Where did they(Alienware) talk about SLI on M15x? I saw The_Moo swamp Sager owner that new W860cu should change to SLI like M15x lol
-
Yeah thats not a good design decision but atleast its on the left and not the right
for us rightys that is
.
-
Ac adapter is 150W so it won't be too huge.
-
-
i unno where i got it from
never looked into it checked otu the service manual and saw 2 heatsinks and was like
so my bad ....
i feel tarded
-
hugs for thugs ...
-
yeah, one is for the gpu and the other one is for the cpu.
As far as i can tell, there is only 1 hard drive slot and it requires an interposer (Not an option- a MUST)
What i dont understand is why cant they just make the screen like the M17x instead.. It looks hideous.
-
also, i just found out that the student discount is only 5% and not 7%
-
i fixed it over there and said i was wrong
But IMO HORRIBLE design with that ...... if you can fit 2 MXM slot you can fit 2 mid range 40 nm GPU's -
^
That depends on your University -
Original m15x looks better IMO. I think it has to do with the optical illusion of flotation that the original had. That helped it from looking to tall and bulky like the new one dose.
The new m15x will have much better quality and performance for sure but for looks, I will take the old one. -
where do you see enough room for a 2nd gpu?

SLI? Mooooo™, you got some 'splainin to do!
-
So maybe a 4670 standard and 4870 upgrade?
Sounds possible to me -
Lol@the 4670 . They better have something in there far more powerful then that thing
.
-
-
Not sure if they've been posted already, but here's some case shots from the manual:
-
BTW did a quick check on display port and HDMI seems that there are plenty of HDMI to display port adapters out there. So those concerned need not be after what I read.
-
-
so this M15x only has 1 hard disk compartment ???
no 2nd hard disks ???
-
Yeah a single hard drive . Theres just not enough room in a 15inch chasis for 2.
You could always yank out the optical drive though and put one there im sure.
-
Correct me if im wrong, but i thought Asus G51 and HP envy 15 both manage 2 hard drives in 15" (16:9) design?
-
-
If the price of the M15x is comparable to the W870CU
I'd go for the W870CU any day ...
just my thoughts ...
-
at just over 4Kg, having full 16:9 design and 2inches thick, im sure M15X is threading close to 17" as well. the new HP Envy 15 with Core i7 is really thin and is full 16:9 as well, just like G51 and M15X.
to be honest i am a bit disappointed at the footprint of M15X. i was holding back myself (from getting M17X) and waiting anxiously for M15X for a long long time now. hopefully the GPU will do some justice here.. -
HP Envy has 2 hard drive slots, but it doesn't have an optical bay. I'm a little disappointed by what I have seen so far... the spec manual says it weights 9 lb. with the battery, and it doesn't mention switchable graphics anywhere.
-
It says starting at 9lbs.. Damn that`s pretty heavy for a 15inch :/
Unless it includes the AC adapter?
Anyway im looking forward to this new m15x -
-
Yeah so in the case of the Envy the Optical is external ? Guess that would be one difference.
Also the M15x weight and height(thickness) dont say how much space it takes up on the desk. -
-
But these are the things dell is probably wondering:
1) No second hard drive, mean no RAID-ing. Who cares when we have SSD? But wait, SSD's aren't made for storage which you can do with a second hard drive.
2) Lets make the area surrounding the keyboard glossy and not matted like the M17x.
3) Time to put innovation on edge-to-edge displays by curving the area where users grip to open. (FUGLY)
----
The bottom of the M15x isnt as elegant as the M17x's venting system. -
the M15x is 1.9 inches thick! I thought it would be 1.3 like the old m15x. 1.9!! thats .2 away from the M17x.
-
Does the processor support hyperthreading? is that 8 threads then?
-
-
The 9lbs figure likely includes the AC adapter, so give the notebook itself around 7lbs.
I'm still waiting for a price and GPU options, but I'm not a fan of the bulky design.
I'm still leaning towards the W860CU, for now. -
my 2cents
EDIT: 1&2) bulky
3) no full keyboard as the W860 has... -
-
EPIC! I really hope I can order mine tomarrow, just got my checking account juiced up and ready to be drained, yet again. I've been wondering for a while though if these are actually going to ship before oct 22, I guess maybe you can configure one tomarrow and the ship date will be on the 22nd (if were lucky) I will def be ordering one as soon as they become available then biting my nails for the next month until I get it.
-
If you want 7% discount than be sure to use dell university and not Alienware University which is only 5%
-
-
What? You can order now?! brb.
EDIT: You can't order now I got a confused by quads post. Yes I'll be ordering tomarrow Im going to be checking as soon as I get outta class at 2, maybe even order in class if need be. -

Well, these are officially being announced tomorrow, right? So are ATIs new graphics card lineup...wonder if they're planning on putting an MXM3 5850/70 mobility variant in this in the near future, not to mention Dell are meant to have snapped up 80-90% of the first batch of desktop cards in a massive OEM deal, could be something going on here
. Most of the recent ATI cards have been 65W TDP or less; so this could fit, especially as ATI expressely said they want mobile parts out roughly the same time as desktop this time round.
Even with 20% (averaged) less performance than a desktop part, an ATI 5850 mobility card could be amazing; the desktop version is looking set to be about 30% stronger than a GTX285.
Imagine having a PCM/HDMI (for us sound/av nuts) outputting, I7-mobile-toting, 15"-sized, DX11 specced, GTX285 speed GPU laptop... sounds insane...I want one
Oh and btw sorry if Im rumour mongering, but thats a really nice thought! -
You can't order yet, they're not "official" yet.
-
on second thought i think ill be keeping my m17x, id rather have sli/raid, This ones for another time for me
-
I think the m15x is looking like a must-purchase for me. It's perfect- truly portable power, and it'll likely be just a bit less pricy than the m17x (I'm thinking a starting price of $1399-$1499 USD sounds about right).
-
Hopefully I can spec it out nice for around $2k.
Already got a x25-m g2 sitting here waiting for it -

-
Yeah, I get the feeling a $2k system will give you a good balance of full power for a good price with this thing.
-
If it does land at 2k well configured I will also more than likely buy it use both the EPP and DPA and move on.
