of the stuff i order from dell to get to California. Last time I received notice that it was shipped on a Wednesday and will arrive on Friday but it arrived on Thursday so it also came 1 day early. But if you guys every order a build pc from hp shipping takes awhile cause it gets shipped from china. Dell stuff isn't marked build in the US but it gets shipping from the US?

An Alienware laptop should take 2-3 weeks to receive if you live in the US, whether or not it takes longer to get to Canada, I don't know.

I was wondering, how much it would cost an alienware M15x on the AAFES site with this build:
    Intel i7 820QM
    gtx 260m
    4gb ddr3 @ 1067mhz
    1920x1080 LED screen
    9 cell battery
And is the 820QM worth it or I can stick with the 720QM and be happy with it? I'm probably gonna use this laptop for gaming and some graphic editing.

Highly doubt that, my order was pretty standard, just the 1g nvidia and 320 gb hd, I called in on the 23rd, when i went to check my order the EDD came out 12/16, when i tried to redo my config to match prices ect, earlier today, the EDD came out 12/14( that doesn't even make sense 2 days less compared to the order that i made a week ago) and to make it worse, my epp rep charged me $100 extra on my config.

Someone above said their order been in production for 12 days... another guy said he ordered on the 25th and shipped out on the 29th, in absence of knowing their full configuation, that's why I guessed the 8 days difference might have been contributed by certain parts they chose. That said, its just assumption on my part.

That's also strange for u, hmm call in to cancel they might waive the 100 :D

I will unless i get an discount of $200 or more, the rep told me i would get a 'free' set of headphones and mouse, guess he lied and charged me for it, can't wait to call them tomorrow. If i order online i would get 2 days less on the EDD anyway.

True...they would say anything to make their sale and quota. Question, I check the dell support page says you can only cxl if its processing or pre production. if it goes IN PRODUCTION cxl is impossible, any experience on that?

The only time Dell allows cancellations is if you want to upgrade a component. As for goodies, check out an unboxing video on YouTube. The packaging is very nice.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to what I should do? Seems like people's orders are shipping out fairly quickly while mine has been "In Production" since I ordered it 12 days ago. I'll call customer service tomorrow when they're open but do I have any other options? My EDD was Dec 11 so I guess I can't really complain can I.

Its possible, but most are just trained to say you can't, I'll just say something like ' I was overcharged on my dell order, and unless i get an deduction I will call my credit card company an ask for a charge back for being cheated' and purchase a laptop somewhere else ect..

Since the displayport to hdmi adapter didn't work, I requested an RMA from monoprice and bought this instead:

6013 DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male 28AWG Cable (Gold Plated Connectors) - 15ft

Hopefully that solves the problem with no audio over hdmi.

Well ordered mine about a week ago still waiting for damn financing to be approved...

question... does anyone know if it would technically be possible to rip out the guts of the cdrom drive and put a hdd there? Is the cdrom hooked up by sata/ata connector??

if I could have my 256gb crucial ssd + 1tb 2.5" laptop hdd all in one laptop it will be a dream come true :D

    thanks

@Joker... I'm sorry if you've already done this but this was in a different thread.. kudos to Etown: right click volume on bottom right of desktop then select playback options then right click hdmi and select set as default device

Otherwise I'll be just as screwed as you are when I get mine.
