It's almost like they were on NBR and reading our benchmarking thread.![]()

Hahaha
. Pftt... yeah right!
-
lol yeah hmmmm
I'll be joining in on the fun soon as I can scrap together some cash for the 920 after it's been confirmed that the OC'ing works fine.
-
With the advance cooling system of the M17x I suspect OC'ing will be just fine. I'm going with black again for my third purchase of the M17x now.
-
I've got some interesting information.
Not at all certain this is correct, but the guy was quite confident it was.

EDIT: probably wrong, he found this aswell: "Video: 1 GB GDDR3 dedicated"
EDIT#2 150W brick is standard, 240W will only ship with 920XM and/or Dual 4870 -
I'm on the phone right now also. EPP is giving me some troubles.
-
Core voltage adjustments will be +75mV and +150mV
DDR3 voltage will be adjustable between 1,5-1,7V in 0,1 steps
CPU Speed adjustable up to +15% in 1% steps. -
Then we need a way to push it further.
-
Awesome!
Expensive, but a heck of a machine to play with. I did the math, and to get the config I want of the R2 is only going to be a few hundred more then what I payed for the M17X R1. Not too shabby. Gotta try and squeeze somone for money on ebay for the QX9300 lol, maybe make back what I payed for it. Who knows, or be generous and give a good deal to somone here. -
They're giving me problems with the blu-ray player also, bah. Ben needs to hook me up.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i order one i7 920qx from extremeprocessor on ebay with 8% cashback $635 after the bing
-
Ok, order through EPP is in. Now to get new ram.
-
I've gone with nebula red btw
And I just read the whole m17x-R2 manual lol. Nothing really about overclocking, other than it saying you are able to do it.
On the Dell website it has an estimated ship date, is this accurate or does it usually ship a lot earlier? I don't want to wait until the 4th of feb! :'( -
They are normally very conservative estimates but since is a new release it may take that long.
-
If it's like previous orders, and no delays are expected, I would say 2 weeks from order to door would not be unreasonable.
The current benchmarking scores of the M17x are going to be obliterated by this new animal.
-
It is quite expensive though, I don't think too many people will be ordering it?
-
Dell DPA makes it easy for people to <strike>go bankrupt</strike> order one.
-
Oh lol - true
-
NYC Drifter Notebook Evangelist
Too bad we can't do a group buy. This thing is approaching 5k with tax -
Don't forget about THIS.
-
Hmmm. That is true. Why didn't you guys put up a group buy? I'd say 5 at least are maxing out their configs.
-
Outragious I wanted to order the new m17x with the crossfire setup and I can't they just offer 1 4870 setup I just hope that's the sign for the lack of 4870 and the beguining of 5870 cross X
-
I've got some questions on this computer
1. Is the RGB LED much better than the Dual CCFL?($145 USD difference, is it worth it?)
2. On the Swedish Dell-site, all harddrive options comes with RAID 1, is it easy to make them RAID 0? -
Yes and yes, but even better to de-RAID them and exchange one for a SSD.
-
Is it possible to upgrade GPU to DX11 (when DX11 GPU's are available) yourself on this notebook? Or are you stuck with Dual HD 4870's?
I know you can upgrade Memory; but I'm not sure if you can swap out & replace 4870's with 5870's. -
Physically you can swap them but it will be up to Dell to provide support for them. Rumor is they will in March.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but if I only can order mine with one graphic card than when I send it back to put the new ones and in crossfire I'll have to pay even more won't I?
-
Mandrake,
Where you able to get the 10% off with the epp? I'm on the phone now with them. Peace.
pants -
More than likely a single card will cost more than $300. If you are getting 5870s then definitely.
-
yes
/10 char -
any incentive to use dell preferred card? Did u get free shipping?
-
So the new 5870s will be running in crossfireX? How do you activate crossfireX in games? Does it do it automatically?
Also will it be easy to switch gpus? -
Well, the thing is that I absolutely love the M17x Refresh ... with the Core i7, LED and all. But I was really wanting to pick up a DX11 Notebook; and there are some on the way (Acer, ASUS).
If I can replace my Dual HD 4870's with Dual HD 5870 a few months down the line by simply purchasing the 5870's and physically swapping my cards out without sending the notebook to Dell, I will get this notebook now. I don't really care about any further Dell Support after that point.
The other option is to wait a couple of months; if indeed it's possible (rumored) that the M17x will get dual DX11 Cards.
Any Suggestions? -
Yes, free standard shipping. I actually forgot to ask about the DPA discount lol. I guess I was too excited.
-
Hi guys , first post for me here ^^
For the ppl living in europe there are some issues with the configuration page :
No Raid 0
No SSD
No Dual Ati 4870
However i just ordered mine by phone and the operator at dell was able to sell me 1T Raid 0 HDD and the dual ATI
(when he chose dual ATI instead of single , the notebook became even cheaper ... u guessed right , i didn t complain
-
If DX11 is that important to you get the Asus or wait for someone to release them in Crossfire.
-
Now that's a good deal Effax congrats
-
So the new 5870s will be running in crossfireX? How do you activate crossfireX in games? Does it do it automatically?
Also will it be easy to switch gpus?
Oops accidently refreshed and posted it again >_< -
Yes they will running in crossfireX if those games support crossfire than you can configure it manualy but I pretty sure they will be activated in games
-
So even If I could swap out the 4870's with 5870's later down the road; I won't get CrossfireX?
-
Yes you'll get but just wait, when they comme to aw just send it and make them change it for you
-
You would but the key is Dell support because they need to build support for the new cards into the bios of the system. No guarantees until they announce that. Look for it in future bios updates.
-
Don't know if someone is trying to tell me something about this M17x. I've been disconnected from Dell twice and having trouble getting my epp 10% off.
-
So you're saying when M17x is available with HD 5870 CrossfireX, I can simply send my Alienware notebook to them and they'll upgrade my 4870 CrossfireX -> 5870 CrossfireX?
If they update BIOS with 5870 CrossfireX support ... and I update my BIOS ... then can I upgrade the Cards myself at home instead of sending them the notebook? -
Anybody know of a good sound system for the m17x?
EDIT: and will a cooling system be needed? -
For cooling go with this cooler. Best one out there for the M17X R1/R2. Really the M17X has a great cooling system and a cooler is not needed unless your benching. Then any assistance helps
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
who is going to be the first official owner of the m17x refresh joker or ben ?
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
Normally it's possible if the card is supported on your system, but with a nice amount of cash
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
Can someone give me a short answer for this question:
How is the 5870 vs 4870?
How is the 4870 vs 260M? -
I second that ... would like that info.
