With the advance cooling system of the M17x I suspect OC'ing will be just fine. I'm going with black again for my third purchase of the M17x now.

    :D Awesome!

Expensive, but a heck of a machine to play with. I did the math, and to get the config I want of the R2 is only going to be a few hundred more then what I payed for the M17X R1. Not too shabby. Gotta try and squeeze somone for money on ebay for the QX9300 lol, maybe make back what I payed for it. Who knows, or be generous and give a good deal to somone here.

I've gone with nebula red btw :)

And I just read the whole m17x-R2 manual lol. Nothing really about overclocking, other than it saying you are able to do it.

On the Dell website it has an estimated ship date, is this accurate or does it usually ship a lot earlier? I don't want to wait until the 4th of feb! :'(

If it's like previous orders, and no delays are expected, I would say 2 weeks from order to door would not be unreasonable.

The current benchmarking scores of the M17x are going to be obliterated by this new animal.

I've got some questions on this computer

    1. Is the RGB LED much better than the Dual CCFL?($145 USD difference, is it worth it?)

    2. On the Swedish Dell-site, all harddrive options comes with RAID 1, is it easy to make them RAID 0?

Is it possible to upgrade GPU to DX11 (when DX11 GPU's are available) yourself on this notebook? Or are you stuck with Dual HD 4870's?

I know you can upgrade Memory; but I'm not sure if you can swap out & replace 4870's with 5870's.

More than likely a single card will cost more than $300. If you are getting 5870s then definitely.

So the new 5870s will be running in crossfireX? How do you activate crossfireX in games? Does it do it automatically?

Also will it be easy to switch gpus?

Well, the thing is that I absolutely love the M17x Refresh ... with the Core i7, LED and all. But I was really wanting to pick up a DX11 Notebook; and there are some on the way (Acer, ASUS).

If I can replace my Dual HD 4870's with Dual HD 5870 a few months down the line by simply purchasing the 5870's and physically swapping my cards out without sending the notebook to Dell, I will get this notebook now. I don't really care about any further Dell Support after that point.

The other option is to wait a couple of months; if indeed it's possible (rumored) that the M17x will get dual DX11 Cards.

    Any Suggestions?

Hi guys , first post for me here ^^

For the ppl living in europe there are some issues with the configuration page :

    No Raid 0
    No SSD
    No Dual Ati 4870

However i just ordered mine by phone and the operator at dell was able to sell me 1T Raid 0 HDD and the dual ATI
(when he chose dual ATI instead of single , the notebook became even cheaper ... u guessed right , i didn t complain
    ;)

You would but the key is Dell support because they need to build support for the new cards into the bios of the system. No guarantees until they announce that. Look for it in future bios updates.

So you're saying when M17x is available with HD 5870 CrossfireX, I can simply send my Alienware notebook to them and they'll upgrade my 4870 CrossfireX -> 5870 CrossfireX?

If they update BIOS with 5870 CrossfireX support ... and I update my BIOS ... then can I upgrade the Cards myself at home instead of sending them the notebook?
