Seeing as most of the guys with the problematic DVD SKU were canceled i will go ahead and make a new order :).
If the old one will come through i'll just cancel the new one.
Damn, i want my new toy!

This is the player info I have:

    8X DVD+/-RW 429-14956

Now how long will it take UPS to get to me! It said 02/16 before, now it doesn't show anything. Can't wait to open up the lid and grin!

We pay a premium for them to hold yours back a few days :D

Don't worry, I bet you'll have them before me. Once it reaches France, the delivery trains/trucks/cars start working French hours, meaning the drivers work until noon, then they all take the day off after having too much pastis for lunch...

    from dell's website :
"If your order is listed as “In production” or “Shipped” it’s no longer
possible to cancel it. However, after you receive delivery of your
order, you still have the option to return it to Dell within 21 days of
the invoice date. Unless the product is defective or the return is a
direct result of a Dell error, a restocking fee may apply of up to 15%
of the purchase price paid, plus any applicable sales tax. "

My order that was canceled was automatically reordered. I called Dell EPP and told them to cancel it and that I will just keep my second order. They said OK and that was pretty much the whole conversation.

Oddly enough it is now 2/2/2010 according to the email I recieved for the new order..........3 days faster, I kinda doubt its accuraste, we will see. I did make sure the origional was canceled before placing this.

Funny, the new configuration is exactly same as one they canceled....rep said was canceled for a "illegal config" but had no idea what part was illegal....

What the heck happened to the ESD link on the configurator?

Are these shipping so fast that Dell decided no need for an estimate? lol

yeah, i kinda doubt it's accurate:
i payed for free shipping, which is 5-7 days according to dell. So if you subtract those 7 days from my EDD you get yesterday although i ordered today.

Their policy too is if you buy an upgrade, no restock fee, but you may have to remind them on the second order to add a note to your RMA ;)

Hello all, my first post here. can somone confirms the type of the memory coming with the ati cards is it gdd3 or 5?
Does the new m17x has the switchable internal graphics as the old model?
IF YES, can somone confirms the type and model?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the forum

The memory in the ati card is Gddr3

The m17xr2 has an intel motherboard and doesnt have the hybrid graphics that the r1 did

please have a good read and if you cant find anything theres a search facility in top right corner that helps.

Sure hope it's isolated to the desktop cards, but with more or less unified drivers, it bears watching. Actually be hard to miss. LOL.

Niiice, I just had them throw in the upgrade from 4gb 1066 to 4gb 1333 for free, I shoulda gone for 5%! They had another issue this morning and had to reorder mine a 2nd time, yesterday it had a 2/16 date and today's new one shows 2/2 too. Also I asked about the black chassis shortage and my rep checked around and could find nothing about it.

Thank you, I had a chat with Dell sales today and the rep told me it is gddr5!! and comes with the internal gfx option!!
I wasn't convinced ofcourse that why I posted.
I never used ati cards before and been to notebookcheck website and they are listing the nvidia gtx280 sli on the top of their cards in bench marks.
But in alienware US website they are promising more gfx power from the ati cards over nvidia! so I am kind lost here.

I wouldn't count on it buddy. Just think of them as GDDR3. You will save yourself the disappointment, and if they (will not be) happen to be GDDR5, it would be a nice bonus. Just don't bet on it.

I would imagine it will be DDR3. The Ati 4870's were DDR3 in the M17x-R1 so I'd imagine it would still be the same with the M17x-R2. It would be awesome if they did add DDR5 ones though. We'll know once people start getting there laptops in. ;)

Thanks all for clearifying on gddr, in the current m17x setup I don't think we will ever see the new gtx3xx cards in it as a future upgrade unless we change the motherboard (as long as intel wouldn't allow nvidia to make chipset for i7).

think of it this way the gddr5 5870's have a 128 bit bus, the gddr3 4870's have a 256 bit bus so they are almost equal, gddr5 4870's with a 256 bit bus would be awesome and probably better than the unreleased 5870's for raw horsepower. dx 11 notwithstanding.

ATI pissed me off with the ASUS W90 issue.. NVIDIA pissed me off with the DPC latency stuff thats going on right now.

I gave up choosing sides awhile back. Whoever has the best product at the time gets my $$.

Simple. Those are OLD results, with dodgy drivers...taken from the Asus w90P...which...turned out to be using 4850s, renamed as 4870s. The Dell 4870s are FASTER.

I've owned crossfire 4850ms,and the GTX280 SLI, and I can tell you for fact, the Nvidias don't win by much, the 4870s will be a bit better!
