OK cool thank you. I read in another thread that people were having trouble with WoW? i play this rarely usually only when i can sign up for the trial cuz im not paying monthly fees lol, but why would this be? Other than the fact that it may not be smooth in native res.

The main game I play is WoW. I also have thw 1080p screen.. still get 50-60fps with everything turned up except shadows. Sometimes I have to turn down particle effects because theres just too much going on (TOGC 25 Twins door strat heh) on the screen.

FYI Crysis: Warhead has activation, and limited at that. It's a rental. The original release of the original Crysis doesn't (so that's the only one I bought)

I'm glad someone else is having issues with this, as I also have issues with this game. Does yours crash as well when you click confirm on any setting? If I open the game and just play without changing anything it plays nice and smooth.

Has anyone had any problems with web browsers (all of them) crashing on flash-based sites? Mine just started acting up, but I read elsewhere that it's actually an issue with the IDT audio drivers. Any insight would be appreciated.

Solution is to roll back" the IDT driver in Device Manager. Fixed the problem immediately.

It can, but if you're getting the Geforce 240 instead of the 260, you might be better off getting a different brand with a 260 or 360 instead (or add it to this system).

it can also be an issue within the flash player itself: when playing a flash video, open settings and de-activate the hardware acceleration, that also appears to resolve things.

Depends upon what dual core you have...the i7 will likely be somewhat close to a Core 2 duo e6600 or e8400 (ballpark) for gaming.
The 260M is somwhat close to a desktop 9800GT, so that will be a step up from your desktop G9600GT.

So your gaming will improve because of the vid card, and your overall everything else will improve because of the quad core i7!

It would depend on your exact settings. I mean I'm sure you can set Crysis so it would crush a 260, but no question a 260 would run it well with the right settings. My 32-core part runs it in the mid 20s with mostly medium settings (a few higher) and a medium resolution (actually looks really smooth, and looks better than the consoles can do), and a 260 has over 3x the hardware.

Found the issue with Crysis, for me at least, is to only update it to 1.2, do NOT update it to 1.2.1 if you run Windows 7, it causes it to freak out. I just reinstalled the game and only updated to 1.2 and it runs flawlessly and I can change any setting all I want with no crash.

Also, I run it at 1600x900 with all settings on High, no AA and I get high 30's framerates almost always, although I haven't hit the snow levels yet.

Is Internet Explorer the only browser with a 64 bit version? (I mean optionally-the 32-bit version's on there too.) I remember hearing that there wasn'ta 64-bit flash plug in.

Not that I use Internet Explorer (I don't even have flash installed for it anymore, to remove that security vector.)

Would overclocking my CPU and GPU result in a higher chance of throttling? Also would i necessarily need to overclock both or is just either one ok to overclock and is it worth it?

Also i was wondering if i should go and use Firefox from the beginning, and just uninstall IE. And what are some good Chat programs i can use that may be better than AIM but can still keep me in contact with others who use it?

Firefox is normally a bit more secure than Internet Explorer (and I use NoScript to make it safer still), but mainly I just like Firefox better as a browser than anything else (by far).

You can't really uninstall IE, but it doesn't really hurt anything being there (I just install any updates for it in Windows Update even though I don't actually use it).

I've got Safari on my system too, so I sort of have two alternate browsers (Safari and IE) I can launch if I need to be logged in somewhere with multiple profiles or compare anything or anything like that. Sort of handy every great once in a while.

You can actually turn off automatic updates in steam. Right click on the game before installing and go to properties screen. Select your update parameters and you should be good to go.

I said it again and I"ll say it over and over. I'm a guy that for the last 4-5 years, average a different laptop every 3-4 months. Whether it was ultraportable sony, to cheap Gateway to Asus gaming notebook, even to new aluminum macbook pro. Either returned them within time frame or sold them later. None of them has ever really made me happy beyond 2 weeks max.

I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS M15X SOONER! not a trace of remorse, love it love it love it. Had I ordered this (which I have been waiting for 10 years) from the getgo, I probably wouldn't have wasted so much depreciation or restocking fee.

You get what you pay for and you will love it. I thought I developed some sort of disorder with all the computer change and obsession. Alienware m15x cured it.

    Hi everyone...

Im new to the board but frequented here when considering the new notebook I have ordered... the AW M15x.

I have one request from everyone here about the only item I am considering changing before its too late and this is for the monitor resolution....

I ordered the 900p monitor but this one item I am always second guessing... during regular usage and even games is there any degredation in display quality? Do they both look extremely nice? My premise for ordering the 900p is that I wont have to strain my eyes when viewing web sites, etc at that resolution and the graphics should, in theory, be a little quicker as opposed to the 1080p resolution...

The reason I have second thoughts is that 900p to 1080p isnt really losing that much real estate between the 2... or is it?

Can someone post a straight on screen shot of thier 1080p desktop and someone post a picture of thier 900p desktop so I could see exactly how much of a difference there will be?

Thanks all, and I cant wait to get this sucker (Slated for delivery Jan 22nd, 2010)

It's not the same thing exactly, but I was in your place when ordering my M17x.

I went with the 1440x900 screen mostly to save the 150$ (yeah I am that broke).

Honestly, I think it's wonderful. I have no problems with graininess or lack of screen real-estate, and the lower resolution means I can max out crysis at native resolution while still maintaining over 30FPS.

The M15x has a smaller screen with MORE pixels (1440 vs 1600 columns), so unless you're a high-res junkie I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey Joker you the only one I know in the forum that had overclocked your GPU. So I hope you can help me with some question that I had. I'm running mine at 620/1620/950. I play crysis warhead for like an hour with max temperature of 77-78C. I also run the ATITOOL artifect scan for 4 hours without error. At default clock while gaming the max temperature I got was
67C. Is that consider a good temperature and a stable clock? Is that the temperature you got whenever you overclocked your GPU? Thank!!
