I didnt mean 3 hrs on a Sager I meant roughly 3 hrs with a 9 cell and M15x. You have to tweak the settings a bit to get between 2:45 and 3 but its possible if your not running anything too intensive. I used the command center power settings to change the settings for power saving mode there is few things you can cut back from the default settings that will retain functionality for word processing and web browsing ect. I find that the moderate setting gets great battery life and is powerful enough for videos and light gaming. Unfortunatly the command center utilities create other problems so I would recommend using windows power options and not using command center for anything but changing your lights. The review for the sager is right on the nbr homepage.

Yea...260m is 112 processor vs 280m 128...to me its pretty minor...just turn down that AA slightly. But for command center, I have never owned an Alienware so will have to see :D I like Window 7's power options. Sager with 1 hour battery life.. wonder what's inside.....probably one of those laptop that use desktop components..

anyone with ssd drive tell me what there boot up time are? I got an intel X25-M and my boot up time seem slower than my 320gb @ 7200rpm. My game and application boot up really fast thought.

Probably the only thing stopping me buying an M15x = http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/acatalog/Comanche.html

Jesus, £1800, and you get a desktop 920m CPU  (not to mention GTX 280)

I guess, if it wasn't for the chassis not being how I would prefer it to be (like say, M15x/17x/etc looks/build quality - although this chassis delivers on cooling) I would have already purchased this...

Explain to me how this is a good deal:

    1,799.00 GBP

    =

    2,963.60 USD
United Kingdom Pounds United States Dollars
    1 GBP = 1.64736 USD 1 USD = 0.607032 GBP

    $3000?

I think he means for those in the UK. Upgrading the M15x to 920 costs £890 and this means the system is over £2000 without even upgrading the memory or GPU. So £1800 for a system with a 280 gpu and 920 cpu is a good deal.

In comparison to US - UK everything is more expensive, so you can't directly compare to US :p . In the UK, a base M15x (no 1080p, 3gb ram, 250gb HDD, NVIDIA 240) costs around $2000  charging £120 to get it to GTX 260M, around £40 to get 4GB RAM, £80 to get 1080 screen totalling $2370 aprox, for an M15x with 720M, 260 GPU, 250gb HDD, 4GB RAM, 1080p screen.

being in the UK right now...from the US...I am noticing people here pay SO MUCH for computers. I mean...holy cow they have to cough up tons of $$$ for a computer system of any sort. My friend here thought for 1,000 euro he got a great deal on a laptop where I spent the same amount and got the M15x which smokes his weak system.

"Ummmm ahhhh errrrr welllllll, it's pretty cool errr ummm". There I just summed up that whole "review" now everyone knows what to expect. Really that's why I hate YouTube reviews because more than half the time it's just someone who loves the sound of their own voice and hasn't put two brain cells worth of thought into what they're even going to say. Then there are the ones that put "M15x Review!!!" and never say anything at all. *sigh* Now my head hurts......thanks.

I read somewhere in this thread that some changed a setting in the Nvidia CP called "Conformant Texture Clamp" from "Hardware" to "OpenGL" ad he got increased performance. I cannot find this setting anywhere, can someone tell me where it is?

Is there any difference (in terms of who is manufacturing it and build etc) If I was to make an order from the US site, rather than the UK?

Also, how would the warranty thing work if I was to purchase one from the US?

Lastly, are there any good methods people know, of which I could reroute an order from the US to the UK?

(reasons for this is, a) it is cheaper but more importantly b) SSD not offered in UK)

You can find someone in the US that will sell you a new system and ship it to you. I've got two M15X's (brand new) that I plan on selling to international buyers.

Will you be selling them on ebay?

I saw this deal in the Uk http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-052-DE - although the price is nearly identical to that if you were to purchase directly from Dell (maybe dell would be a bit cheaper with vouchers etc) - this includes 3 years warranty so hmm dunno.

Gah, laptops are a pain in the to buy - too many to choose from. For a couple of hundred more, I am able to get ones with desktop i7's and a 280 card too - soo confused.

The Pc is exactly the same (probably build in the same factory in some low wage country). The warranty is international ( at least with the 3 year plan according to the sales assistant.). What you wont be getting however is accidental damage protection. (with the 3 year plan). Finally, the prices on the dell.com website dont include the tax.

Those bulky sagers with desktop parts are more like an matx desktop case with an LCD bolted on, not worth buying. I won't be selling on eBay or using paypal when I sell the m15x's.

Mine shipped today.... it will be here on Tuesday. I'm going to have to think about whether to keep it or not. Perhaps I will sell it (for a small profit).

Joker, at your highest overclocks you've achieved, have you experienced any throttling at all?

Do you have Crysis by the way?

If I don't keep it, I won't be opening it either, so there will be no restocking fee. The throttling issue is actually sufficient reason that anyone at this point can open their M15x and if they decide they don't want it, can return it for the throttling defect with no restocking fee.

    1) not sure if not opening it will void the restocking fee ... since it's technically custom ordered....I have heard new items being charged and now they are even charging 15% restocking fee for returning a non-defective refurbished system which is crazy (happened to me recently.)

    2) Throttling issue...that would be an interesting bet, Dell has to first recognize the problem which I'm not sure if they do or not...proving it to them in order to waive possible restocking fee would be interesting as well.

That was me but I think I was mistaken, I've since switched back to hardware and performance went up a little instead of down. Still, if you want to try the setting is Nvidia control panel/manage 3D settings and about the 7th setting down is the texture clamp.

So far the throttling has been limited to synthetic tests. I have crysis warhead but I haven't installed it yet. I oc'd the system to 680/1700/1000, ran the gta4 benchmark with gpu and tmonitor active and there were no signs of throttling and the result was around 43 fps. Next I loaded up a trainer, spawned about 20 cars, enabled god mode and fired RPGs everywhere. Had the cops all over me with tons of explosions and ai running around and there was not a hint of throttling at highly oc'd clocks. I'd recommend you keep the m15x, it's easily the best 15-16" notebook on the market.

GTA4 is not a good measure of GPU though, better measure of the Quad Core usage.

I probably will get Crysis as I understand it is the most graphically intensive game on the market so far.

Can you install Crysis and run the benchmark at max settings to see if you throttle?

I wouldnt let the throttling deal bother you at all at this point. Unless you want a machine only for benching. If you want to actually play games with a decend GPU and a nice LED screen on the go I cant see any other laptop beating the M15x. I had reservations about spending so much on a laptop but its really worth the money. One thing to think about is which battery to buy. The 9 cell is really quite bulky even though its hidden by the laptop. I want to get a space 6 cell to go with my 9 for times when I want a little more portability. On a plane or in the car the 9 cell is nice because you can functionally use your machine for at lease 2 1/2 hrs which is respectable for a powerful machine like this.

Dude, you are high. "COD modern warfail"? A console port? Shows how much you know, the PC version was developed fully independent of the console. The PC version plays better, looks better and overall should be game of the year. L4D2 is also a fantastic game, it was more disappointing to me though. COD:MW2 is a great game, don't let Uroboros spoil it for you...

Update your GPU drivers, hook up with Riva tuner, use an external sound card (off-loads the sound duties from the CPU) I play COD:MW2 turned up to "11" and other than some network lag (from my wireless router), it destroys COD...
Look at my specs, my M15X is nothing special....

I have received my M15x a week ago. But I have been noticing that some noise has been coming from the right side of the laptop. Its like a small motor making noise but its not very loud but still noticeable. It comes out occasionally. I dont know whether its the fan or something else because a fan running at high speed will give noise but will give a smooth noise which actually seems like fan running. But this sounds like a sound from motor. Then again I am not sure. Is anyone else experiencing this type of sound. Again its from the right side of the laptop.

Well I dropped the M15x off at the UPS store today so it can be shipped back to Dell, no restocking fee as it was defective. I am contemplating ordering another but I may take some time and see if prices drop a little around Christmas. I was a little spoiled when it comes to design as my last notebook was a unibody MacBook and they are so well designed and solid it is hard for anything else to compete in that category. Beside the defective HD, dust under screen etc., a few things about the build quality irked me. The lid was slightly off kilter, one side of the palmrest was creaky but what bothered me the most was something I have not heard anyone else mention so maybe I am insane. The plexi-glass they used felt cheep and if you tapped on the lid the whole thing kind of rattled. On my old MB they used actual glass(i think) and it was so solid, I really wished AW used glass rather than plexi-glass. I know it would be more prone to breaking but that rattling lid just seemed a little sloppy.

Does 195 drivers work better for you than 186.82?

Sound card is irrelevant, my CPU is just as fast if not faster for a game like MW2 than the i7.

    What is 11?

MW2 does not run very impressively on the GTX 260M at high settings, but it is adequate.

Check and see if you have a cd or dvd disc in your optical drive. Sometimes it will rev up and cause an audible vibration. Where I work, this lady bought a laptop and brought it in complaining it was vibrating loud constantly. The optical drive kept trying to read a disc that was on there... I took it out and no more vibration. hahaha she was REALLY mad cause she just bought it that week with our warranty and all. Then she felt dumb when I solved the problem...
