wow alienware rep's trolling forums!![]()
-
Well, I have to say that I'm glad they are taking this seriously and providing updates in the forum. Also, I think it's great of Joker to "lend" them his machine so they can sort it out.
-
for those of you that had their m17x via next buisness day, was it shipped by fedex? if so was it fedex priority air or fedex priority standard. for the next day deliviery. Its very important that i know.
-
while your at it, why don't you look into M15x throttling too.
-
oi, this is a m17x thread
-
i know, but it doesn't hurt to ask, so purdyyy pleaseeee

Hats off to the pioneers that are bringing this to AWs attention. I am ready and willing to order once this is sorted out. -
I was upgraded to NBD. For some reason, FedEx has it as "FedEx Home Delivery," meaning I'll get Saturday delivery, instead of having to wait til Monday. I don't know what others have been seeing.
-
@Dracomagus and Mandrake,
please PM me with your service tags if you don't mind.
My recommendation for now is if you are getting this flickering, disable xfire and play the games you want this weekend. A single card config will still own most of the game titles out there. We have one system on it's way back to the lab in Miami for troubleshooting. We should have an update well within your 21 day refund period. -
I'm uploading a longer video to better show my crysis problem.
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDJtbxkIasY
go full screen to beter see it. -
wow that does seem like quite a big problem, i have no idea how they missed this!
i thought i remember seeing a person at AW playing crysis on the r1 why not test it on the r2??? basicly its a completely new machine -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
That looks more like a driver problem. -
im about to get a new m17x r2, i see that stuttering its an issue on the r2, its there an i7 cpu that i should be warned about before choosing it?
-
Hey Ferrari, I don't know about the m17x exactly, but the m15x I am sitting on came via Fedex...
-
*touch*
-
920 systems are the ones with the problem... so far as we know.
-
just get a 720-820 and upgrade it later!
-
But from what the alienware rep is saying seems the machines getting the 920 installed, he keeps mentioning the xfire bridge isnt seated properly might be a coincedence happining to the ones on that assembly line?
-
I think thats my problem, and everyone else might have another
.
-
im no expert hehe
-
That's interesting... the thread I saw on ATi's site about flickering with crossfire mentioned reseating the cards and actually removing one of the bridge links...
-
well brandon had a point in mandrakes and jokers videos the problem is completly diffrent. Branden gets objects that flicker were at mandrake and joker get a offset ghost screen that flickers overlapping the main.
-
but i would still relat that to xfire issue like one card slugs it maybe power issue causing it to drag "flicker" the screen
-
Personally I am betting on power being the issue.... this sounds like some pre-sales engineer designed the system, not a bench tester

Nagshead mentions a fix should come well within our 21 day refund policy? Does that mean a user-end fix that can be done on existing machines or that new R2's will ship without the problem that are ordered as replacements? I ask because I was in the process of returning mine, and I may just wait if this can be fixed on the user end. If you can, please answer this. Would make my life much easier right now.
This issue is frustrating, but I'm glad to see AW reaching out to the forums. Very reassuring to me, the consumer. -
Nag said just run it in single card format for this weekend maybe next but he said they would have a fix. I would just keep it for now play ur games or whatever and relax stress later when u get close to that 21 day mark. Returning a machine probably takes a big toll on a persons soul
-
My system is being taken to AW labs tomorrow. They will look into it and see if they can issue a fix quickly. You have 21 days to return your system so you should hold on to it for a little longer to see if AW issues a fix very soon. If not, then you can return it and wait on a more encompassing fix should it be required. -
watch some movies on it enjoy that screen a little longer

so will i stay away form the 920xm even tough i will not have to pay anything for it since i'm getting an replacement of my choice?
-
Wait and see if a fix comes soon.
-
well if your getting it for free i think thats a no brainer.. No matter what dell is going to honor the sale weither you return it because they cant fix the problem or they just replace your system again no matter what its still a win for you a little bit of heart ache sure but think of the long run.
-
Listen to yourself, man, anything you want?? Of course you go for the 920.... worst case you ditch the 4870 xfire setup and go with a single card at some point, like a 5870!
-
Go for the top, you still have a warranty and the problem is temporary.
-
well i really like the 920 but...... is the flickering and stuttering bad enough? im pretty sure dell its going to fit it at some point... like say 5 months like the previous latency and stuttering issue with the R1,
lol
-
all you have to do is turn x fire off for the time being and it will work perfectly. then just wait for alienware to come out for a patch and bam back to xfire and a man eating system.
-
But if your that worryied about it get the lowest cpu because by the time it gets to your house im confident alienware will have solved it and youll just have to order the 920 retail..
-
You do not give up the top parts just because Dell has issues with them. They will be fixed or replaced. After all you paid for it.
Worst case - refund/sell. Don't hesitate. -
tanks guys i think i can get along with a single 4870
-
so your getting duel ati's and alright with running it single ntil a patch cuz that sounds like your going to just order one i wouldnt recommend that XFIRE ALL THE WAY espcially if its free!!!1
-
You guys sound pretty confident. But I wouldn't get my hopes up. We had a Dell rep in here for the M15x throttling and he skipped town as fast as we could say "real world" throttling. I hope they do the right thing, but I believe they will only do the right thing if its a cheap/easy fix. The M17x R1 still has no fixes for several of its well document issues. It's all about money, and I wouldn't be surprised if the fix was removing the 920xm from the website. My 920xm based M15x is a throttling SOB, so at least we have that in common, even if the symptons are a bit different, but I hope that something is done to remedy the entire situation. How many want some action on the new, all powerful, netbook throttling?
-
or course im getting xfire since i had it on my r1
-
way to bring the mode down dude..
have a little faith?
-
The point is - when you already paid for the best specs and get your R1 replaced with the R2 system equally spec'ed , will you refuse the second GPU or take a weaker CPU?
-
just a little side track from the throttling issues,
how long exactly does the r2 last on battery on normal use like web surfing/word processing?
and is it possible to play anything on battery? or do the gfx cards downclock and get stuck at 2d clocks? -
I had posted this before in a thread but didn't get any reply so here it is again. Was the M17x R1 dual CCFL??
-
taken from the owners manual i found for the R1
Display
Type
(24-bit color, Dual bulb CCFL
panels)
17.0 inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900)
17.0 inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) TrueLife -
It is dual ccfl, but has brightness levels of a single lamp screen.
So it is meaningless. -
I have another R2 problem I thought I would mention while we are discussing new issues. I find it odd that every time I do a reset it actually shuts down and turns itself back on. The REAL issue is after making a bios change 50% of the time it doesn't start back up cleanly. Screen stays black and the scroll lock light starts blinking. This is normally an indication of a hardware issue but it does not happen every time. Let me know if anyone else is having this problem. I'm going to put my system through the Dell diagnostics today.
-
I had that problem with my first R1.
I was constantly looking at my magic 8 ball and flipping coins once I started my system to see if it would boot into the os, or was I going to have to restart and try again?
