I mean, the netbooks with the same ULV processors as these. I currently use a C2D 2.0 ghz - and am a little weary of being disappointed by the performance of this, for everyday tasks - maybe I am just being paranoid.

If it has this processor it is not a netbook
my dad has an inspiron mini 11z and it runs windows 7 fine with only 2 gb of ram and a su4100 -
Ok, so I'm ready to buy my m11x, I have the 10% of EPP discount and the $50 off newsletter coupon, but I cannot find the $100 off systems $1000 or more coupon. Could someone please help!
Thx! -

It will be fine - my Acer Ferrari one has a slower processor (Athlon X2 @ 1.3Ghz) and it flies through most tasks on Windows 7. -
There ya goMake sure to get 3% MORE off if you use the Dell Preferred Account.

hmm... now my status is "work in progress" Never seen that before?

From that review I would infer that if you have any OTHER AT&T smart phone with unlimited Data plan you should be able to use the SIM in your phone to get access.
Verizon however you will have to choose one of their data plans:
250MB a month 29.99
5GB "unlimited" Data plan 59.99 a month
Ive not been able to determine if you will need a contract commitment, but given your paying full price for the Gobi I would doubt it. -
Well I cancelled my order with the su4100 and ordered one with a su7300, Sales Rep said the SU4100 is not overclockable while the SU7300 is. I figure it's worth $90 not to beat myself over the head in the end if it turns out not to be overclockable.
-
I guess we'll see when people who opted for the SU4100 get their machines. : / -
I actually spoke to a Senior Rep yesterday while trying to get bluetooth and she said they brought the m11x around and they got to hold it / play with it. So some of the reps might have played with it and seen if it's actually OCable or not but others could be BSing. -
It also makes the pricing seem a little more appropriate. $100 extra for 5% is stupid, but with 1 touch overclocking suddenly its $100 more for 25%, and that is rather more appealing. -
Yeah, not sure what to believe but in the end I felt like it was safer to go with the SU7300. If the su4100 turns out to be overclockable, then oh well.... but if it doesn't it's going to drive me nuts.
-
Another Dell rep has also said su4100 is not over clockable so take that however you want, I'm going for the sure route.
Also don't forget about resale value as mentioned before. Cannot explain how big a differrence in name of the c2d is over a pentium chip. Even on a notebook site people are questioning the CPU here. Even mentions of it being a single core which to me I also associate a pentium with sorry to say. I'm a big eBay seller so yeah if you care hehe -
-
anyone know about it being 12 months interest free for dpa accts?
-
thats the way I've started looking at it too. Egg's IS RIGHT that there is no difference between CPUs other then 1mb cache and VT.... In fact, historically less onboard cache has been easier to OC then chips with more.
BUT on the off-chance that dell turned off the OC switch in the BIOS for the SU4100, I'm going with the SU7300. If they both OC, then at least the 7300 with be a 1-5% faster OC then the 4100lol
FINALLLLLYY got my RMA numbers today from dell, and their picking up my useless S-XPS systems. Ordering these systems tonight on my DPA. -
-
I wonder if OCing it is actually upping the voltage at all on the CPU or other components. If it isn't, we might literally be looking at free speed that doesn't even lower our battery life.
-
They also noted that it was basically free speed, as there is negligible heat and no other down side. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
it will almost certainly be the same voltage....45nm core 2 duo parts have a ton of headroom at stock voltage

Just ordered my first AW! Got the su7300, 320gb HDD, and 4 GB ram. Used DPA and got great discounts. Thanks NBR.
How long does it take for the order to go through the system. I ordered about 10 minutes ago and I haven't received an email or confirmation yet. -
Damn it! I've spec'd this book out 3 times already and every time I go to checkout(even with $250 in discounts) I think "My wife is going to kill me"
I must know the following:
Whats Dell's return process? 30 days full refund?
Will it play 1080 smoothly on a different monitor?
What am I passing on by not waiting another 4 months? ie better cpu, price, ect.
Why should I return to AW/Dell when my old M9700 died literally at 15 mo? I swore I would never return... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
if a notebook dies out of warranty that is not a good reason to ditch a brand.....
you will have 21 days from the day it ships to return for full refund
it did play 1080p fine using the 335m
there is speculation that around october there will be a refresh with newer cpu's but any performance gain is questionable at this point -
Yes it will play 1080P smooth, with like 15% Cpu, so in other words no problem.
It is highly unlikely there will be any changes in 4 months, in fact current sources say 6-8 months minimum for a refresh. Also, with all the current discounts in reality you might end up paying more in 4 months.
I can't answer the last questions, sounds like bad luck, maybe spend a bit more and grab the extended warranty or one from Square Trade or something if you are worried. I guess the other answer is because Alienware is the only place to get anything like the M11X. -
Here's what I suggest. Spec out the base model and call it good. Buying a new hdd and ram will be easier explining fo the wifey
maybe up the CPU but yeah it'll be so cheap then at base plus discounts
-
im guessing battery life is horrible as well?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
shouldnt be, there are low voltage core i parts as well
-
-
Good luck ! -
Thanks guys for the details. I appreciate them. If I buy I'm definitely adding an additional 3 year warranty. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
you have upto the end of the default one year warranty to add on the rest
it can be a good way of spreading the cost around -

I have a blackberry with verizon, I have to pay $30 a month on top of $30 already to tether (but we get the base data plan cheaper
)
I am going to see if I can just put my blackberry sim card into the M11x directly -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
you may be able to apply epp to the warranty upgrade down the road - is at least worth a try
-
Guys will this computer play the age of empire games pretty good?!? Those are one of my favorite pc games
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
this laptop will play any game ok. playing them great is what most people are worried about - meaning 30+ fps with all settings maxed out

Unless using the sim card from the BB costs money, then I wont use it anyway. -
-
i have ordered one of these computers and it cost me £900
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the blackberry's use sim cards
trust me, I am looking at it
I also have a storm -
Yeah, some of Verizon's "world" phone have the Euro bands, so they also have a SIM card...

it is just connecting you computer to the internet through the cell modem in your cell phone
it is supported by all carriers but some charge you for the priviledge (which I personally think is BS if you are already paying for a data plan) -
I still haven't actually found out whether I'll be charged for using my iPhone as a modem via tethering... :S I guess I'll go do that now haha.

For prospective UK student buyers, you can use the link below to navigate through the Dell UK website to obtain a 6% discount on your M11x. It's not much, but it's something!
http://www.dell-sci.co.uk/sci/index.html -
ATT will eventually get you for it.
And don't look at the bill cuz you might have a heart attack -
-
Delivery date of 3/8. I think I'm gonna drive all of my family and friends nuts with my impatience for this thing!
