Why on earth does the M15x not have an RGB LED option? Just seems crazy if the XPS does...

That's what i want to know... I'm thinking when there's finally a M15x refresh, it'll include the RGB LED and an upgraded GPU. I'd say, give it a couple of months max?

I can always count on you :) ... Nice! a lil on the expensive side... im wondering if i should just get a BR reader... i mean.. when the hell am i going to burn a blu-ray? and did you see the prices of those discs? 0_0 ... On a second note... maybe if i HAD a BR Burner... i'd look into the whole Blu-Ray burning thing... you know...to "back-up" my already purchased Blu-Ray movie collection so i don't damage the original discs with frequent use.... hehe

EDIT: Did a quick 2-3min search on prices... seems to be the lowest actually lol...

Sweet i was looking at the exact same list of blu-ray drives! thanks !

    Err, sup y'all
Just wondering, will dell send me a offer soon or later regarding a coverage plan, or do I have to call them and try to get discounts and such? I really want an extended warranty and I have been told (well on THIS forum) that dell will contact me later, but since I'm in canada, I'm not sure it will happen :O

Oh and btw, here's a pic of my set-up, what do you guys think? 8D

lol nice....my desktop, tv/ps3 and laptop are all within a 5 foot radius of eachother lol... its quite funny... my desktop is at my desk, my tv on the wall, and my laptop either on my nightstand or on my bed lol...then i got the logitech Z5500 setup for surround, and I'm flying :D there's so many electronics in my room that i don't even got to put the heating up throughout the whole winter lol. and when my tv is on, damn it feels like the 4th of july in here lolll

As for warranty, i called Dell not too long ago just to make sure what their policy is with purchasing extended warrantys after the laptop is purchased...and they told me i can upgrade whenever i want within my current warranty coverage period (which is 1yr basic for me). So at the end of this year, or by late summer im thinking, im going to upgrade to "advanced coverage" and smash my laptop to bits whenever i want a new/better/up-to-date system :D

Thanks for the replies. And FYI, on the Canadian site, it looks like RGB is not currently offered on the XPS 16 either.

One other question, on the M15x, is the 1080 upgrade really worth it?? Is it because games look a lot different with it, or is it just for watching hi-def movies??

I think this is one of the most asked questions of all time lol.. but here's the answer in simplest terms:

Assuming the average user CANNOT tell the diffrence in picture quality between 720p and 1080p on a 15.6inch lcd,

900p -> better game performance ( since it has a lower native resolution, it is easier on the GPU, giving you better FPS) and still has a better resolution than most laptops on the market at 1600x900.

1080p -> better for blu-ray movies since it takes advantage of FULL HD.( again, barely noticeable on this size screen)

What it came down to for me, is screen real estate, as picture quality isn't all that noticeable, and performance in gaming between 900p and 1080p isnt all that great (about a 3-5fps difference). 1080p has more room, allowing to have things real small on screen and consequently having more windows open at once (im a heavy multitasker). The 900p however, is like i said, still a higher resolution than most laptops have giving plenty of screen real-estate for the avrg user. So if your on a budget, just get the 900p :) trust me, either one looks gorgeous. Another reason i got the 1080p was for bragging rights :D :

    Friend: a 1080p on a 15.6 lcd? isn't that overkill?
Me: Yup, and that's just how i like it :D

Edit: as for the RGB lcd for the XPS16, might be temporarily out of stock, yet another reason to forget about the xps16...

hi def movies is awesome on the screen on the 1080, but just for gaming 900 dpi is good. actually 900 is better for gaming overall.

lmao... try putting that cigarette down (or give me a haul cuz im going crazy with all this studying!!)

yea i can't wait to get a blu-ray reader in this badboy to watch some highdef movies :D should look better on this screen than my samsung 46''...considering it has the same pixels and is roughly 1/10 of the size lolll...now that's pixel density!

I was stuck b/w getting a wired vs wireless mouse config. I've been spoilt by the ergonomic design of the logitech wave pro mouse (I believe it was similar to the MX1000 revolution). I've been going to stores and checking out different mice. I've decided that I need a wireless one cause I don't like cable clutter (one of the reasons I got rid of my desktop and thinking of buying an iMac or HP AIO)

The Razer mamba is really nice but I need to have that large stand/receiver along all the time (which is good if I'm home all the time, but an inconvenience while traveling). I saw the logitech MX Performance mouse and fell in love with it (same design as the mx revolution or the G5 series). Too bad it does not have an on the fly dpi change mode.

I've asked this question a couple of days ago as well but this time I am being more specific. What are some good wireless gaming mice? (I am no hardcore gamer and never go to LAN parties but do enjoy playing FPS when I have the time)

The thing is with gaming mouse, its always best to go wired. with wireless gaming mouse you have to deal with a big receiver, suck i know. The MX Performance mouse is sweet but not really considered a gaming mouse. I have the razer orochi mouse, which is sweet because it uses bluetooth but the only down side is it small, but otherwise its the best of both world. bluetooth for regular use and wired for gaming. but when i'm home i tend to use the a bigger mouse to play games on. man wish they made a bigger version of the orochi they i'll be set.

I gotta say, AVP runs perfect with everything maxed out.

The game looks great too. I just wish M15x had a DX11 card...

I wonder what this game looks like on a DX11 capable card.

I have a MX1100 and a MX Performance, both are awesome. The Performance has 2 DPI settings which you can adjust and uses just 1 button to toggle between them, the MX1100 has 3 DPI settings but they are fixed and cannot be adjusted to user preference. For the feel of the mice I prefer the MX1100 but for the laptop I like the Performance cos it has a micro USB receiver.

I have a Razer Mamba which is very nice but I got tired of the short battery life. I also have a Sidewinder X8 which I didn't really like the feel of but it does work well and has good DPI buttons.

Wow, a lot of info on the M15x here! So... I already have a desktop PC, and I'm trying to decide between a new M15x or the M11x for using while on the road/in the air. I'll list the pros and cons I'm going through trying to decide on which of these laptops.

    M15x pros:
    - great display
    - internal BD/optical drive option
    M15x cons:
    - battery life
    - weight
    - no WWAN option

    M11x pros:
    - battery life
    - weight
    - WWAN option
    M11x cons:
    - no optical drive

For ultimate portability the M11x wins hands down, especially with the WWAN option where I can insert my phone's SIM card for internet with no WiFi around. But the power and display of the M15x is just hard to ignore!

So with the M15x I think the 9-cell battery would be a must have for me. What can I realistically expect for battery life with the 9-cell for DVD watching, internet browsing, email and such? And how much weight does the 9-cell battery add to the M15x?

Got the M15X yesterday, its awesome! :)

Rep goes to the guy on the other page of the thread with the colour morph theme, it rocks. :) It's gonna take me some days to install my PC games, but it'll be fun getting back to the PC community.

By the way, does everyone feel the need to put the Alienware Cap on? Or am I just a freak that wore it around the house all day? :p

Some pics from me; (I took like loads but photobucket is being a pain, so i'll share 3 of them...)

sad to say battery life is around 2 hours, maybe more with a little tweaking. 9 cell doesn't add that much weight, plus it props up your laptop from the back, making it even better for cooling. both are good laptops.

The hat definitely looks stupid. I wish they had included one of the newer head gear that is on sale on their site.

@smeggit - Thanks. I am definitely a palm grip person and that is why I love the Logitech MX series. I will try the microsoft sidewinder X8 today (I don't like the hockey puck receiver though) and see if I'm comfortable using it. Else, it is going to be be Logitech performance.

A little warning for any one thinking of installing brothers in arms games, i know they are not new games but i thought i would try em out on me new lappy...

 well it caused a black screen of death, and no matter what i tried i could not get rid of problem, it was somat to do with the copy protectiion used in the game that clashed with win 7 64 bit, no amount of restores could rid me of this and i have had to reformat drive and start again

For games like COD, do you prefer a mouse and keyboard to a gamepad??
If I end up getting the M15x, I was assuming I would then purchase a gamepad, probably one from Saitek with the same layout as Xbox gamepads, to play shooter games.
Plus, I'm usually sitting on the couch when using the laptop, not at a table or desk, so that makes it hard to use an external mouse...

I've got another question since I don't have access to private internet access right now to download my games, so I was hoping maybe someone would have some insight:

What kind of FPS do you think I'd be able to pull with max settings on TF2 and WoW in native resolution? I know it's not an important question, but I've got 25 days left before I leave Iraq and I'm getting anxious!

xbox controller could work too but just need an wireless adapter or plug a wired one in, some game are not made for controllers like mw2 so you would remap your gamepad to read as keyboard and mouse movements. but keyboard and mouse is the way to go for any real pc gamer.

i don't know about wow but tf2 you will get crazy high frames rate, i mean like 70-100fps sometimes even more.

sorry shaz nothing to do with compatability mode m8 it was the ruddy copy protection that the cd has on it that caused the problems, not steam download version but proper cd disks of game  still back up now and those two games are in the bin

well you could catch me dead before you catch me wearing the hat :D . It's still in da box in the exact same place it came in hehe..

And gibson you might wanna go over to a desk when gaming.. you know... so you give the laptop proper cooling capablities...and yea most people prefer pc gaming BECAUSE of the mouse and keyboard .. lol...a mouse just gives u amazing agility while playing first person shooters such as MW2

    @ inappropriatename : Damn was that fatty ever satisfying :D :D :D ...

Hi.. has anyone notice a flex on the keyboard for m15x... i've got some flex there.

Shall I call the tech support and ask them to replace my m15x or just ask for a keyboard replacement.. Or it ain't a big deal just let it be there.

Just one more thing will the tech guy open up the whole laptop or its just quite simple to replace the keyboard without opening up the laptop...
