Hum, really can't multi-task that sucks. Ya probably is just gimmicky stuff and nothing really new. That is one of the things I hate about @pple. They deliberately dummy down there products, charge you ~3x what they should, make it a pain to develop for, Charge you for developing for it!, but to top it all off I really Really dislike the @pple fan boys and girls. They do have good build quality though.. I'll give them that.
Sun Microsystems is a WAY better company then @pple. IBM is super cool. Dell's cool they sell Linux computers... These are companies to fall in love with not Rip you Off and trap you in a world of over priced Everything Parts to repair @pple.
-
i just edited the post above with a link for the hp slate. i think that will be much better then an ipad.
-
Awe, yes that dose look cool. Steve Blamer is kind of a turn off but I am glad to see that the @pple fan boys saying that @pple "Created a Completely New Device" were completely wrong
Classic
CES was even before the @pple thing.
Sorry to any @pply users reading this. You don't have to agree with me. This is just the way "I" see things. -
I was thinking about getting the x25-v Intel SSD 40GB as a primary drive scores 7.7 on windows experience and runs about $120. Windows 7 64 bit will take about 16GB of space and all my music movies downloads can be sent to my external drive. Do you think this is a good idea. Loads Win 7 in 18 vs 34 seconds (7200 RPM drive) as I posted earlier
Watch a video of it installing adobe master collection vs a normal hard drive it is insane.
Any thoughts and does the m15x I have coming have an eSata Connection or USB 3.0 ? -
No, your better off getting the OCZ Vertex 30GB for about the same cost.
The Vertex has TRIM, >200MB/s write and the best costumer support ever.
It looks like that Intel model of SSD is the old school with out Cache and No TRIM so it has Slow write and will get Super Super slow in about a moth of use because it doesn't have TRIM i.e. No TRIM so the SSD controller doesn't know what memory blocks have been erased... So the ware leveling doesn't really work. -
I'll sell you my OCZ 30GB Vertex for cheap.. Say $100
-
IMO wait until larger SSDs become more affordable! Just my 2 cents though.
-
For that price, hell yeah. Ssd are sweet. A lttle small but i think you can manage it. Also i think a 40 gb is actually a little less in real life.
-
ya as a single drive i kind of think 60GB is a minumum.
You can get a 60GB vertex for $225 from amazon
30GB still for sale though....
Ya, the Size is a gimmick. The thing is that the companies need to set aside some space for ware leveling. So the 30GB Vertex is really like 35-40GB but they only let you use 30GB.
Some companies have been known to skimp on the Ware leveling and give more space to the user but this = bad performance in the long run.
Also, If your SSD doesn't have TRIM you can Flash the Firmware or sometimes writing it all with 0's will set the SSD controller back to a clean state. -
-
I plan to get a SSD as my first upgrade but only when I can afford one that has more storage than my iphone
-
That was a mess up in packaging. They were going to drop it to 32MB but they ended up giving it 64MB before they started selling.
Don't take my word for it. Go to the OCZ Forums for Vertex SSD's. Or google for it.

No Flash on the ipad... What is @pple doing? All marketing hype and fancy packaging with them.
-
What exactly is the lighting theme? Rather, what does it do?
Also, I feel that the M17x is for people that do not have a full tower that can run games, and if they do, then its TOTAL overkill, unless you are addicted to power (I think thats everyone here).
The M15x is the perfect compromise of class, power, functionality and ownage. Don't let the M17Xers get you down!
(ok, maybe im a little jealous) -
does the m15x come with usb 3.0 or an esata port?
-
-
Whooo, thanks for the link Innapropriatename_3, now I feel like my computer is a xmas tree 8D
-

I think for the price I would choose an Asus G73JH-A1 over the M17x comes with everything below. Release Date Mid Feb. By the time I was halfway done configuring the m17x I was already @ $2500 on custom config.
$1618 (provantage) for everything below
17.3"/FHD (1920x1080)
i7-720QM (1.60GHz Quad-Core)
8G DDR3
ATI 5870 1G GDDR5
1TB (500G 7200RPM x2)
BD Combo
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
802.11 bgn
8 Cell
Backlit Keyboard
Gaming backpack
Copperhead Gaming Mouse -
YA, that is a super good deal. I like Asus too.
The thing that I see a problem though it the cooling system. That is the big reason I wanted to get the M15x with the Core i7. The CPU will not go into Turbo Mode if the CPU is over heating but you can alway get a cooling pad. That is what I had to do for my current laptop. -
The g73 looks horrible if you want my opinion...
Who wants a terabyte in his lappy anywaySSD ftw
-
Well imagine those SSD's in Raid 0 in the Asus haha. I am not sure if it comes with a raid controller tho the last 2 G series didn't but the series before that did. They make no sense sometimes. I think they just pick out of a hat what the next generation will include.
-
8GB or RAM
all for 1600???? How is that horrible might I ask? -
Ya, would be super cool to have 2 OCZ vertex's 30GB in RAID 0
Like I said before do wish I could have 2 HHD or SSD's.
DDR'5' Really?
I think the specs look good. No doubt about that. I would only worry about over heating with all that stuff. -
The G73 is good for the price, it offers a lot of hardware. As for quality, it doesn't approach Alienware. Asus traditionally cuts corners in hardware (e.g. display, cooling, plastic builds, cut down video cards/motherboards, lack of features etc) to achieve that price. Nobody has the G73 yet so who knows what Asus did to meet that price. They purchase their parts from the same place as Dell yet they do much less volume so obviously they must be cutting quite a few corners to reach such a low price. Warranty is also a concern because it's a mail in depot based one vs Dell's standard NBD.
I had an Asus G51 previously and wasn't happy with it. I then tried a Sager 8690 and again was not happy. Finally I settled on an AW M15x and was very happy and would have kept it had the M17x-R2 with RGB LED not surfaced. They cost more but the build quality, aesthetics and workmanship is in a class of its own. There is not a single notebook manufacturer out there right now that could sway me from Alienware. The G73 is a joke compared to the M17x-R2. I don't consider anything Asus makes near AW quality.
P.S. You just have to search out good deals with Dell. That's both a good and bad thing because deals can have such huge variances. The system in my signature cost me about $3000 before taxes. Go configure it on Dell's website and do the math -
Hum, the Dell slate Runs Android "Linux" Thats the one I want when it hits the market.
-
Ya, what Joker said.
Build quality is a huge deal for me. I have had bad build quality laptops and it T's me off to no end. Like my current HP elitebook. Crappy LCD panel, Dead Pixel, the hinges are crooked, part of the molding is not flush and will not snap back into place.....
However, everyone is saying that the build quality of these new Alienware laptop's is super good. That is why I got one + the super good cooling system for the known HOT Core i7
This seems like Dell's doing. The Area-51 m15x got honorable reviews. People saying that it over heats so much the plastic cracks. But these new ones are all medal, well for the most part. -
Yes the previous alienware designs (before dell stepped in) had issues with build quality in the long term. They had heating issues and other design problems. With Dell's money and R&D, it seems AW has turned back into the world class company they were known to be.

Quick question. Not a big fan of reflective Screens especially during the day outside. Going to get an anti glare cover but was wondering if anyone knew which one would fit:::
15.6": 1. 345mm X 195mm
15.6": 2. 354mm X 198mm -
Hell ya, the Alienware logo will be WAY cooler then the @pple logo
You could even have it flashing to the music -
Hi peeps, i have a quick question, i have had my m15x for just over a week now and it has been brilliant no probs yet, touch wood.
Any hows i have tried useing the adaptor that came with lappy to connect from display port to hdmi lead to my lcd tv it plays vidio great but i get no sound produced through the tv only on the lappy, is this correct or should there be a setting i need to correct, it's been puzzling me for last couple of days now, hope some one can enlighten me on this -
-
Ok folks... you asked for a benchmark thread for the M15x and it is now live.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=455438
I have also linked to it in Post#1 of the Owner's Lounge thread.
Have fun! -
-
..gonna make people buzzzzzzz lolll
-
-
-
thanks guys i done this i worked fine , but had a hell of a job getting default sound back but done it in the end, they should have made it all work as u plug in, much easier,
-
Hey guys i know this is not for this particular thread, just i want to run it by my fellow buddies here in the official M15x thread, because i know you guys are reliable n know ur stuff. So here it goes:
Pros n Cons/whats better between :
nvidia GTX 260M drivers :
1- NVIDIA GeForce v186.42 WHQL Drivers
2- NVIDIA GeForce v186.82 WHQL Drivers
3- 186.81
4- 185.85
And what does the latest 195.62 drivers really provide? (besides slower fps? lol)
Also, Direct X10? or 10.1?
Your opinions are much appreciated
EDIT: and what about DX11? how come i don't hear about anyone using it? is it because it is too demanding and gives very low FPS on the 260M? i though it was optimized for multi-core Processors, so shouldn't it take full advantage and flourish with the i7's? Thanks again
note: i haven't been gaming on pc's since 2007~2008, and alot has changed since then! I remeber using DX8 lol. I'm going to start up again since i got this BEAST -
Oh i think i get why, its because the 260M doesn't support DX11....Woops..my bad!
-
-
and you can use it as a template to make new ones.
-
see this people? this is what a helpful thread looks like, with great contributors
And inappropiatename_3 is DA BOMB! lollll
-
-
since M15x have bench mark thread, start posting up some benches. lets see what this beast can do.
-
I'll post up some after i'm done downloading ( and messing around
) with UT3...
That is when it finishes =/ -
Anybody had any luck changing your shipping method? I orderd my M15x from Dell's AAFES site and the shipping is set to 5-7 days. I have called three different reps and they say they cannot make the shipping any faster. One rep was able to submit an expidite request to get my system out the door faster, but its still the 5-7 day shipping. They all told me that I would have to cancel and reorder to get the faster shipping, if I did that it would probably be here at the same time.
-
-
The 2 customer support reps were the ones who told me that they could not change the shipping without canceling the order. The sales rep was the one who actually submitted the expidite request, even though I didn't order the laptop from him. I think im just gonna have to wait, im just impatient.
