No, they are not offering this anymore in the UK and according to my sales rep they decided not to offer it here again. Its not a stock problem as I understood from him. They just called it off :( .
Since I use my external display ( Samsung T240 ) which will provide me with everything I will need for the moment, I thought to go with the stock display instead of wasting another £80 on ccfl display.

I hope I can order the upgrade later if they offer it again.

I've been told you can extend the warranty to 3 year towards the end of your 1st year for the same price you would have paid when you bought it. You would probably be better off just getting 1 year complete care and the 2nd video card, and spend the money buying the next 2 years of warranty in a year.

it sounds like a good idea, and the price is the same, but are you sure about the warranty upgrade? because i've asked the rep that upgrading from 1 year basic to 3 year advanced warranty after like 10 months would be more expensive than if i buy the 3 year advanced now. but i understand that you're saying getting 1 year advanced and then before it expires buy another 2 years and it'll be the same price? can anyone confirm this?

I get a M17x Replacement for a Studio 1747. I see the RGB on an Studio XPS 16 and on my Studio 1747 and dont like it. The M17x comes with Dual CCFL, i am curious how it looks.

An M1730 owner with 8700 SLi ended up with a fully maxed R2 - extreme i7 and crossfire radeons for a replacement. I think that's a record in its own right. But congratulations, WaR.

The CCFL on the M17x is very poor.

You may not like RGBLED, but I guarantee you won't like the CCFL on it either.

May be lack of RGB is a good thing For now coz I have another reason to wait till march for ATI 5870 to come out. TBH A STRONG REASON IT IS. Coz I can't take it with Ccfl.

Nope, if I really need the 5870s, I'll sell the 4870s for $1000 on eBay and grab the 5870s from Dell. Remember, this isn't some Asus, we're not stuck with 1 non-upgradeable card. :D

How easy is it to switch display output on the Aleinwares? I know on my Dells you can hit Fn F8 to cycle through the connected display options.

I don't mean to sound negative but I doubt this will work. Seeing as how any m17x r1 owners that have nvidia cards with stutter are getting upgraded to 4870's for free by dell.

There won't be much of a market for the 4870's considering mostly everyone will have them.

Ha! I made it to the M17x-R2! And, without any details, it practically didn't cost me a thing. Of course, my R1 must disappear.

I knew my MBA would be good for something. I negotiated my way to an R2 just like Nomad negotiates his way through the mothership in Crysis :D

Edit: OK, finally managed to write down my specs. It's not a monster but:

    Dual 4870
    RGB LED
    720QM
    1 TB

The kick of it is that a co-worker bought my R1 with 4870's for over $2000 today. With this new order it cancelled out. But not only that, in the end I managed to make a little over $100 in net profit for me. Beat that Sleey0 ;)
I am so relieved. Thank you stuttering. Also, I would post my invoice but I will hold on until I have the system in my hands first. Lol.

I don't know right now exactly but it comes to about $1975 or so before tax. I guess that's how much they are getting from me in the end. I like to think it was analogous to a swap to an R2.

Very nice. I found a very generous agent and got an excellent price on mine too ;) Paid $3100 (before tax) for the system in my sig. If I hadn't gone with a 920xm or 3 yrs warranty it would've been substantially cheaper.
