It's really not AW's style, they use to vary their designs, colorings and size offerings more then perhaps anyone on the market for a long time. Part of the cool thing was wondering whats coming next. I understand they probably chose to stick with the exact same design because of its proven thermal superiority but they are not wise in thinking the M17x case design won't have a fatigue effect on the mass market and potential 15' customers will look elsewhere for a more unique, fresher design as the M17x case design has already been on the market and peoples image concious minds for months and months now.

I was looking for the fan layout but I didn't see it. I want to order a cooler tonight if I can figure out if the bottom fan sucks in or blows, I'm imagining the intake is on the bottom or it would blow hot air in your lap.

If that DisplayPort does not support audio, then that might be a deal breaker... very annoying.

What are the odds that the new PM55 chipset supports audio over DisplayPort, and that Alienware implmented it? I haven't seen any notebooks yet that do audio over DisplayPort...

I actually like the design of the M15x, and I'm glad they stuck with the new design introduced with the M17x. It's a nice design, and I don't mind bulk if it means good performance and thermal properties. Heck, the old Area-51 m15x was thin, but we all remember the thermal troubles that plagued it's lifetime. Really the only thing I don't like on the new design is the massive bezel on the top and bottom of the screen.

    2 things I have noticed.

    1. per the pdf files there is no bios option for turning off integrated graphic card. So I would assume this has no onboard but im sure you guys already knew that.

    2. More importantly, if you go to the youtube link page, it says the machine has a text...

[German Language] In this video, Markus Schütz from Dell, presents the 15.6" gaming laptop Alienware m15x with Nvidia GeForce GT 240M. Look and feel of the new gaming beast - starts from 1.399...

I'd open a translater and try to get snippits, but what I have so far is "Einhorn is Finkle, ankh Finkle is Einhorn." Maybe this guy is gonna use the lappy to steal a dolphin named snowflake and kidnap Dan Marino.

If your in the US, just remember that the M17x was MUCH more expensive over there.

So 1399 euros would be like a 1499 starting price in the states :)

the only interesting part I found of translating the website page was this:

"Beim 17-Zoller m17x bleibt vorerst alles beim Alten. Anfang 2010, zum Start der neuen mobilen Grafikkarten von Nvidia, wird es einen Refresh des Gaming-Notebooks geben. Dann ist auch Intels Calpella Plattform integriert."

When 17-Zoller m17x time being, everything remains the same. Beginning of 2010, the launch of the new mobile graphics cards from Nvidia, there will be a refresh of gaming notebooks give. It is also integrated Intel Calpella platform.

    :/ MOORE WAINTING

Seriously was AW thinking when they were making the new m15x??

128 bit with GDDR5 should be near equivalent to 256 bit GDDR3.

With the Clevo at least getting the 280 I would assume this would also. We'll find out for certain tomorrow but this isn't going to cause M17x owners to start selling off their systems.

Well if it uses a mxm 3b slot no reason you couldn't upgrade later on to the more up to date cards. Remember that the new gts cards coming out aren't enthusiast cards, so something more powerful should be available in the future.

They need the 4870XT as an upgrade.

One thing I've noticed on here guys, I haven't found ONE machine being offered in the mobile space that has both the i7 AND SLI 280s or Crossfire 4870's. I don't think there is a motherboard for it yet.

Go check Sager, Clevo, BuyPower, etc. Everyone has an i7 with one 280, but their SLI system goes back to the QX9300.

How reliable is that german source though? Would they really be so dumb? I thought 260 would be the stock card $1500 is cheap and its going to be a sweet machine but its going to leave people like me wanting to upgrade as soon as a new card is available. Also since it only has 65w I guess I cant buy a 280m off someone here and use it either could I?

On page 69 of the Alienware M15x Service Manual, it shows you how to take out the graphics card. I don't see a SLi setup in the illustration. So, no SLi in the M15x it seems...

    I wouldn't put it past Dell/AW's arrogance.

Release crap now and make folks upgrade later.

Sound like a good business model to me.....
