Got mine today :D Ordered on the 20th, delivered on the 30th. Will post some pics later.

I had a quick play with DisplayPort to HDMI and so far the audio did not work through the TV. Could be that I have a cheap $14 cable from eBay tho it did say it supported audio. I'm interested in hearing if it works for other people.

@ NiklasBrock - Mine came with A00 bios too. I installed the bios update and like you mine still says it's version A00. I went into the bios and it said the EC version was 0.92. I checked the Del driver page again and the version is given as A00 with EC 0.92 so it looks like it worked. I'm typing this on power saver mode and have had no trouble at all.

One word of warning to Kaspersky users, looks like KIS 2009 is not compatible with Windows 7 OEM. I've been using it in Win7 beta for ages but installing it now gets errors about incompatible drivers. Questions about it on the Kaspersky forums are answered with "Kaspersky 2009 does not support Windows 7". Not happy since I just bought a 2yr license :(

Aye, the 1800 number. Although I'm really not sure how accurate it is, having used it only once before for a dell system (it was dead on :) ), I really hope its in the boxing stage. Anyone have any idea what this is or how long it should / has lasted for?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Was the number that you called 1800-283-2210?
That number told me my order was in boxing stage too.
However, when I called 1800-433-9014, it says my order is ' processed '.
Talked to several people on dell chat earlier today for the heck of it...
One said: Your order is ready to be shipped EDD 10/10/09
Second one said: Your order is in final stage of ' in production ' EDD 11/09/09
Third one said: Your order is in production w/ no extra details...

I'm not sure if they're lying to me just to make me feel at ease though.
    Haha.
    - Shrug -
    Dell you're killing me T_T

Well that is mighty good of you, rep points for you :) I think I will still get my own 2010 license because I have 2 desktop PC's that will be in the same situation pretty soon. Thanks all the same, your offer made my day almost as much as receiving the laptop ;)

bubbamel, thanks for the sizing info. I'll just have to wait around till there are some decent comparo video's of the M15x with other laptops before pulling the trigger! The battery life is also a shame. I know its a very powerful little machine, but the original got better battery life with its optional battery bay and integrated + discrete GPU.

Keep the pictures coming guys! Can never have enough :D

Why are there hardly any Youtube reviews, or even unboxing video's? There is one "review", but its in German. Theres a few first looks when Alienware first announced and displayed the laptop. But nothing further?! Makes no sense, I thought this laptop would be very popular, with large amounts of media content devoted to it?

the boxing stage is apparently more than what we think it is. it also includes coming from the build origin country to the states from what i found through google.

i will definitely post a couple of shots comparing this to my wind and the wife's 17" hp.

Yup - from what I can figure out they are having some delays due to a shortage of parts but it still doesn't help with the waiting.

I ordered today the m15x.Called dell and bargained with rep.Got a discount of 10% on the order.Had a studio xps 16 which i bought in feb. with ati 3670 512mb.Terrible for games.Sold it out.Miss the RGB Led screen though.Thought of buying again studio xps 16 with 4670 ati card but was not sure how long t will be before it is delivered because of the parts backorder fiasco.Rep. told me there is no parts delay or anything with this laptop and will be delivered in time.Currently it is nov. 17th but he said it will come before that.Any idea how long he current time delay is? Only worries 9 lb too heavy. But i think we cant have all.Atleast i can try 21 days and send it back in case doesn't like to keep.Bought with 3year warranty.

For those of you who have received your M15x, does it require a clean OS install or is the crapware nonexistant/pretty limited? I haven't had much luck in the past with Dell...they seem to like to load tons of stuff you don't ask for.

Thanks for the number! According to this my M15X is now in the "Boxing Stage"!
and the credit should go to Sleey0 from the original thread so thanks to you and Sleey0 both!

Specs I decided to go with
    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 2 x 2048MB
    15.6-inch Wide FHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED
    512MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M
    500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
    Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
    Primary - 6-cell (56Watt) Lithium-Ion Battery

I really wanted to do the 1gb card but the budget said to just go with a larger HDD and upgrade the video card later on. I plan to update the RAM / Video Card later on

It's quite a clean install, I've only had to get rid of Mcafee anti-virus so far. It also has the Alienware Command Center which does the LED colors and some other settings. It comes with Nero, I've not used it yet so I don't know if I'll replace it with Nero Micro yet. There's also an Intel Storage Console and a DataSafe Local backup. Again, not looked at these yet and probably won't use em.

I had a similar problem with the USB port beside that eSATA one, I jiggled it around and trying not to force it too hard. Got it eventually but it was really caught on something. Was a once off tho, I've plugged it back in and other USB devices too without any more getting stuck.

well, to make a long story short, i already have a 17 inch monster which is dead at the current moment, but not totally. im lookin to bring it back to life sometime next year.

i really wanted to get that m17x but after they kept delaying me i just cancelled and i figured since the m15x its little brother and it has that new core i7 precessor i couldnt go wrong with it. but i think i made a good choice, and after all i got a great deal on my m15x. :)

What sort of PCMark Vantage scores should the new M15x be getting by the way?

I tried the trial version and it came out quite low, I think.. (See attached screenshot - specs are: 720 i7, 4GB 1333, 1GB 260M)

And what's this GTX 170M graphics card that it's claiming I have..?!

:( i pulled as hard as I can. The thing is when I plugged it in, it went in very easy but I could not pull it out. it is the USB/eSATA dual functional port so it should work fine with USB devices right ??

Yeah, I've had a USB in there and it recognised it and worked as it should - and it came out, but I did have to pull relatively hard.

Maybe, pull downwards a bit at the same time, not much mind, just in that general direction perhaps.
