I think if they're offering RGB LED with the C2Q setup, you guys have a good chance of the RGB LED working with your boards. Sillyhoney, order one and test for us ;)

I know. I just agreed with Joker that we will have higher odd with RBG working on old mobo if dell have option for both screens for Core 2 users.

Both options for i7 doesn't mean as much because with i7 it's a new mobo in the first place.

But if it is the same ccfl screen on i7 and core 2 quad then they most likely use the same connector. This just seems highly likely given they are nearly the same chassis....

the cable assy on my M6400 RGB LED display was not the same as my m17x (on the GPU end)

So it makes me wonder if the refreshed M17x has a different GPU I/O connector for the display

As long as both versions of the M17x have the same irregualr connector there is hope lol

and the difference is most likely due to the inverter panel/board and not the actual LCD panel

my M6400 has the RGB LED display, it has a different connector

of course the RGB display has no inverter, and there are two connections on the back of the display panel (only one on a CCFL screen).

what would give me hope that the new RGB LED display may work on the old M17x is the fact that Dell si using the 4870 cards on the refreshed unit.

so unless it is a different 4870 card, it should work as long as the GPU BIOS reconizes the LED panel.

The display connector is from the motherboard and irrelevant of the video card. The 9400m is evidence of that

power to the screen and AlienFX lights, data to the screen, and connections for the microphones and webcam

the video feed is direct from the motherboard, trust me

Dave seems to think so. I agree with his assessment, RGB LED is fantastic for games because you get a larger color gamut. Movies look better too.

Everytime I play Crysis I know it can look twice as good on a quality display. Color gamut on M17x display is far from enough to show how gorgeous Crysis is especially in woods and sea scenes and stuff.

    Wow awsome.

I'm probably going to buy crisis when I get my lappy because apparently its the most demanding game out atm.

Which crisis should I get? As there are many versions.

Also are there any other games that are more graphically demanding than crisis?

I originally had a studio xps 16 with rgb led and when i had it mirrored to my then samsung hdtv, the picture quality was identical which was phenomenal. The blacks on the samsung tv were clearly better but the colors matched up. I play a game called frontlines fuel of war online and that game has levels loaded with mountainous terrain. When I compare what i'm seeing on my OLD dell 2005fpw display vs the M15x WLED, it's disheartening. The color gamut on the 2005fpw destroys the WLED and the sad part is the 2005fpw is an old ccfl display. So you can imagine how nice a modern rgb led will look.

The panels for hdtv's are much better. Here's some vids I took a while back:

    1. Samsung LN46A850 hdtv with the Dell studio xps 16 with RGB LED:

    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=4777215&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=4777215&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=&amp;fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width='400' height="300"></embed></object>

Dell Studio XPS 16 connected to Samsung 46" A850 via HDMI out from 5150 Joker on Vimeo.

    2. Dell studio xps 16 with RGB LED vs HP DV7 with a WLED display, this one shows the dramatic quality difference:

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yjFiZCeRRq8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yjFiZCeRRq8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height="340"></embed></object>

Huh? You didn't like the WLED M15X screen Joker? Comparing it to my Samsung T240 24", and my relatively new 120Hz Samsung 52" LCD TV (don't have the model # handy) I find it much brighter but with much deeper, even blacks. The image is a bit cooler so I have tweaked it a bit to bring back out the reds some. In any case, the image is sharper and easier on my eyes even with this ultra-high pixel density.

I suppose image quality is all in the eye of the beholder...

Well I can tell you some games that are much more poorly optimized for PC which make them more demanding than Crysis lol.

2007 Crysis(es) have the best graphic quality, still.

And by saying Crysises I mean the original and the expansion called Crysis Warhead. I know WaR has just bought the pack for only $13 so you'll want give it a shot. You can't go wrong with that game.

The M15x WLED is fantastic. It just doesn't have the color gamut that a desktop panel or RGB LED has and it shows is all. That's true of any notebook wled display but it's comparing apples and oranges anyway (desktop vs laptop display).

    You can safely say so.

No need for that edit because the best in PC is the best of all :D

When I was home I used to play games on a 8800GT desktop, 22" 1680x1050 display. After a while I had a chance to see some latest (at that moment) FPSs in PS3 in 32" HDTV and I could instantly tell comparing consoles to PC is ridiculous ;)

A maxed out game on PC always looks better than that game on PS3. Consoles developers want their games to run stable on consoles so they don't max out graphic quality. :)

Joker are you still going to have your M15x to do a side by side on the screens? I saw the RGB on an XPS and it was great the colors were really rich but it didn't look as bright as the WLED.

Nope, I got the UPS labels successfully processed today so it will be going back by Monday or Tuesday. I'll try to video tape the M15x screen and then reproduce those settings on M17x to compare. I don't think it will be a fair comparison though because the M17x screen will likely be brighter. BTW the XPS screen was actually much brighter than the HP. In that video the HP's crappy colors and lighting were just more evident.

It's 8:42 and I was about to order my spanking new i7 m17x and saw that. I'm growing increasingly impatient!

On a side note though, all hard drives prices have gone down by £0.01! HOORAY!

Edit: And hard drives are RAID 1. I still don't see the point of RAID 1 other than shoddy backup.
