Well sorry guys i just spoke with tech support about later upgrading the graphics card to the GTX280M or even the ATI card the M17x uses and was informed that due to power constraints the M15x as is will not be able to support anything greater then the GTX 260M. So I'm going to have to shoot for a M17x later down the road.

Congrad! which day did u order? just trying to get a feel for when mine might ship
-
BS i forget who did it, but back at the begining of this thread or part one, someone installed a 280m into his M15x and it worked fine..
-
Sleey0 installed a 280mGTX a couple hours after he got the M15x and ran benchmarks etc ... Everything was fine
..
-
Haha and you believed it?
-
Is it still continueing to run fine?

As I've repeatedly stated, there is no power limitation with the M15x. -
Thats the major reason i love my M15x is that it is totally upgradable
-
ahh dam you Joker, you have slowly converted ASUS members, i think i mite be a victim...the M15x is looking more and more appealing as i see it. dam that is one freakin nice notebook
i dun have it
watched vek2001glm unboxing vid, put me over the edge on how it can be that perfection exists in a laptop. -

Not on my watch you won't, SACH7002. I'm not going to let you fall to the dark side. Just remember, the M15x looks like a George Foreman grill with the lights off.

I like to think I converted Joker lol...
The Bing Cashback makes this a deal. -
Finally got a call back from the sales rep. I think I got him to replace the entire laptop and throw in $200 for my troubles. He is going to call me to confirm he can do it tomorrow.
-
Nice vid vek. Look forward to hearing about the performance gains. -
is this bing cash back available in Canada, or is it US only?
-
Sorry but I converted myself (although I was always a Dell performance laptop user [xps 2, xps 16, xps m1710]). But I do remember you talking about how much you liked AW.
US only. -
Fixed.
Now is the best time to grab an M15x with the bing 20% cashback + 3% dell DPA. I configured my new system with a 256 gb ssd and 2 yrs warranty + complete care and it cost $150 less than my current configuration! Plus you know how picky I am, if the M15x sucked, I'd have blasted it just like I did the G51. So far the only flaws I've found are minor ones: edge to edge cover that is prone to dust trapping during the factory build stage, power connector size and placement is terrible (should've been on the back or at least a small profile one). I didn't list HDD clicking because that is a seagate issue, not dell and mine doesn't have it. The pros on this laptop FAR outweigh the minor cons. Best of all, you won't need earplugs to use the laptop unlike some brands out there..

can anyone with 4gb ddr3 1333mhz mind sharing their window experience point? Thank you!!!
-
well for starters my primary hard disk subscore jumped up 15 points, and my overall windows experience base score jumped 9 points.
i'll let you know more when i get it. thanks
-
Well I pulled the trigger this afternoon. Ended up getting the $50 gift card + $200 discount + my EPP discount + free next day shipping...and supposedly when I called back to have the order associated with my Dell.com account they said they are going to contact the production manager and try and have the order expedited...not sure why they said that but it might be because I used an internal number to get to Dell.
The system is pretty much tricked out with...well everything but the BR burner. I have no need for it right now.
At any rate this is going to be a hell of an upgrade to my Gateway 12" tablet PC @ 1.2Ghz C2D ULV, with 128MB VRAM with craptacular Intel Graphics. I sold my MBP last fall with the intention of getting something new by Feb....didn't happen and have been suffering on this thing for a year. First thing I'm doing is nuking everything and loading Windows 7 Ultimate, second thing is playing L4D2...... can haz zombies? -
sometimes the dark side is the right choice. i dont think their is any denying that now. if i can manage to get maybe 1250USD for my G51, i mite think about it. it really is a tough decision tho, as much as i like the m15x, there are some things i still like on my G51. ofc. if i was a strong hater of the G51 (the screen, temps) i would've bought the m15x long ago but rite now i have no problems with mine. maybe the only cons rite now is fear that GPU mite die tho warranty should fix it, and these darn stringy particles flying into the top of my notebook (above keyboard), rite where the speakers/powerbutton/touchbuttons are located, its driving me nuts how everything else is so clean except for that part.
btw did u mean singular [brand] = clevo? cuz i dont have any noise issues with my G51, but you never know, your ears mite be MUCH MORE sensitive than mine. -
Hello everyone, I've been following this thread for the past few days and I would like to say thanks! It really helped me decide to go for the M15x and my order was just placed now. This is what I ordered:
Special Edition Nebula Red
CPU Core i7 820QM
GTX 260M
Wide HD+ 1600 x 900 WLED
4 GB @ 1333MHz
500GB HD @ 7200
9-Cell Battery
DVD RW
With the DPA 3%, Bing.com 20% and $200 off this was the best time to buy the M15x. I'm really excited, my last laptop was the 13inch Dell XPS M1210. The little guy helped alot during college, but now as a hopeful grad student the M15x can suit my studying and of course gaming needs! -
Nice vid vek

Gimme your old hd plox.
-
No sell it to meeee! Unless its a clicker as well
.
Nice to see you on the bandwagon Miz... the more the merrier! -
This is weird. The alien on the front was pulsing when in sleep mode earlier but now is staying lit. I tried shutting down etc but it is still staying lit. Any ideas?
Agree with you joker about the ac plug, what were they thinking... Way too big and wobbly. -
thanks roxy, ... as for that old HDD it really doesnt click that bad. that was the second HDD i got from dell the original i'll be sending back tomorrow. so yeah i guess i do have a HDD for sell. lol
-
the HDD that I have does not click nearly as much as the original HDD. I actually think most of the small sounds coming from it is very normal. but i do think my original was a lemon. it really sucked.

If you run an SSD with the HD as a secondary, your computer becomes SILENT (if your fan is on lowest). -
yeah, my SSD is silent,...but you can only have one HDD or SDD in the m15x so what do you mean by putting the HD as secondary ?
-
i think panda mite be confused since his G60 has two HDD slots while most 15"/16" laptops dont.
-
Hey guys i got the Qusmio x505 and i want to know about how to make the processor overclock itself, also can you overclock it to stay at 2.8 now that would be amazing but with the heating it will be an issue i can tell.
-
Does anyone know this ssd drive any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m_re=ssd_kingston_64gb-_-20-139-006-_-Product
Is it better then our 320gb 7200rpm hard drive? -
i believe kevblah has a ssd similar to that, his is the 128gb SSD. heres the link to his video for it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DzawNlPxyc -
hey vek can you tell me your window experience point after you change to your ssd drive? Also your ram window experience point?
-
Yup, I have the 128GB version of that drive in my M15x right now, and it performs great. Definitely faster boot times and slightly faster load times in video games. I really feel the difference when I'm loading programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver, which usually take a long time to load. With the SSD, those programs load up much faster.
-
my overall windows experience score is a 6.8 and my ram score is a 7.2, whats your scores dttran ?
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Well that sucks. I'll probably wait for the 160gb Intel drives to come down in price, use my 80gb in the SFF and a 7200 drive in the M15x. -
Well I went ahead and broke down and ordered. I ordered the bare minimum system but upgraded to the 1080p screen for $1399+tax. I ordered it this way because I plan on doing periodical updates about every 2 weeks. First I'll buy another 3gigs of ram giving me 6gigs total, then I'm saving for a GTX 280M. I didn't see the point in paying for the GTX 260M when I knew I was gonna shoot for the 280 later. Lastly I'll upgrade the CPU and battery but only if I really see the need to around tax time. I had to order online because after 4 calls to Dell and 4 hours of on hold time, technical issues with their website, refusal to give me the price I was quoted online the whole experience so far has been a total nightmare. Now I'm waiting on the 24 hours billing to make sure it goes through. If all goes well I was quoted to recieve it no later than 12/18.
-
i agree, the solid state drives are lightning fast. there silent and they run cooler then the HDD's. i would highly recommend getting one if you have the money.
-
my lowest score is my hardrive which is 5.9 but my ram is 7.5.
-
how much ram you got ?
-
The M15x only has 2 memory slots, so it will come with 1x1GB and 1x2GB, so the only way you're going to be able to get it to 6GB is by buying 1x4GB and replacing the 1GB with it.
-
Well I asked one of the CSR's about that and was told that the 3gigs it comes with is on 1 stick.
-
lol just use 4gb ram, that is enough for the casual user/gamer, unless ur heavy on adobe/CAD stuff.
and btw, i dont think 3gb RAM sticks exist since all these are based on bits, powers of base 2. (2gb x 1024MB/GB= 2048MB x 1024^2 B/MB= 2147483648 B x 8 bits/byte= 17179869184 bits)
as in, it goes from 2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256-512-1024 (1gb stick)-2048 (2gb stick)-4096 (4gb stick) -
Yeah, that's definitely not possible. Your best bet is just to buy a 2GB stick of ram, so in total you have 4GB, which is plenty for the majority of users. If anything, your 3GB might even be enough.
-
Well in any case 2x2gig sticks is fairly cheap so no worries. I was just under a really tight budget so I had to get what I could. Also I'll probably update to a SSD before the GTX 280M just to give more time for either a better card to come out or for the price to drop a little. Also I noticed there are 3 different 1333 PC3 types for laptops, anyone know which the M15x uses?
-
I got 4gb of ram, but the ram are after market not from dell.
-
Sorry for asking since Im not an M15x owner, but wish to be soon.... I thought the highest performance gpu they offered was gtx 260m?? How are you planning on getting gtx 280m? will it work? was this tested? any problems, bios and etc?
Thank You in advance -
Yes the GTX 260M is the highest performance GPU "offered". The GTX 280M will and does work, you can either order it seperately from Dell or some third party vendor. It's something you really have to ask for, it's not something offered on websites.

Guys I recieved my m15x last friday and have only started playing around with it. My specs are:
i7 820
4gb ram 1333mhz
500gb
GTX 260
1080 screen
windows vista ultimate
My windows experience index is 5.8 and the scores were all 5.8 including RAM, processor, gaming and hard drive.
I thought i was in stealth mode, so i did it 3 times alternating between modes and the WEI the scores stayed the same all 5.8, does that mean i should get my laptop exchanged? or is it just a driver/firmware fix?
Need desperate help -
