The timing actually couldn't be worse. People are in transition between DDR2 and DDR3 then supply gets cut off thanks to the Chinese Lunar New Year. Demand is going up and supply is jarred to a complete halt for two weeks at best. RAM prices are expected to go up up up until June at the earliest. Heard that from a market analyst working with a distributor talking to my boss. But then again, we can always hope for the best. Right? Right?

Looking at the SD thread comment times I ordered when only about 5 pages had gone by I think. I also ordered before the even bigger discounts came and lots, especially at slickdeals, canceled and reordered. I also got the su4100 which loads of people either wanted the c2d more or thought the su4100 didnt overclock and reordered because of that, so i even could have an advantage in the su4100 order rarity department. I wasn't one of the ones who reordered, which amounted to purposely choosing to pay $50-100 more when it would've been easy to reorder and cancel, so I'm probably still way ahead of lots of other people :)

Who knows the way it will finally end up but it would be awesome if I was one of the first to get my hands on it :-D

Considering the XPS 16 with an i7 throttles itself down to 500-900MHz while gaming ON AC POWER this m11x will actually be faster :D :D :D :D

Believe me, I know. Tomorrow UPS is picking up my RMA XPS 13 and 16s due to problems and sending them back to Dell. Feels good man.

Thanks for this info. And it was you that was talking about the samsung SSDs =) k. According to Tom's Hardware the Samsung 256GB supports NCQ (not sure what this is??) so I'll leave it in AHCI. I have a lot more to learn about SSDs.

I did not care to go intel because for the size the cost was way too much and I got this drive for a great price on my build, since my subtotal was only $1065, and final shipped total was only $1142 USD after tax on my build in sig + BT and SSD -- many people are getting 250/320GB 7200RPM for this price. Slower than Intel I know, but I'm sure I'll still be crushing any mechanical drives out there and plus I want the extra space in this certain SSD. A 160 or 128GB can't cut it for me considering this will be is main computer now. I already need an external HDD just in case =)

100% true go look at the XPS forums theres hundres of pages on the issue and dell is ignoring it. The XPS 1645 i7, and the 1647 i7 models both throttle hard.

Nice, 777.10 with the SU4100, 4GB, 250GB HDD... and I still have the $50 and 3% DPA to take off.

Guys if you just make a call and tell them that you want to use both coupons they will give it to you. The $50 subscription coupon literally says "An extra $50 off" and no where does it mention it cannot be combined. Same goes with the other $50 and $100 coupons. Just call and whine :) Show em my screen shot if you have to.

I know this thing is nowheres close to the M17X, but i was jw if it can handle simple Photoshop tasks, maybe even a bit of AutoCAD or Sketchup. It aint going to primarily be used for this, I just need to know if it can moderatly handle it in a pinch.
    Thanks so much!

Yeah, it is the sweetest beast I have ever owned.. BUT it weighs a TON so while it can be moved from place to place, I don't recommend it. I don't wan to risk dropping it at an airport while taking if out of the bag. Friend of mind dropped a 17 MBP. Bent the heck out of it. Hence the need for the m11x. Ultra portible and I can game on it. Best of both worlds. :D

All these 11.6" screens are bad, haven't seen a good one yet. Also for everyone wondering my agent told me the reason it takes so long to ship is due to the personalized nameplate having to be engraved. So I guess if you didn't get the nameplate theres a chance you might get it early. She said normal turnaround for Alienware is 20-30 days though so wouldn't expect it much before that.

The real reason is that these laptops don't even come out until March 1st. These are pre-orders. Most of the review websites are reporting "Shipping on March 1st".

Here's the only thing i want to know about it.
    Sceen:

    black level :
    max brightness:
    contrast ratio:
    Viewing angles:

How these websites can do such thorough reviews and completely ignore the screen quality is beyond retarded and extrememly frustrating to me. "It's nice and bright", wow thanks, the sun is bright too, nice analysis.

Probably cause any "real" gaming is expected to be done on an ext monitor? But then again its not yet out long enough for enough full reviews on the device.

Most gaming should be done at a desk anyway, so the ext drive shouldn't be an issue. Just use steam like some people suggested earlier.

So nuke you're argument that the screen on a notebook computer can be crappy is because one would rarely use it?

Why buy a notebook at all then when you could have a desktop with twice the power for less money?

Sorry your argument fails. This is a portable gaming computer, and i think a fair amount of people intend to use it as just that, not a desktop replacement as you suggest.

UK release date appears to be sooner than march, i ordered mine on tuesday, and my dell sales rep tells me the ETA is 10 working days, even having pressed him on this point.

Kinda, but then those games aren't exactly playable without a mouse which means gaming at a desk regardless. Some people recommend using No-CD cracks and ISOs but to stick on the safe side, just use steam from now on.

The way around this is to use an imaging tool to convert your cd/dvd game to an image file on your harddrive, then use Daemon tools to create a virtual DVD drive out of the image file.

Just wanted to offer a suggestion as to why the reviewers didn't think it was a main point to include in their reviews. Sorry if it didn't come out right and no offence intended. I have ordered this little monster too so it would be hypocritical to be striking it down after I've been vouching for it blindly for the past two threads this thing has had so far on the forum.

Yeah, this is frustrating, and forces people to no-cd crack their own legally purchased games. As usual the entertainment industry loves to punish their customers with copyright hoops to jump through, while the thieves have none of these inconvieniences.

I surely hope that we get it sooner, but I read earlier in this thread that the same thing happened with x17m R2 machines. The UK was getting an earlier date, then they changed the UK dates to match the US dates.
