MINE ARRIVED!!
I am typing this post on it![]()
So, what do ppl want?
A few quick impressions:
- The case feels more plasticy than the M17x and it looks painted and not anodized. I have the black and it looks good, not great like the M17x (it isn't as metallic).
-Haven't done too much yet but the screen is BRIGHT! Seems to have good even lighting. Oh, quad, no auto-contrasting![]()
-It is much lighter and smaller than the mini-fridge that is the M17x.
-The 260 isn't handicapped at all -all 112 sp's are there and the clocks are the same.
- The keyboard lights are not as good/bright as the M17x.
Time to go bench.

LED Screen seems to be an LG - LGD020B is what I have in device manager.
-
Don't forget about the pics sleey0
-
Not sure if I'm going to do pics. Camer sucks.
Besides, everyone has seen this thing before online. I'll think about it. lol -
Yeah, lots of pics please. I have to live vicariously through you until the end of the week.
That's a little disappointing if the case isn't anodized. Paint isn't nearly as durable. How's the fan noise and speakers? -
System is silent right now. I am still downloading vantage - I'll let u know how noisy it gets running that
Speakers sound ok, haven't tested them too much yet.
Yeah, the case seems to be a bit of a letdown. I am still trying to figure out if it is even aluminum. -
Arent the grey parts of the case metal then?
-
Waiting on some temps
-
Just benched. See pic.
System wasn't loud at all and the case stayed relatively cool.Attached Files:

Still waiting for mine. The wait is killing me!
-
Vantage really needs to update their GPUID's lmao.
-
Sleey0, all I really need to know is battery. If you can give me your best estimate on battery life, that will make it alot easier for me. Thanks!
-
the m15x better have anodizes aluminum on the chasis, b/c I spoke and chatted with support twice to confirm this, otherwise i would have gotten the m17x. if it doesn't have the anodized aluminum, i'm going to have a bone to pick with dell.
-
We want pics plz Mr Lucky Sleep0 -
Ok.
Just installed my 280 and it is working thus far. I am dl a driver for it and will run vantage
I am not too happy about the case either. Seems a little fishy. -
grats Sleey0!
Bummer about the case. I think everyone assumed it would be the exact same thing as the M17x. -
Not a deal breaker, just a little misleading is all.
If you look at it in a certain light it is kinda wavy. I can't explain it and I will take pics in a bit. -
Well you have both systems right next to each other. I'm assuming it doesn't even feel the same. Is that true?
-
Not quite.
I can't tell.
Anyway, the 280 is working. Going to bench now.Attached Files:

Is there any flex to the casing anywhere?

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
dam....that cpu score at stock is gonna hurt us QX9300 owners haha
Whenever someone manages to get that cpu and sli into notebook.....dam I am gonna be tempted! -
So it worked.
Not a huge improvement but I wasn't expecting too much since the 260 is close to the 280 anyways.
I would assume it is safe to say a 4870 would work in the M15xAttached Files:

No, no flex mandrake.
It is still as solid as the M17x.
I believe it is aluminum but isn't anodized like the M17x. It is too hard to tell really.
I will say the 1080 res on this screen is cutting it close to being way too small. lol -
Well to be honest the M17x config page states "anodized aluminum" whereas the M15x config page does not.
-
true, which is why i called them directly to confirm whether or not it was anodized aluminum on the m15x, they said it definitely was.
-
I noiced that too, just thought it was an oversight on Dell's part.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would bet that DPI is pretty insane haha
Glad to hear the screen is much better quality (I am still happy with the one on my M17x though)
These scores you are putting up are just making me long for an i7 refresh of the M17x that much more! -
Stealth mode won't enable on battery - get an error message saying the same.
Weird. Not exactly sure what it does anyway with this system, though. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
who uses stealth mode....I have an ipod touch for that stuff (web browsing and email) haha
-
-
I know.
It won't enable on battery though. -
See pic
Kinda strange, IMO.Attached Files:

Wierd. Is it enabling itself, and when you push the button its telling you it can't go back maybe? Whats the point if it won't go to stealth on battery Derrr.
Nice "non" English too. -
Did you try it before using the 280? Just a thought. You gonna sell that 260?
-
Got mine too! Yeah this thing is sick, if you lok at the edges of the case on the top side you can see its metallic nature. Not like a thick piece of aluminum but it works for me for sure. The only problem with my case is it has a nice size scratch in it which may get this thing sent back, not sure yet if I feel like dealing with all that.
My first impressions
Screen is amazing. It is extremely bright and looks to be very evenly lit, blacks look very true compared to my hp.
Size wise its not as big as I expected after all the comments on its size. True its big for a 15.6, it doesn't fit properly on my cooler instead it props up on the wrist rest offsetting the extra size of the 9 cell.
I havent done anything intensive yet but while web browsing the laptop is very quiet and hasn't gotten hot to the touch yet.
The speakers sound as good or better then any laptop I've used personally, on the downside your arms can get in front of them while typing but they still kick enough not to sound muffled.
Ok time to go play, we need to start a benchmarks thread, I dont know what to get to benchmark yet other then vantage... this is amazing -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
so is the 280m going to live in that M15x now? lol
I personally got a laugh out of the excellent english displayed in that error message. Sorry it aint working though -
No, I didn't try with the 260.
Urobos, try putting your system in stealth while on battery. -
Yeah thats extremely wierd about the stealth mode not working, I get the same odd little notification. gona restart and see what happens, I agree whats the point of stealth mode if it "doesn't support battery"....
-
pics guys?
-
Yeah Sleey0 this is very wierd...so who's calling dell lol? I guess if we dont figure this out soon were all going to have too... I demand portability running this thing full blast on battery isn't cutting it
-
Sorry to be the bearer of really bad news, but the chassis IS NOT aluminum
In the pics you will see the paint and the single unified chassis is magnesium.Attached Files:
-
-
My instincts were right for once
-
I'm still happy with the case, be it aluminum or not the scratch I have makes me very unhappy though... Any luck with the stealth mode issue? Thats got me down at the moment, I really hope this is some minor fix and nothing crazy. What urks me is they tested these which makes me worry that they seriously don't have stealthmode for battery. I'm pretty sure on the AW page they talk about stealth mode of battery saving. I mean what would be the point of stealthmode on plugged in laptops. Thats like saying this car is the most energy efficent vehicle ever built... as long as you dont start the engine.
-
-
I am sending it back.
I am really disappointed. For a $2k system that weighs 9lbs, it NEEDS to be aluminum.
No sweat off my back, though -
-
No problem and I hope I didn't turn anyone away. lol
I just was expecting premium materials is all. -
Not sure I see what your talking about in the pics but I take your word for it. So your saying the outter case is plastic? Ouch your going to bite the $400 bullet on the restock? I'd be totally satasfied right now if stealthmode worked and if my case didn't have a big ol scratch on it.
-
I don't pay restock fees (Dell never charges me).
If you were to have a M17x next to you, you would understand. The inner casing of the M17x is magnesium wrapped with aluminum.
The M15x is just one piece of Mag and is painted (it is obvious in the pics).
