Hey, I've heard of #1 before and I think you'll need to contact Dell support. It's basically not using the laptop screen as the default monitor so nothing shows till the login screen where Windows loads any external monitors that are connected.
For #2 you can disable the USB wake thing completely in the BIOS under power settings. Alternately I think you can disable the wake feature for specific devices in windows UAC.
-
Problem #1 I managed to solve, I simply had my screen brightness at the lowest setting for a while, and that made it completely black at startup for some weird reason, I'm running on the second to lowest setting now and all works great.
Problem #2 still persists, haven't been able to find any program or usb device that might wake it up, also checked BIOS and wake on usb is off. Will keep searching for a solution.
I also got a new problem:
When on battery power, trying to play video files in VLC makes the video lag EXTREMELY, this does NOT happen in Windows media player tho, so thinking it might be some weird problem with VLC, anyone else know more about this?

So i recently ordered my m15x and i was wondering if they come with bluetooth. It was not available as an option to select but when i finished the order it said it was included. Although, when i asked customer service they said that they will not have it because of windows 7 having difficulties with it or something. So who is right the site or the guy i could hardly understand on the phone?

Whats a good nVidia driver I should install in my computer, I've DLed the one from nVidia's offical website and it's sort of running slow on my system (260m)
Can anyone provide me a direct link of a better driver?
For example when I play MW2, my sounds gets jammed and repeats, and my video goes slow then goes back to normal. -
One more thing, my CPU fan does not spin up like the GPU fan as soon as you turn the laptop on during the power on self test, but it works normally after that. Is it worth calling dell to replace the motherboard as the CPU fan has been replaced and still get the problem. -
Hi people , i have read all the posts i think in this forum 67 pages, the eyes boggle
, any ways i missed it or somat but i live in the uk and i am about to order the m15 x but i am a bit confused and cannot get an answer from dell site for love nor money, but does this unit still come with a bluray player or not, only i would like to be able to play bluray on lappy now and again, and to not have this on such a laptop as this is a crime in my book

Guys I need some help.
I'm trying to max my CPU out with OCCT and my turbo boost isn't working. The program is using 100% CPU but it won't go past 1.60GHz.
Could it be OCCT is not setup right? Do you guys know some other programs to stress the cpu 100% with?
I need to burn this thing in and out gas it. It stinks like mixed fried electronics/perfume. -
I tried Prime95 and IntelBurnTest with CPUZ open and the CPU never goes past 1.7GHZ while the tests are running. I also monitored it with the Intel Turbo Boost gadget and that shows the same thing.
How the heck do I stress this cpu (720qm) 100% with a test program for a few hours? -

A 14" AW with a 5700 class GPU would be a nice portable. -

Intel Turbo mode only kicks in on a single threaded applications using 1 core only. But if you are using all cores then turbo mode will not work.
-
Well, Turboboost is more complicated then only 1 core.
Each chip can loose a certain amount of heat TDP. As long as the CPU is cool enough it boosts it's speed and will get warmer until it nears it's designed running temperature. Using only one core, only one core generates heat and that core can be overclocked quite a bit. Using 2 cores the overclocking is somewhat less, 3 cores even less. If 4 cores are in use and enough heat is extracted from the CPU with good cooling then even 4 cores overclock somewhat. 4 Cores and cooling will overclock to around 1.7 to 1.8.
So the overclocking is dependant on the heat of the chip and not a fixed factor.
These graphics below will explain a bit because the above text can be confusing (certainly because English is my third language).

I'm really getting erked over this USB issue with the PM55 chipsets and wish intel would get off their butts an offer a fix. I just lost 4 gigs of music I won't be getting back when I tried to sync and now when I try to update my firmware on my external HD that requires me to do so using USB.....well that's a no go as well. The only thing that works with the USB is the mouse and that's really unacceptable.

I have no problems with usb devices at all so far, including iphone 3g. Maybe because I did a fresh install of windows 7 from day one. Hmmmm
-
Thanks guys. I really look forward to the new Alienware product. Hopefully a thin 15".
-
I'm not seeing what the point of that would be-I mean then you're dealing with Dell's Dell branded systems. Midrange components.

The M15x is 9 lbs which is just enough to carry around. The current M17x is 12 lbs which makes it too heavy to carry as a portable. -
Wondering if anyone had a spare google voice invite, i know its not the forum for it buts its the only one i check as my m15x is currently in production and i like to read up on it frequently.

So has the hotfix posted a few pages back still working with the iphone?
-
New to the forum here, and just wanted to say that my M15x should be arriving this week and I'm honestly pretty anxious. Even with all the posts of negative/hopefully fixable things happening with them. I'll be sure to give all a full update when it arrives.

-update alienware bios
-update to latest chipset drivers for intel PM55 (dated about a month ago)
-install the hotfix
thats what I did, and I went from having a ton of errors to having it perfectly working without any problems -
Yup. I'm the guy with A03. I can't really see anything different from what others describe is in the A02 BIOS. Ahh, if someone wants me to do/try something I will. And yeah, I'll say what a bunch of others have already said, this computer is a small god. Love it. I'm a Apple/Mac freak and this is the first non-Mac that I've ever owned (and I've owned a bunch of Macs and PCs) that has that same feel. God the unboxing was such the sexy Geek-pr0n! The solid build, the way it feels. Yeah, love this laptop.
-
It's that Hotfix I don't get, given it's for a different chipset (not that that doesn't mean it couldn't fix this too!) I'm hoping others report back on whether that works, and it would be nice if Intel's drivers alone fixed it (I assume you just grabbed them off Intel's site).

Hey, I've tried a search on the board and can't find squat for the AP M25x, where are all the cool- AlienFX themes? Huh? Is there a thread that I'm missing? I just can't get enough of this thing!

Also was very curious, i wanted to know what kind of games people are playing on their M15x, i know many have said in this review and have been going through everything to see what others have wrote but if possible id like a reply here if everyone doesn't mind.
