Looking to pull trigger on this system..was wondering about getting just the single 4870 and upgrading to the new 5 series when they have it.
Question is..will it work or will it require new board? Like the system, but want the 5870m. Willing to stick with 4870 single and buy and install new cards when AW releases them...thoughts.

The price is so cheap for the extra card. Made it hard for me to pass up.

You should be able to pop in 5870's when available.

Currently haggling with online sales to get better price then the 2049.00 I get now. That tax is a big biter..being military, not used to paying tax.
Currently looking at new Asus G73 also. Like the AW better, but really want the 5870m.

Update: Not get any better then the 2049.00 since I already had 10% plus the 100 coupon..so looking at 2049 shipped. Want to pull trigger, but really need to feel safe on upgrading to 5870 when they hit..

The problem is AAFES is not showing the discount, at least not as of this morning. I haggled with Dell and got them down enough to more than make up for the tax I would have saved through AAFES.

Yea..tried AAFES, but was higher then EPP discount (even with the tax added).
Still not sure, have till tomorrow before coupon runs out. Hard to justify spending 360 more for this then the ASUS G73 and get less as far as hardware (hd, 5870m, BD).

if you get dual 4870s you are not getting less on the hardware

they are more powerful, only thing you loose is DX11 (for the 1 game that has it)

this is very common of many rgb panels fyi.i deal with panels all the time and see a ton of them and MANY rgb ones have this red push. i always dial down the red just a bit and it makes things fine. otherwise i use a eye2 to do a simply calibration on it. most of the time this is plenty i usually do not have to whip out my big guns to calibrate them.

originally this was supposed to use a different panel from what i was told and what i saw. that is still a MUCH better panel then the last m17x had installed from dell i can say that. if you get me the exact model (or i may be able to get it) i can get exact specs on that panel.

tbh if i have to guess and if i am right the rgb from the m17x would need less calibration than the other panel. the studio one would end up being adjusted more to be in line than the sammy would. most people dont like fully calibrated screens due to the extra red and less blues. a lot of people who dont know better after showing them both would always pick the non calibrated one. hard to tell of course from a pick but looking at other things then the red on the white backround the other things look to be more in line on the m17x one. (i know what nbr looks like after calibration lol)

I hope in a very near future after most of us get our M17XR2, a thread on this can be started with right setting profiles etc...
I am a photography fan, and would like to get my monitor calibrated properly so I can get better printing results...

    Yeah, z.

I said even with that red push in the pic the whites are actually WHITE. Most WLED display run cool and too blue, when calibrated it kills brightness.

if i can get a system in hand i can do a full calibration with a spectro etc.. then i can post up some good guidelines. remeber not every panel even the same model will end up the same afterwards but this would be a great place to start. i know a few people waiting for one ill try to get my hands on one as soon as i can. but yeah this is as good as you will get in a notebook if you dont like this then you should stay with a desktop

oh yeah sorry for not being around so much ive been swamped. i was in the hospital with kidney stones then my wife's grandfather just today had a triple bypass and valve replacement etc its been a long couple weeks since ces..

No, Joker post the hardware id. SEC/5443 is pretty generic

I want him to run hwinfo32 to get the exact panel model so we can get some specs.

Sorry sleey0, this Intel SSD has been giving me problems. Whenever I try to install Windows 7, it doesn't detect the drive. I've tried it in my gf's studio xps 16 and now I'm trying it on the desktop. If it doesn't work on the desktop then either I was sold a dead drive or I have no clue of what I'm doing to get this thing going.

Sorry to hear about the SSD. Is it recognized in any of the other systems? If not, you'll need to RMA that thing.

Haha I tried but it never detected the drive so I couldn't clone it.

Yep it picks it up in the bios. The person on eBay advertised it as new but claimed it was opened to update the firmware for TRIM support. I'm going to try to update the firmware on it and if that fails, time for an eBay dispute.

    Joker,

Try this pop the SSD in the secondary slot.

Boot computer, when in desktop do this steps:

    1) Start , highlight Computer , right click and select manage

    2) When the box appear, click Disk Management

3)To the right , you will see your new SSD

4)Highlight and right click the new SSD and hit format. GO through the process by clicking next..next..and so forth.

    5) Once finished formatted , the OS will see the SSD drive.

    Give it a shot

Windows should actually still detect it. Whether it knows what to do with it is another story. I have VMFS LUNs at work and Windows has no issues detecting them.

I formatted it with NTFS and Windows installer still does not detect it. However in my desktop it was working fine as a secondary disk. I also ran the firmware update and it told me the drive had the latest firmware installed already. Is there a way I can force flash it anyway? Any other tips you guys have would be great.

Edit: Moo, I'll try it with your fat32 suggestion.

Going to check that out now, this is pretty frustrating though. Haven't been able to use the M17x at all yet because of this.

The iso starts automatically upon reboot and does its thing. If it was command line based I could try force flashing. I'll do some more digging I guess.

I tried that too and even emailed them the cart from Dell. The lady told me that they have to go by what is loaded on their pages as far as configuration and prices, which she said Dell controls. :(
