Plus I could get about $350 - $400 for the 260 in it to put towards a new card eventually (4870, anyone?)

EDIT: considering the heatsink is differernt then maybe $300 bare card.

well now I'm just confused since alienware redirects you to dell's site. Unless all I could buy is is accessories or refurb systems

You cannot buy these new systems on alienware.com.

They are being sold thru Dell now.

If I am swapping anything, I'd buy a new M17x with a 4870 and swap.

Why would I care the diff b/w a 260 and 280? Not enough reward for the risk. lol

Someone call Dell and ask them if the damn 4870 is a DDR5 already. So Sleey0 can get it and we can follow him in his quest to return it once again when a better deal pops up :D

On the phone already but they don't seem to know. ;þ

Edit: I've been on hold a few minutes but so far I got the feeling even if they find an answer to give me I shouldn't put much stock in it.

As much as I love my M17, I really now wish that I waited for that M15x. That's one hell of a laptop. Even if it's heavy and thick, still...That's one beast.

No regrets from me for sure. 15" screen is too small for me, and at 1920x 1080? Gawd even me with 20/10 vision would need glasses for that thing.

-EDIT- Ha sorry, didn't mean to burst your Bubb amel there man.

You could always wait to see if there is an evalue code next month and get it for cheaper. Plus there's the option to wait for Win 7....just one more month.

For all the military members out there, the alienware specialty store in the AAFES website just went down today. If they're updating it to add the m15x, it would be nice to see $50 off like they do for the m17x.

Plus free shipping and no taxes is a plus!

And then just 2 more months to Q1 of 2010, and then who knows what can happen. :D

Just pull the trigger dude. Learn from Sleey0. Oh, what's that? You don't have a Boeing discount? What? Oh, then listen to Mandrake and wait.

Actually, now I think about it, I don't regret it. It wouldn't really perform any better than my M17, it weighs nearly the same as my M17 (gawd, that must be embarassing) and knowing Alienware UK, it'll be far more expensive than my M17 for the performance. (I'd have to get the 260M for sure, even with only the base i7)

The guy actually Googled 4870 GDDR and used that to give me an initial answer. They're just average working Joe's like the rest of us so I don't expect much from them either.

I'll wait to see a deal I cannot pass up. The boeing discount is not enough. For now I'll concentrate on trying to get the 4870s. Then I'll have a spare 280 for the M15x.

    The cf 4870's are a $700 upgrade - they better be GDDR5!

I need it for school, and this loaner that I have is on its last legs. I guess I can upgrade down the road. I just hope the battery life will be decent with the 9 cell and stealth enabled.

$50 dollars says two weeks in..... JK! Sleey!!!! ;) :D

If I return it would be because AW didn't do a good job with it ;)

For ex, the 9cell better get more than 2.5 -3 hours, screen better be good, etc.

Didn't that PC pro review about the I7 use a 4800 battery and still got about 2.5-3hrs?... I would like to think on battery the 15x will get 3-4 at least. I am being optimistic here of course.

If there DDR5 they are going to stomp on the 280s by a good margin, if there DDR3 then they will be pretty much equal but you get the added benefit of having Physx with the Nvidia cards. Its all trade offs really. In the end though i can live without Physx and rather have the raw horsepower since physx is not that widespread .
