You can use single mode, clone or extended. I use single mode though.

Wrong forum, this is the M15x forum...
-
Does that put less load on 260M compared to clone or extended?
-
I have found that my system runs faster when connected thru a DL cable to DVI. Playing it with the laptop screen I experience lag that I do not get when I am on my bigger monitor...
-
yeah same goes for mine as well. shipped on monday and it's been on the same status since then (ordered it to calgary btw, on november 15th). My guess is that since our cities are pretty close to the border, most part of the transit actually happens in the US, not sure though.
-
Please excuse me for my noobie question. I know what a DVI is but whats DL cable?
Is it Data Link?? How does it look like? -

You should disable Powermizer and test it then. My G60 is able to run full clocks (GPU & CPU) on battery - not that I have tried to game on it, but the battery has drained on me like crazy if I forget to turn down the clocks. -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
If you try to run games with more than 1 monitor enabled, you will be seriously hampered (frame rates). -
I use a DP->HDMI adapter found at Monoprice. Works great.
-
I've set powermizer to be off using the switch and confirmed it by checking the registry but it still does not get passed 3D clocks. -
Which TV? My plasma doesn't work with it and I think we're both using the same adapter. When I checked my TV's status it recognized the connection as DVI so that explains why I didn't have any sound. -
no, they say it is shipped by land in the US and to allow 3-4 days for transport and customs clearance -- 3-4 business days, not including Saturdays, Sundays or vacation days. Oncce its in Canada, the tracking site updates with each exchange, shipping to terminal, shipping to local depot, on the truck etc.
They are polite but unable to add anything beyond what is posted when you call. -
Well im dropping out of the Alienware ranks. Im sending mine back to Dell next week and getting a refund.
No laptop out of the box should cause this problem with the sound. I know that sometimes you need to just update and I tried that with no luck. I did the tech support thing and got now where. They will send someone over next week to pick it up and organize the refund.
I thought this was going to be a great experience but I was wrong
Good luck all -

What problem with sound? -
@ Igsshedden:
Ya I have no problem waiting, news is coming up that big things are going to happen at CES 2010 (Jan 7-10), so for me who's not in dire need of a notebook, it fits perfectly into my schedule. Fudzilla has reported that Mobility 5000 series will be announced during that time, so I'll see what comes up. -
In case anyone wants to know how my order experince went.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=439609 -
The sound volume sort of goes up and down ever slightly, also it will randomly pop or like its still processing while loading a web page.
I tried uninstalling the driver from control panel, reset, install the new one, reset but the volume still goes up a down a lil during music.
I tried just using the default windows driver which fixes the volume problem, but the pop is still there every few minutes. Seems to happen more when multitasking.
I tried the powermizer thing but I not the best with a registry so i tried that program with no avail.
-
I live in Calgary when not in school. I got a phone call from purolater today saying that the laptop would be here tomorrow. I checked online and it was on its way from Purolators Calgary Depot so yours will probably get to you this week too!
-
Did you try the alienware respawn? -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
The pop is Powermizer throttling. You can fix it by disabling Powermizer. Otherwise, you can return your Laptop. My Asus G60vx does the same thing. You would have ended up returning that too.
In fact, I'm almost positive that almost all Windows 7, GTX 260M, Powermizer enables laptops are prone to this.
Personally, I hope Nvidia and MIcrosoft lose a load of money from people returning their crappy products and drivers. Not everyone is able to diagnose and jerry-fix their brand new purchases, and you shouldn't have to. -
whats up everybody, just thought i'd let you know whats going on with my lcd...well, a couple days ago i noticed a dead pixel on the left side of my lcd and it has really been bugging me. i first talked to tech support and they basically told me there was nothing they could do being that the dead pixel was not in the center of the screen. but that didn't stop me.
i just now got off the phone with customer care and told them about the issue and i will now be receiving a new m15x in about 7 days with free next day shipping. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed on this one, i really hope i dont have any issues with the new one ... i still have my current m15x, so i wont be bored in the waiting process.
just wanted to keep you guys updated. ill let you know the status when i receive the new one.

So when powermizer is on it throttles the gpu to lower clock speeds? Is that right?
And when it's off everything runs better and no pop?
sorry for the noob question -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
No, it throttles clocks both up and down depending on what is needed.
Disabling Powermizer and manually controlling your clocks will solve your problem if your problem is indeed caused by powermizer. -
so when powermizer is off the gpu runs at max? And not have the gpu going up and down in speed?
Is that right
?
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Powermizer disabled = your GPU runs at the settings you choose. It will not change regardless of power settings, battery power, a game running, or doing nothing. You can set your GPU overclocked sky high all day, or down to 200/200/200. -

By the way, aren't any of you M15x owners at all curious to see if your brand new system is not exactly "All that powerful" at all, but more like power starved and defective?
Please run these simple benchmarks and report as Joker has done:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=439546 -
Ok makes more sense now thanks
lastly once i turn it off with that program how do I manually change the clock speeds?
Thanks again you have been nice and patient
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Read about overclocking your GPU here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=401345
^ (That's an Asus thread but its applicable to all Nvidia owners).
Overclocking and Underclocking is the same procedure. It just means you're setting your clocks manually. -
Do you think installing vista would help the problem?
Is this more a windows 7 problem? -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I don't know. I had no problems with Vista 64 in my Gateway 7805u (9800M GTS).
-
Hope you'r right
! i've just checked though and mine is still in transit in the US, what time of the day (Monday right?) did yours get shipped ?
-
I phoned dell at around 8am your time on monday morning and it had been shipped. Took until about noone to show up online.
-
Hmmm could be worth a shot maybe cause there's nothing really that
much different between vista an 7 -
Thanks guys! I was kind of overworked today at the office and took a break to post here. I must have been really wiped because I posted in this M15x thread and the specs in my sig which I updated at the same time included the highly desirable non-existent 290m GTX card. LOL
Cheers!

Graphics card installed in the M15x, built into the motherboard or implemented as a separate block?
Coming soon mobile Radeon 58xx, can get just replace the video card ... -
Can someone, please, post Your laptop display parameters:
15.6-inch 1080p (1920x1080) display with LED backlighting
I want to know who manufactures it?
And what is display model number so i can find corresponding manufacturer specification PDF. -
search this thread
its a LG and the model is in this thread somewhere for both resolutions -
MONITOR\LGD020B for the 1900 x1080
-
actually no: I am more concerned with how it operates in day to day use with the programs I run, rather than arbitrary benchmarks. But if you have fun doing the analysis, then I am happy to read and enjoy your findings. Meanwhile, the laptop appears "All powerful" compared to anything else I have used: not perfect, but then none of us are!
-
I have it at the arrow keys as well. Sucks.
I did set DP as default, and still no sound coming out of my tv. Even if I plug sound in through jack, I get no sound. -
Any recommendation on virus software for window 7?
-
I have tried much and many, but many people have many different preferences.
I, however, find AVG to be the least obtrusive and overall best. I hardly even notice I have it. And it's a very good program. But if a virus or other malware should get through, Malwarebytes antimalware is the all and omega to remove it!!!
Both are freeware, but I can't recommend Malwarebytes antimalware enough. Having downloaded lots of dodgy keygens and crackz, this sucker has saved my behind much and many times. Easy and super super efficient.
Edit: Though it is very OT, and can derail this thread fast. So please start another thread. -
My last HD was filled with virus/trojans, I've yet to see one trojan/adware come up my malware bytes/super anti ever since I started using no-script ad blocker(download it at the firefox add-on site) with firefox, just don't download anything from a blog site or untrusted to be sure. I do virus scans monthly usually and nothing ever comes up ever since i used it, be sure to get an anti virus software such as avast/norton to be sure.
You can even watch pr0n freely without having to worry about pop-up/viruses
-
Just a Vizio 32 inch, 1080i model. It runs at 1366x768 res though, so you have to change some settings in Nvidia CP (like desktop size and add custom res), but after that it looks and sounds awesome.
Yes, my next purchase will be a 1080p television
-
Thank for the info!!

AVG! IT is free and it is the best (PC World) http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,15202-page,1/description.html

Does a 3.5 mm Toslink cable work with the audio ports of M15x ??
I read the M15x manual and could not find anything about Toslink support for audio. -
I just went an purchased an intel 80 gb g2 for 250 bux, hope i get it next week
the site I got it at had 5 in stock, 3 after i finished ~.~
-
Well it took 3 weeks but I am finally among the ranks of you M15x owners! I'm not going to repeat what everyone else has said but I will say this... Wow this machine is beautiful. I noticed the flex on the keyboard in the bottom right corner near the arrow keys, but that doesn't seem to be a big issue. I'm in class atm but I can't wait to fire up Warcraft and see how great the game looks.
PS - Both times I've started up my machine so far the right fan has turned on full blast for about 2 seconds. After that the system is silent. I remember someone mentioning that but I cannot remember if it is a problem or not. -
I agree, AVG + Malwarebytes = awesome computer defense.
