looking at the specs it only has a display port and vga output. What were Alienware thinking leaving out an HDMI output that's crazy!

Display port might be the future but now pretty much all AV equipment uses HDMI. It's too early to be leaving out an HDMI connection.

Looking at the comprehensive specs..no hdmi but does have displayport. Very interesting indeed. That caught me a bit off guard. Still buying it though! :D

Edit: If I remember correctly, Intel now fully supports displayport.

I gotcha but It helps to future proof the envy even more... provided I can swap out the gpus in it that is.

Guys, the displayport to HDMI adapter runs between 10 and 22 dollars on Amazon

Not to mention that AW probably puts the adapter in the box.

    9 lbs isn't too much, but for a 15" I would've expected a little lighter.

Don't think Dell is selling the desktops (AW still is handling that, I think).

Im not defending the weight on this one, but remember that its actually a 15.6" screen, making the body between a 15 and 17. Wrap it in the metal chassis and it gets heavy Im sure.

Still waiting to see if they move the 4870s and the i7 in to the M17X. Seems like they would have to...the M15x with an i7 2ghz and a 4870 would probably give the m17x a real run.

Yeah if it has a beefy video card in it then it will be very tempting not to get one. 1920x1080 and a 4870 would go nicely together. Pray theres no auto contrasting/dimming built in :).

Speaking of resolutions, quad, what do you think of the 1600x900 on a 15.6" screen?

Would it look similar to 1440x990?

Thats what i was trying to decide on myself. 1600x900 better framerates but 1920x1080 equal awesome hi def movie support with no funky scaling going on and games will certainly look better. Problem is the eye strain involved with such high res on a small panel but if the panel is bright and clear that wont be an issue. Also depending on the price difference between the 2 will be a big deciding factor. $200 more for the 1920 might be hard to swallow.

I was just gonna ask that. It seems that on a 15" a 1920 x 1080 would be a tad small to read. I wouldn't mind but still. I would have an internal conflict when the time came to pick resolutions on this one.

It's pretty beefy in its overall dimensions considering it's almost 2'' thick and 9lbs like others have mentioned. Well at least that means it'll hopefully have some excellent cooling built in there.

I think it depends on if you order the blue-ray and want to full screen the movies. Truthfully I don't do a lot of that. I shrink em and watch while Im surfing/emailing or even play a game windowed if its a 17".

I know that scaling down the resolution in a game from the native res of a screen provides a downgrade on LCDs in visual quality...

but is that the same case with LEDs?

It has separate cooling system for CPU and GPU (as Clevo's one) so the cooling wont be a problem :)

Just waiting for price in Europe (hope under 1500E by Dell)

It doesn’t matter if it’s an LCD or LED not using the native res will always cause degradation to the image quality regardless of the tech.

Yeah i think in the long run the 1600x900 will probably be the best option for GPU longevity in games(lack of SLI etc). Hopefully the quality though of each panel does not differ that greatly as it usually does going from the lesser to the greater.
