It looks much easier to upgrade the M15x than the M17x but as Marvie said finding the parts would be difficult right now. In a couple months it should be easier.

The M15x will be 1000x easier to upgrade.

The bottom panel opens and has access to the gpu, cpu, ram, and hdd :)

It was supposed to be £1977 with an EPP discount of £170. I then said that I was also looking at a sager laptop that was £1500 but was the same spec however my buget was only £1650 etc.... The sales woman then went to talk to her manager and agreed to give me an extra discount of £119  which would only be valid to me for today.

Is it best to call in your order or do it online? I only ask this because it seems like I always here people saying they got an extra discount when they talked to the sales person.

Hey I have a question about the German Video that was posted. I noticed the backlighting on the keyboard wasnt very bright. I know he was in a well lit room. Is that how the M17x is as well. I'm hoping it has the same quality of keyboard/lighting.

I found the i7 processors on ebay last night and they were already pretty cheap considering they just came out. I think it 6-12 months they should be priced very cheap when more people start selling them. competition usually drives prices down. If i remember it was $4XX for the 720qm and about 500-550 for the middle of the road i7. I went with the 720qm so I could afford the 9 cell battery and 2 year warranty upgrades, seemed like a good trade off to me.

The engadget pics looked like the keyboard was very dim on the M15x.

Won't really know until it gets here.

Yeah I saw no reason to go for anything but the included chip. It will be fine for now. This will be my first quad core anything. The last computer that I bought/built for power was a 2.4c P4 years ago... I'm positive this thing will do circles around it so I'm not too concerned. LOL

Hmm, I leaning heavily -> W860CU, but all this talk of the M15x having BIOS overclocking is causing some hesitation.

I need some confirmation on this one.

I've heard that the i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) performs slightly faster then QX9300, can anyone confirm?

Hmm I wonder if Dell is going to release more color options like Cyborg Green and Conspiracy Blue, any ideas?

    Nah.

These systems will start shipping real soon.

Remember that the big hold up for the M17x was the lcd shortage. They are still today having WUXGA delays. lol

The M15x won't suffer that as it uses the same panel as the Studio 15 and sxps 1640. And I highly doubt that Intel will have any CPU shortages ;)

oh great something else to worry me... possible bad battery life and possible intro of and RGBLED screen. <---- Knowing my luck, this would happen. I was actually quite surprised when I saw they were offering LED and saw that this option was not available. *sigh*

Well, mandrake (I think) was referring to the connector (LVDS) will be compatible for an upgrade later on, unlike the M17x (CCFL).

Sometimes being a college student is awsome. Already have my hands on a full release of 7 pro free through MSDN (microsoft software alliance). If any of you are computing students at your college, you should look into it and see if your college is involved.

Im thinking all of us here will probably get out M15x before the est. ship date. I noticed my delivery date changed from oct 22 to the 26th by ordering a half hour later then the original config I had in my cart. I would love to have my system by the first week in october. <- wishful thinking.
