If you have win 7 (which you do), may I suggest the Netherlands theme from microsoft.
Looks stunning on my u2410 -
Now I wonder if it was a mistake to took the 720q should I take the 820? is there a real difference for gaming?
-
So far we know about the R2
No SLI - ever
only the 920 can OC and only a 5 %
No intigrated GPU for longer Battery life
R2 benchmarks are at least 1K higher
RGB LED screen RAWKS
did I miss anything ??? -

The guitar one looks awesome. I haven't tried the others yet. Running some benches.

lets say its voltage (though im probably wrong). you increase the voltage by 1 with the percentage set to 1, you've increased the core by 1%. now suppose you were able to overclock the voltage at a stable 9 but increasing it by 10, the system BSODS or fails POST. So you've got 9*1% or 9% increase. Then, at 9 increased voltage, you begin messing with the core % multiplier. Making it 2%, at a 9 increased voltage gives you 18% increased core. at 5% multiplier you've got a 45% increased core speed (which would essentially never happen).
understanding overclocking comes with understanding that each of the variables you're given to mess around with are usually multiplied by one another and therefore, the CPU can be easily pushed to its limits with only a few tweaks of multiple variables.
Also, I was told by the sales rep that overclocking capabilities are available on all the i7 processors but that only the 920 would be most stable for overclocking. she could be wrong, what does she know, but I guess we'll have to wait until someone with a 720 or 820 gets their machine. -
Any dead/stuck pixels mandrake? Seems one guy already got a bright red stuck pixel in the center of his screen.

I don't think it would help. Makes me almost too scared to open that box tomorrow in fear of a dead pixel. I've gotten lucky w/the last 3-4 laptops though.

I have never had or seen a dead pixel.....
-
My old Thinkpad screen had a stuck red pixel off to the side. Took me a couple weeks to see it.
-
Now you just jinxed yourself. Mandrake, have you looked into the OC options further? Is it really only 5%? I'm still waiting on someone to do a throttling test (instructions in my thread). -
-
-
To check for dead pixels go to the link below:
http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php
follow the easy instructions, it is just several color screens...
Make sure you are in full screen (F11)
Please report if any stuck pixels found. -

Easy and effective (and I don't have any dead pixels!)
Thanks haha and +rep -
I guess the R2 should now be officially called "ENVY"--aka--"In your face, World ... and HP !"
-
@Scook,
Now how do we get our RBG LEDs, m8? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I dont know, have not tried that yet
But I am thinking complaints about auto dimming lol -
Haha everyone with an R1 complain about auto dimming so we get free R2s with RGB!!!
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I was only trying to get the screen...not a whole different machine
-
I'd say it was definitely fishy that, if it really was an intentional feature, its not mentioned anywhere in the specifications or even the details page that uses that flash animation to show you inside the computer when you click "memory" or "video." the description about the screen doesn't mention, "amazing auto-dimming feature for... well... we don't know... but we're sure its a nice feature everyone will like!" -
i can check the compatibilty and other things when i get mine tommorw
-
I haven't even taken mine apart yet. maybe I will after I check temps.
-
yeah temps idle & underload would be interesting especially for 920
-
-
Mine should be out for delivery in a few hours..can't wait!
-
Why did that $100 coupon come out the day after I ordered my system? I could have landed in the $1800 range. Lol. Maybe next time.
-
How does dell get away with charging UK customers 1,000$ more for a spec with no 2nd ATI GPU and no RGBLED?!?
-
I blame the queen..
-
-
Heh of course -
So far it shows up as a good over-clocker and benchmarking system. If it games just as good it won't matter to me if there is any throttling.
-
Well JohnBatDell basically said I wouldn't find any evidence of throttling in the R2. I'll take his challenge and see if it does or not later today. Even if it does, it's easy to fix.

F##$!!g DELL..... -
It probably has more to do with UK tariff charges than Dell purposely shafting UK customers.
-
Dell pays import taxes as well
It's your fault -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
The import costs are no way near that high
Even when you add average price of shipping and vat, thats still hundreds of dollars out!
When you can buy a machine in from Dell US, add VAT, customs, and shipping, and then you're still hundreds of pounds in pocket compared to the UK price and you know you're being shafted
