Congrats! We know you to be a REAL display critic, so is this the BEST LCD you've seen to date or what? More details please...

Yup its the exact same rough movement as the M15x, same touchpad. -
Dang.
Can anyone explain to me why it does that? It is the ONLY system I have ever seen that has that weird cursor movement.
So, compared to the RGB in the SXPS, how is it? Are blacks nice and inky? -
-
Well I'm a big fan of RGB LED displays but this one is very similar to the one found on the SXPS 16. It has the same exact red shift so whites appear reddish out of the box. It definitely needs some calibration to get the whites right. To give you guys an example, I took a picture of the screen next to my girlfriend's Studio XPS 16 1080p WLED. Keep in mind, the phone exaggerates the reddish appearance of the RGB LED but as I said, it is there:

Just want to give a shout-out to Joker who helped me along the path towards the m17x and how to get a better price. I really hope someone gets some gaming fps benchmarks up soon, just so I can justify the purchase.

Anyone got a spare vantage key?
PM me if you do plz. Also the RGB LED is the same one used in the M6500: SEC5443.
P.S. 16:10 FTW! I love it. -
-
Photos and benchmarks will come later. I'm going to mirror the drive over to the SSD soon. I'll do vantage real quick if I can get a key.

Joker
Just pay the $5 for the basic version. lol
I know residents get paid (not a whole lot but enogh). -
Oh I was just looking for a trial key, you have to pay for that too? Someone gave me one before but I lost it. I'll grab it for $5 if they got it. -

Ok one more bit of good news for those that don't want to do vbios flashing for overclocking. I suspected last night that the Rivatuner .cfg device id addition would work in enabling OC'ing and it does:
Instructions are simple:
1. Download RivaTuner
2. Download GPU-Z
3. Take the last 4 letters of your device id (e.g. 945A is mine)
4. Open up rivatuner's cfg file with notepad
5. Scroll to GPU_1002 and find RV770. Add in your device id + 'h' (e.g. 945Ah) and save the file. Back up the original cfg and replace it with the new one.
6. Click the Power User tab in RivaTuner
7. Find Rivatuner\System and find "ATiMultiGPUClockControl" and set it to 1. Next locate Rivatuner\Overclocking\ATi and find "EnableDriverLevel3DClockControl" and "EnableDriverLevelControl" and choose 1 for both.
8. Set the new clock for BOTH GPUs in RivaTuner.
9. Run gpuz to confirm the new clocks on each card. -
Question do you guys think i will need or use more then 4gb of ram for multimidia and gaming? i really do wanna max out this Rig as much as possible without being wastfull i am willing to spend up to 4200 on this any thoughts?
-
Keep the 4 gigs I game on 2gb
-
Wow I ordered less than 2 hours ago and status already changed to In Production, either AW/Dell is pulling a fast one on me, or could it really be here in 2 days.

It always takes about an hour to go into production, so don't feel too special.
LOL -
Joker
You try RBE to oc the 4870's? -
-
I edited the post. Rivatuner works great. -
Ordered mine 2/1 with an ETA of 2/5 then this morning it changed to 2/26 so expect the same thing....
-
is the 920 better then the 820 that i will notice it doing multimedia and gaming? im sorry for all the questions but im ordering in the next hour i really want the best rig possible
-
Yeah, Dell needs to update the ESD's of the R2.
-
Thanks -
... I have an 820 coming for mine even though i ordered with with the 720... Not in the mood to dump all that cash on the 920 but if you got it certainly spend it to have the best
....
-
Yeah, my order has been done on the 01/29, with an ETA 02/24...
so it seems MY ETA is a real one looking at yours being pushed back
I was hoping it would be comming faster
-
You will be getting it long before then so dont sweat it...
-
I don't know if everyone will have the same device id. I'll wait for one more person to confirm if they're the same or different before I put mine up. -
Hrmmm.
i would think all the 4870's are the same, but let's wait. I don't have my system yey anywayslol
-
Hey Joker, when was your order date ??? I have sensibly the same system, so it might give me an approx of my system...
-
I ordered it on 1/22. -
-
damn, 7 days before me...
-

Ditto, quad.

easiest solution is to call Dell and have them send a replacement.
-
Ok, just got mine maybe 45min. ago and am playing around a little bit before I wipe and reload a clean install. First of all as many have been saying, the RGB LED is amazing and easily the most important upgrade for this sytem. And like Mandrake, I too need to drop the brightness down a little bit. This is really night and day compared to the R1.
I didn't max much out over stock config, just an i7 720QM and a single ATI, but I think for my needs this will be a great system. I was using a 4.5 year old Inspiron 9300 after all, lol. I just ran 3DMark Vantage using the default Performance option and here is what I got in case people are wondering how a single card system performs:
-
and 720 gets in cpu test 1 around 1.4k?
am i right? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That 720qm cpu score was about the same as a stock QX9300
-
I haven't run any games yet. But furmark worked fine. -
As far as guys having issues with the video, it ran Crysis maxed out great for me (@1080p).
I used the drivers from Dell.
Also, mine did NOT have the 2nd hard drive cage and SATA connecter. Called Alienware, got one on the way. -
Joker or drake
Can you please run hwinfo32 and get the actual panel info (model) for me? -
My system is off and ready to be taken home. I can later if Joker doesn't respond.
