Wow all the 12 days.. 14 days.. 100 years in production and awaiting financial approval...wonder what's the payment method you guys used. I was thinking about using my own credit card, but decided it's probably easier for them if I just use my DPA credit line and also get the no interest financing....

For you guys that have been waiting in production for long time what's ur spec? wonder if u have any "spcial" item that might be popular and on back order like upgraded cpu 820 or 920... or blue ray drive? or might even be the 1920 x 1080 LED or the 1333 mhz ram....just curious and trying to do detective work here myself

Hey Panda u and I have same rig now so its probably right to ask u. G60 has weaker cpu gut GTX 260, M15x has stronger cpu but also GTX 260. Right now I play MW2 on my desktop with ATI 5870 at 1920 x 1080 with highest setting and get good FPS. With my G60's low resolution 1366 x 768, GTX 260m handles it max and has good FPS.

I wonder how much frame rate M15x would suffer with same video card as my G60 but will be at 1600 x 900 on MW2 now, or would cpu help push the video card some to make up for the gap?

Used my DPA account for the 12 month zero interest. The only upgrade on a base M15x was the video card.

If there is so much as a single speck of dust on it when I get this laptop, I'm going to box it up a ship it back the same day and give buisness to another seller. I should add that I have an Alienware Desktop I purchased last year and it was at my front door within 10 days of ordering it. My opinion of Alienware at that time was fantastic. My opinion now of them now is considerably less....

There simply is no excuse for 14 day's "in production" (with no word on a delay) when folks are getting them delivered in that time frame.

Get ready to pay 15% restock when you find your speck of dust. However, they will offer you up to $200.00 not to return it. 14 days in production during the Holidays is not uncommon, in fact they just closed the Dell plant where I live, and this was one of the plants that make Alienware PCs and Lappys. Dude, chill out.

A 15% threat is not going to make me keep a laptop. There are a ton of other laptop sellers out there....

 

I wouldn't worry about it because some parts may not be as readily available as others, as long as you get your Bing Cashback right?

 

Uh, doubt it... the higher resolution screen is pushing 37% more pixels, and it is the GPU doing most of the work, not the CPU. I'm playing through Cod4 Modern Warfare 1 for the first time (on Veteran, good fun), and I have to disable AA @ 1920x1200 to get above 30FPS (consistently), though I still dip into the 20s on occasion.

But if you turn off AA you should get similarly playable framerates. I don't understand why you are not utilizing your desktop for games... sell me your 5870 if you're not going to use it!

 

How much for 5870?

 

If I'm not mistaken I have 30 days from when I receive the laptop to return for whatever reason. Not that I plan to, but potentially getting 200 back is tempting...

 

Anyone got any ideas what's the best 1333 ram for the M15x? I'm ordering mine with the bare minimum ram because I plan to max it out very soon after gettting it.

 

Get 4GB. You don't even need anymore than that for gaming on the M15x imo.

 

Keep in mind the G60vx also has an underclocked GPU so it's not exactly apples to apples when comparing the 260M. The CPU has made a big difference in the games I've played vs. the gf's G60 sitting next to me. Speaking of which, the G60 is going back tomorrow now that she's got her own AW on the way.

 

Bing cashback definitely makes it worth it...

 

You do have 30 days to return it and being someone who has been buying from dell for over 10 years...their return standard used to be pretty lax, if u don't like it, return it no restocking fee. However lately they have been more strict and charging restocking fee even for refurbished system, not just to me but to others as well. Of course nothing is finite, and hope it work out for you, just don't be too shocked if they charge u 15% restocking fee if you request return.

True, I did forget about that, the underclock issue. How are u going to avoid the restocking fee for G60?

I'll make something up I guess. If they don't buy it, I'll go to a diff BB and keep trying until one of them returns it. If all else fails, I'll sell it on the forum for $1000.

 

Which BB u gonna try? try to use the wireless problem, it seems to be the most prevalent issue with this computer. One of my buddy had two G60 with wireless problems.

You would need a caddy to hold the drive and an interface to the port. Beyond that to get to the drive you need to remove

If you are talking about literally taking apart the optical drive, no. That would not work.

It is not a threat, it is reality. I have spent over $10,000 with Dell in the last year. I told them this, they were still going to charge me the 15%. You should still call them and request a return, they will ask you if $100 back will help you keep it, push the issue and say no, then they will offer you $200.00 (that is the max). $200 for 15 minutes of your time, that should sooth you and your speck of dust...

BTW, I wanted to return mine because the bottom cover was cracked. They replaced it, although it took 6 weeks. Dell support is not like it used to be 12 years ago...... I worked for a company that had all Dell, the warranties were coming up on our 17" Sony/Dell CRT monitors. So I called Dell and told them they were all dim, the next day a pallet of 20 brand new monitors and RMA's for the old ones was on the loading dock. You cannot beat that. Oh, the good old days...

I hear ya! We've been a Dell shop for the past 11 years and sometimes it really gets depressing on how they "used to be". We lost a backup servers motherboard/scsi blade 3 days after installing it and they had one overnighted the same day. That was six years ago... sigh. Getting replacement parts now is a song and dance with an onsite visit from a tech that has trouble finding the parking lot let alone the issue I point out to him!

We are now on day 15 of "in production". If it's not shipped by mid-week, I'll call and cancel and dance the 200 dollar dance with them.

I was thinking to upgrade the screen, not a big deal but if I could it was good, so I called in to cancel and re order/upgrade component. The rep said my order's in production and locked down impossible to cancel the only thing is to request return once I receive it, what a bummer.

 

Not true, I called just now and was told I can cancel my previous order as soon as i rebuilt a new order online, just told her my new Dell ID, wait for it to process and done. Canceled previous order and a new order on the way, it usually takes a few hours before the new order is processed for dell to check on so just call them later, or tell them have someone call you.

 

In M15x, does the audio ports support SPDIF optical cable(3.5 mm to Toslink) ??

well, it's actually pretty nice, its got a massive walk in wardrobe where I stash some of my stuff including my racing bike, and I can lock it up (it's worth more than my alienware.)
oh well, im only 15 anyway, and a 6x6m room is pretty large (36m squared!!! :O)

 

Well my order has apparently shipped after being in production for 12 days. I only know this because I called a customer service rep who told me the order had just shipped this morning. Since Canadians don't get the choice of shipping options I'm going to have to wait the 5 buisiness days. Hopefully it gets here Friday instead of Monday but at least it is on it's way.

 

I just got an email back from permier account rep saying he can not quote the m15 under the DEPP. Sounds like BS to me. How does the Bing.com work? I could not find it on there site
