Not sure about the scores :/
But in regards to the firmware, all you have to do is open your device manager, right click on your OCZ disk drive, select "properties", go to the "details" tab and in the drop-down box, select "Hardware IDs".
That should tell you what firmware you have
-
Thanks for this bit of info Smeggit, will prove extremely useful!
Since I have no desktop at hand, I'll have to send my SSD back to the Netherlands to be flashed with 1.5 and for the flash modules to be wiped clean.
I thought it could handle the flashing in AHCI, how I was wrong
Thanks again! -
It is firmware 1.5 should the scores be faster?
-
Seems like we have it all figured out now
Thanks for your help in resolving this!
Scores should be much better so I'll send the Disk drive back OCZ to be flashed.
Kindest regards
-
I'm not familiar with these agility drives.
From what I have read, scores can be as high as 230/135/80 (read/sequential write/random write). With 1.5 which supports Trim and Garbage Cleanup, I would expect your results to be somewhat faster.
Did you flash your drive yourself? -
factory flashed

In which case you have to keep an eye on the OCZ forum and if no solutions pop up, you might have to contact a staff member like Tony or HDCHOPPER who have made useful guides and are up to date on pretty much everything relating to SSDs (OCZ anyway).
There are quite a few guides online to optimize you SSD which you will find on this link:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?63273-*-Windows-7-Ultimate-Tweaks-Utilities-*
Good luck!
-
I did everything on this link except for RamDisk.
here is a recent benchmark with 1.5 firmware confirmed.
-
Owe boy.... I'm dumb
-
You should be getting higher speeds. I'd suggest heading on over to the OCZ Forums. They have support staff that is just amazing ! Ya Tony and HDCHOPPER are the ones.
There are things you need to do for a SSD. Like align the file-system for the Erase Block Size of 512k. Set the file-system to only write to the disk in 512k chunks. Set Firefox to cache to a RAM disk and not the SSD. Never defrag. Turn off Virtual Memory aka Pageing.
All of that is much easier to do in Linux but I have not read the Windows guide (Sticky on the OCZ forums)

I told myself that I would never get another laptop from DELL after the issues ive had with the XPS m1330 which just recentley crashed.
But ive had a look at the m15x which has caught my attention.
Would you guys highly recommend this laptop? I'll be using it mainly for general use, watching videos/movies and a little bit of gaming.
Any downside to this laptop? -
Downside?
It's kinda big.
Other than that, it's awesome, super fast, sexy, easy to use, friendly, lovely and all!
For videos its awesome, the screen is so bright and clear, even with the stock screen (1600*900)
Though if I had to choose, for media such as videos and music, maybe the Dell Studio XPS 16 would be a better choice, it's cheaper and you can have a RGB Led screen, which is teh [thing].
But anyways, I cant recommend you the M15x enough. -
My M15X (now in my sig) shipped today and is coming n Wednesday!!
-
I remember raeding around and after searching i can't seem to find it... But recently my M15x is starting to have wierd chirp noises which i'm going to assume is the HDD.
Anyone have any suggestions as to whether i should get this looked into and fixed immediately before it becomes a problem or is it nothing to worry about? -
Saw this on endggadget, and i wont one to replace my chip in me m15x
im busy Drooling over this godly chip, oh if only it could be
IBM's eight-core, 1.2 billion-transistor Power7 chips have begun shipping as promised, with the entry-level Power 750 Express starting at a few bucks over $34,000. That offers you some truly supreme computing power, as each of the eight cores can run four simultaneous threads for up to 32 parallel tasks, with 8MB of embedded DRAM (acting as L3 cache) per core. The top-tier POWER 780 system maxes out with either eight 3.8GHz eight-core chips or eight 4.1GHz quad-core units, allied to a maximum of 2TB of DDR3 RAM and up to 24 SSDs -- though you'll have to call IBM to find out the price (presumably so that a trained professional can counsel you after hearing the spectacular number). -
many things can make chirping noises like hdd, a faulty capacitor on the Mobo, and cpu/gpu fans. so i can't really say for sure what part is making the noise. if you have a spare hdd then try to put it in and test it. i remember hearing people with M17x with this issue, maybe search for that.
-
Just tried out the Crysis demo at high settings. Looked great but my fps averaged in the mid to high 20's. The game was still very playable with that fps which I found surprising for an FPS game. My GPU temp did skyrocket though; up to 90 degrees at some points according to my GPU-Z sensor log. Do you guys think that's safe? I am running overclocked at 650/1100/1500 so if it's too high a temp I can scale it back a bit.
-
I don't really have another HDD to try out unfortunately... but wouldn't putting in another HDD void my warranty? =x
-
Just got my M15x, this thing is giant but I love it. Very well built. Though I did just find a stuck pixel. Does that qualify as a defect which i can return with no restocking fee? Just curious, thinking about ordering another and returning this one when it gets here.
-
there is no way for them to tell if you swap out hdd, also its one of the easiest things to do. but since you don't have one, it doesn't matter. i guess you have to call dell to trouble shoot cause, i can't tell you what is causing your chirping noise.
-
90 is still safe, but if your overclocking i suggest getting a cooler.
-
I've made a few topics about laptop coolers on different forums and could not get a sold answer as to whether it was worth purchasing one. Some people said laptop coolers are useless, some said they work but only drop the temperature by less than 5 degrees, others said they are awesome, some said that they only work for some laptops and still others said the M15x doesn't need them at all. It's really hard to decide whether to spend the money on one when there is such varied opinion and conflicting information on them.
-
Or if your too lazy, you can use your M15x to cook you some eggs in the morning, you know, without having to make your way into the kitchen
and yea, get a cooler, as your pretty much pushing the 260m to its limits with those clocks, and those temps... but anything under 95 is ok "per say", but personally, anything over 70 makes me uneasy... Not to mention yoru prob degrading the battery a WHOLE LOT quicker at those temps...so might want to consider getting a serious cooler -
with regular clocks a cooler is not needed, but if your over clocking your temps will be much higher so a cooler is a must, and like jstarino said the heat is gonna kill your battery also.
-
Ok typically, the M15x DOES NOT need a cooler, as this machine has probably the best cooling system ever known to laptops, as i've yet to pass the 66degree mark while gaming for hours( my hp dv6t used to reach 70 degrees surfing the net :s). But that is for STOCK clocks, and low end Overclocking. At the clocks yoru pushing, get one, and not those cheap 20$ ones, i mean a Friggin good one, 2+ fans, maybe 4. im bored at work let me see if i can find you some. And yes a good cooler should get you at least about 10degrees cooler...
-
You beat me to it
, should have known you would.. hehe.. but anywho sick tag team action going on lolll
-
^^^ sweet alway nice to have some backup. i got your back bro,lol
-
here found a couple best picks, might wanna check these out:

Thanks for the input. I was looking into the Cryo LX cooler when I made my last thread about it and got talked out of it. As for the battery, don't care, M15x is plugged in 100% of the time. I only got a laptop over a desktop because I don't have room for a desktop in my room and I like to lie on my bed whilst gaming like a lazy git.
-
that one looks great also, but if your not sure about if its worth it or not, if its going to work out or not. this is what i would do:
Go find a retailer store that has one, buy it, test it out, and if it sucks, then return it.
If it's only available online, just make sure they have a good return policy.
You can ask all the people in the world what they think about a product, and get a bagful of diffrent replies which in the end, aren't very helpful.
So there's nothing like a hands on evaluation by you yourself
-
Good advice. Thanks for the help. +rep.

If I skipped out on the $71 advanced warranty and just stuck with the basic. What's the amount of time I'd be able t return the laptop if something happened to it? just like 30 days? or does the basic 1year have a return policy for broken hardware within the 1year?
-
they will fix and replace any hardware for one year, excluding cosmetic stuff like scratches and broken stuff on body. after 3 failed attempts to fix you can get a refund or replacement. but advance will take care of everything including water damage and drops for $71 is way worth it.

There is a new command center just release if anyone want to try.

added a separate thread and got it to work great thanks to inappriateneName's quick assist
I like the new look and it seems to be a lot less glitchy than the old version: hopefully this one will play nice with the OSD and remove those hiicups as well. -
Wow so I'm playing CoDMW2 online and there's a guy sitting next to me who's playing on the same Wifi signal I am. He's using an old HP Dv7 and I'm using a new M15x. We both are showing crappy signals but his FPS are blowing mine away. Is there something wrong with my graphics card? Is the GTX260M that bad? is an old Radeon that much better? Installed and tried Bioshock 2 today and my FPS are just horrible no matter the setting. I'm using 195.62 so I dont know whats going on.
-
stealth mode?????
-
what resolution/grahpic settings are you two running at?
-
Does M15x have a stealth mode? I thought only the M17x did. I'm running at 1920x1080 and he's running at 1280x600. I tried running at his settings but he's still getting way better FPS. Though we're both getting a horrible signal I'm skipping all over the map and he's running really steady so I'm wondering if it doesn't have something to do with the network card too.
-
stealth mode = speedometer looking touch button on right side
i think you have it enabled -
man just installed it too, yeah i like the new look and feel of it. sweet my old themes work on it too. i did have a very hard time to get everything to work though, first install mess up my system tray and wouldn't recognize anything, but finally got it to work.
-
I upgraded to the new Command Center and all hell broke loose. While upgrading the software, it also upgrades the keyboard firmware for AlienFX. Somehow the process for keyboard upgrade failed and now I'm stuck. There is an unknown device in my device manager and AlienFX does not recognize my keyboard.
Any suggestions?
