Forgive me if I am wrong, but didn't someone say there was a 6% discount for Australia? Might have been on this thread too. I'm not sure.

    thanks Wolverine.

I am looking to get what most people in this part of forum are getting.... M17X2. i7-920XM,duel video card, 256G SSD.... but that would come out to be more than 5000 AUD on standard Dell price (about 4800 USD).
So there is no way I am going to purchase without a coupon code of significance.

Hi all, looks like I've followed a few over from the G73JH thread. I'm REALLY tossing up between these two now.

I'm sure all the pros and cons have been dealt with and it's really a matter of preference now. Here is my "Bargain hunter"s dilemma

Asus is $1599USD in US and $2345AUD here. $749 diff.
M17x-R2 is $2819USD in US and $3118AUD here. $300 diff. (with crossfire)

So I'm actually paying a HUGE premium on getting the Asus to Australia because it's not a core market. It's actually more of a bargain for me to get the Alienware.

We have some strange customizations here. Starts off with i7-720, RGBLED 1200p screen. I will definitely miss the 4 RAM slots, and maybe DX11, but this guy is really looking the goods now.

Now, excuse me while I look through the last 50 or pages and see how much I just repeated.

Could you guys provide some screenshots from Everest with the chipset temps? Very interesting to compare with the Nvidia MCP79 which is rather hot.
Also interesting that you have a separate HS on the chipset but no pipes to the fan. I wonder how it affects the temps...

Update about my SSD woes: I contacted the seller and explained the situation to him. He claimed he had the drive in raid0 prior to selling it to me (something he never mentioned in his ad) and that he read about drives like this getting stuck in raid 0 mode. He apologized for doing that and asked me to enter the Intel raid menu to reset the drive. So I went into the menu and it wasn't listed as a raid disk. I let him know this and said I believed I was entitled to a refund. He said his policy was no refunds, that the drive was working fine when he sent it (obviously a lie) and that I could take it up with Intel. I filed a case against him with eBay but who knows how it will go.

So to get to the point, I switched the ssd to be a secondary drive and then set it in raid0 with the 500 gb drive. Windows 7 now recognizes both as a single 300 gig raid drive but obviously that's not what I had in mind when I bought this. Anyone know if there's a way to break the raid, put the ssd back as primary and get windows to pick up on it? And will Intel even provide warranty work for this?

ummm when my 256 SSD wouldn't detect it was exactly because it was just coming out of RAID 0

You need to format it decently...

Try Gparted live CD and then do a extensive format and that should break the raid ...

Does it have intel RAID or Nvidia RAID?

Well, I think joker said he did format it. If he was able to do that, there is no way the RAID volume is still on the disk.

i formatted mine and it still would not detect it.

Try a vista disc or a XP disc. If you can get a OS to load it will over write anything.

I had the same thing happen to me and its a pain in the butt trying to get it formatted correctly

Joker, If you used paypal you can dispute the purchase as item not as described. and explain to them how he never explained the drive was in a raid format. that is all you need to do, paypal will auto refund you your purchase out of his account. make sure you ship it back to him with tracking and a sig otherwise they will give him back your money after a few weeks for no proof of delivery. happened to me.

Dude you're a genius, it worked! SSD showed up in the Windows 7 installler after I set it as fat32. It had a warning that it needed to be formatted to NTFS so I did it and now it's installing Windows 7 ;) Can't believe I wasted my entire day on this...

Ha already had enough sleepless nights during basic sciences. So if you guys get the system with a single HD, just know that AW cheaps out and doesn't send the second HD cage or connector. I lucked out with having an old sata connector laying around that I modded to fit the 2nd drive but i had to use plastic air bubble packaging to fit the drive in so that it wouldn't move when the system shifts. Guess I'll have to call and order the proper parts.

BTW, you'll need to go out there and find a modified format for Fat32, since the normal formating don't allow formating of big HD, it can only format HD of like max 10gb or something... but if you google it, you'll find 1 easy. I had to do it to format my external 500g to plug it on my PS3 also.

Anybody find the 240W AC adapter for sale anywhere? I saw one or 2 on e-bay, but I am not sure they were the actual Dell one. Only one I can find on the Dell site shows 210W (It hink it's the same one my M6400 uses).

I'm curious about something. Anyone wonder if the 260/280 nVidia cards would work in the R2? I know dell doesn't offer them...but I'm wondering if they might still work. I know the BIOS might need to be changed, but it would be interesting to see if they ran stutter free in the R2. Just thinking though the keyboard since I'm at work and it seems everyone is sleeping...stupid time differance.

I think the cards themselves work, but SLI is not supported by new Intel chipsets because of disputes between Intel and Nvidia.

Hey guys, Congrats on the new system! I was trying to pour through the pages, but was unable to find if anyone has started overclocking the mobile4870's and core i7's yet. I am waiting for my G73 with the 5870 to come in and would like to find out if the Catalyst Control center functions for over-clocking like it does on my desktop Ati cards. Can't wait to crank this card up! If there is already an over-clocking page that I have missed for this new system, could you please point me to it?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Really need to find out if the 5870 Asus is using will be a standard MXM 3 card or not. If it's a proprietary card as they have used in the past it will more than likely not be the same procedure as with the 4870s.

BTW, you cannot use CCC to OC the 4870s in the M17x.
