Hey Joker, so for normal usage, normal game and stuff, what your test revealed doesn't impede that right? from what u typed sounds like when u try to OC it only for now.

Guys. You have all been talking about the 280M. However

    http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/m15x.html

suggests that the system would overheat like mad.

    I quote

Now granted this model was the previous version however the fan config looks identical, so I can't imagine the thermal properties of the newer m15x would be all the different.

PS- Why oh why didn't Dell rename the model after the i7 upgrade. Google searches are a royal pain even with m15x and i7 in the searches. Get people complaining WAAHHHH I want an i7 in my m15x.

it should have been m15i or something, IMHO.

That article has zero relevance to the current M15x. The cooling system is redesigned and is VERY efficient, in fact it's one of the best on the market.

How so? Seriously. Both are using Independent fans and heatsinks in both models for CPU/GPU cooling.

    Seriously. Old

    http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i247/packer445/DSC01115.jpg

    New

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=41453&stc=1&d=1259736351

Other then using an extra pipe to move heat away I'm not seeing a huge difference.

I guess the question is has this actually been done. Don't get me wrong. I WANT it to work. If it does it gives us all an upgrade path. I'm just a bit skeptical is all.

Looks like a redesign to me, I'm not sure what your definition of one is but these two designs are not related at all. The current M15x barely tops out at 71-72C under load with the stock 260M GTX clocks. A 280M GTX would at most raise it by a few degrees. I've linked back to a poster that has a 280M in his system. You're comparing apples and oranges.

I need your helps guys :(

My m15x on sound is sort of stuttering the volume seems to go up and down a little bit and isnt very clear. I have tried a few different speakers also with no luck.

I unistalled the driver and just tryed using the windows one but that just causes poping like the processing is catching up to its self for a second when a website loads.

I rung Dell and they didnt help me what so ever he said he can arrange a call back in a week to try and find the problem :(

Do you guys know of anything?

Any help would make me so grateful as I spent so long waiting for this just the have it have problems straight away. Or this is going back to Dell.

    Thanks :(

Count me in too. I am found that problem since the day one. Jerky and popping sound. I have no idea how to fix it. A factory restore might help. It seems to be some kind of conflict between driver files. For example, If you run any games that uses its own audio accelerator ( I don't know what its called. ) Upon quitting the game you can start hearing the popping sound.

Are you sure your DisplayPort can output audio? I was under the impression that Audio is not supported in many Display Port laptops.

I have tried one thing that I think might have helped maybe you could test it to.

Under control panel under IDT driver settings try disabling the SRS premium sound(or its something like that), its the little green light just above the headphone setting on the right hand side.

I think that might have helped but im not sure if now im being paranoid

let us know how you go

Want a real performance boost? Use a SB X-Fi card. It pulls precious processor power from the on-board (crappy) sound. I played COD:MW2 without the X-Fi last nite, laggy.

I tried it but it didn't work at all...

However I find the way to shut down my computer.
To the power button action, I change [Shut down] and replace by [Hibernate] so now when I want to shut down I have to clic on the arrow and chose Shut down.
It's a bit stupid but it work ...

For you Canadians who have already gotten your orders did you use the Purolator tracking feature? Mine has the initial line of "Transit in the US" but it's been like that since it shipped 2 days ago and theres been no further updates. Will calling the number give me more detailed information?

    That might be Powermizer. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276

Download, install, run it, and turn off Powermizer, restart and see if you have the problem.

If that solves it, manually downclock your card on Desktop or your card will run hot.

It can transmit audio through the Displayport, quite well I might add. You must make sure that the DP is set as your default audio device in Windows. My laptop sends perfect picture and sound, I actually have to turn my TV way down, lol.

    Quick update:

I ran the same prime95+furmark test again last night except I made the furmark test also include post processing. I used STOCK GPU clocks with that test and it also throttled! That means when a very high load is placed on the system at stock clocks, it will throttle.

How much faster is the dual 4870?

Mine was ordered with the Crossfire solution but they were faulty/replaced by SLI 280m's. The original owner says that I may be able to swap back now that the problems seem to be sorted. Is it worth the trouble?

You're in the wrong thread lewdvig. But to answer your question, the 4870 isn't any faster than a 280 SLI in games. It does better in 3dmark (synthetic) benchmarks.

Battery tests won't work since it automatically defaults to 3D clocks (383/301) even with high performance profile set to use 100% GPU power under battery.

How does M15x handle when you connect it to an external monitor? What mode do you use when you connect (Clone it with laptop monitor or just the TV) the laptop to an external monitor using the display port?
